delfick, I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. But i have found that having compiz-tray-icon in my startup session (which is part if gnome-compiz-manager) was causing that line to be added to .gnomerc. Having one control adjust one volume and the fn keys and built in vol keys another is very confusing as to why sound is coming out if you have muted or turned it down. Now a release candidate of edgy has been released, shouldn't this have been fixed, as it would be quite a pain in the arse if their 3d accel didn't work. This is happening for me not just when playing video, but if I just leave my laptop. If have the screensaver to come on after 5 minutes, which it does, then at about 10 minutes, the screen just turns off.
