[Bug 361384] Re: No wireless-n support in Linux with Intel 4965AGN

2010-03-20 Thread cdahmedeh
Hello,

It seems that the issue has been fixed, connection manager shows speed
'unknown', which probably means it's more than 54Mbps. Wireless also
seems to be a bit faster.

Means that the issue has been fixed in kernel 2.6.32 onwards. Thanks

[Bug 486315] Re: OpenOffice.org Font LCD Filter not respected in Xubuntu

2010-03-20 Thread cdahmedeh
Hello, sorry for the delays, busy schedule. The issue is different from
the one given in the xfce bug report. It happens in other distros with
Xfce aswell. It might an openoffice issue. I just think you should
create a new package called openoffice-xfce or something, which just
runs the command. It's a quick and easy fix !

[Bug 512561] Re: [MASTER] Firefox-3.6 doesn't respect font settings

2010-02-14 Thread cdahmedeh
It's a bug related to the lcdfilter setting. Some discussion, and probably a
way to solve the problem :
http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8788243 . I also attached a
screenshot to show the issue :
-Notice how the menu of VirtualBox and the menu of nautilus looks nice and
smooth.
-The Firefox menu text looks thiner, and causes eye strain. It feels like
someone compressed the text with jpeg.

[Bug 486315] [NEW] OpenOffice.org Font LCD Filter not respected in Xubuntu

2009-11-21 Thread cdahmedeh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hello,

The Sub-Pixel smoothed fonts looks different in OpenOffice.org compared
to other applications. The fonts look very nice and smooth in GTK+ apps
but not in OpenOffice.org Fonts do look anti-aliased, but it appears
more blocky for some reason. In order to fix the problem, running the
command :

echo "Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault" >> ~/.Xresources

I think that the fix should be implemented in future versions for a
better user experience. Also, if you install Ubuntu instead of Xubuntu,
run the OpenOffice.org application, you will not get any font smoothing
problems in Xfce installed via xfce4-desktop package. The problem
happens when the xubuntu-gdm-theme is installed, which seems to run set-
gconf-defaults and causes the problems in font smoothing. Removing the
package doesn't fix the problem.

Also, the following doesn't fix the problem :
Removing home folder configuration for xfce, gconf and openoffice.

Finally, I think the reason why this problem isn't in gnome is because
it is taken care of via gnome-settings-daemon, something not available
in xfce. Ideally, OpenOffice.org should be configured to respect the
lcdfilter option, and I don't know how to that properly. But the fix I
mentioned seems to be a good workaround, maybe add a script to do that
in the package xubuntu-default-settings ?

[Bug 447563] [NEW] Compiz Fusion has tearing even with Sync to VBlank with nVidia cards

2009-10-09 Thread cdahmedeh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Hello,

I have noticed that with nVidia drivers, there is slight tearing when
viewing video and 3d applications. It is very annoying and ruins the
desktop experience for me. Another way to verifiy the tearing is to zoom
in with the "Enhanced Desktop Zoom" (super + scroll) and move around the
mouse. The screen will also tear. In order to fix this, there is a patch
that is being discussed in this mailing list : http://www.mail-
archive.com/com...@lists.freedesktop.org/msg02986.html. Apparently this
option has been added to 0.8.3 according to this bug report :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/422384 . However,
in the Ubuntu Karmic Koala, which has Compiz 0.8.3, these options are
not available. If you run for example "compiz --replace --always-swap",
we get an error message telling us that "--always-swap" is a non-
existing option. This would be a nice fix for Compiz in Ubuntu, and it
would make it more professional looking.

Good luck with the fixes.

[Bug 361384] [NEW] No wireless-n support in Linux with Intel 4965AGN

2009-04-14 Thread cdahmedeh
Public bug reported:

I currently own a Dell XPS m1530 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.. It
also includes a Intel Pro Wireless 4965AGN wireless network card. I have
noticed that I cannot connect to a network in draft-n mode. Instead, it
will connect at g speeds and I will only get g connectivity. That means
speeds does not pass 54 Mpbs nor I do get the enhanced n ranges. In
order to check that n is not working, I set my router to n-only mode
rather than mixed mode (a, b, g and n) and Ubuntu could not connect to
that network. Setting it back to g-mode or mixed mode allowed to connect
to it, but only at g speeds. I have heard that the wireless driver
iwlagn is not compiled with n support. I don't know how to confirm that.
In fact, all the Linux distributions I have used did not support n-mode
such as Debian, Arch Linux, and older versions of Ubuntu (Intrepid and
Hardy). The backported modules did not solve the problem either.
Finally, in order to rule out a hardware problem, booting up into
Windows XP or Windows Vista, I was able to connect at n-speed (that
means 130Mpbs+) and got much better range.

Specifications :
Dell XPS m1530
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
Intel Pro Wireless 4965 AGN
Ubuntu Jaunty running Linux 2.6.28-11-generic

If I need to post the output of any logs or command line, please notify
me to do so.
