[Bug 759349] Re: VNC slow refresh with unity (compiz)
Omer, i think your observation is right. Though i have 11.10 now, so i logged into Ubuntu 2D and it does now show any refresh issue (but i really dont know if the setting fix screen updates ... is automatically applied) though i dont see any lag too, so its obviously better. Now when i log into Ubuntu or GNOME - I am also having gnome-shell . Both should refresh issues .. so i dont know if this can be attributed to compiz, because gnome-shell would be mutter based i guess. But regardless i think that is a good observation, atleast i now see the quality of work on VNC improve. I will try with this setting from home to office , so it goes via VPN, i would then really know the lag, for now it sounds promising. so how can we help to get more information / data to help fix/address this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/759349 Title: VNC slow refresh with unity (compiz) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/759349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Dell studio 1555 :( Not OK I took lucid proposed but i didnt get linux images. i had to manually remove myself from suspend blacklist by editing /usr/lib/pm- utils/sleep.d/00suspend-blacklist . Which linux version has it been fixed ? I will update it from synaptic manually. -- [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 526354] Re: [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume
interestingly hibernate doesnt work for me, it always leads to a corrupted blank white screen. Now with no suspend - no way that was my lifeline :) The solution for me is to block all updates or make sure i dont take updates that disable my suspend. fingers crossed, its a daily brain test to carefully review updates, i am having fun. -- [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 526354] Re: [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume
** Description changed: On boot I have two sets of sensors (coretemp and acpi) both of which report reasonable temperatures, also the Fans respond to load and keep the machine alive. Following suspend/resume cycle the acpi temperature sensors stop reporting anything other than 0c and the fans no longer respond to load leading to hard power off on overhead. Fail! I have managed to confirm this is present back at least to -11 kernels, I could not suspend/resume the -7 kernel I happen to have. Karmic was not affected. @Maxime There was a regression issue hence 2.6.32-20 doesnt have this fix anymore. If you want the fix you can install the latest kernels 2.6.34, like i installed http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-rc4-lucid/ take the two debs for your architecture, mine is amd64. Early morning report .. brightness controls still working (this was one of the very old problems which was fixed in 2.6.32). No error messages in dmesg. System was in sleep for 8 hours. Resumed and temperatures are still visible yay. Fan working. awesome .. thank you both william and andy. I have tested it with the linux debs from andy and ACPI temps show fine and finally i feel fan running after resume from suspend .. thank you very very much. Regarding the problem that william is having, dont worry william that seems to be a problem with 2.6.32-19 i guess, actually i was consistently getting the error before using andys linux debs. After using linux kernel from andy, i did not get that problem , though i am sure it will come back but obviously it is certainly not related to the patch. So please do apply this to the release :) its awesome, i can confirm it works. My specs again (though i am not 1537 i am 1555) - ubuntu 64 bit - dell 1555 with ATI graphics. [Bug 526354] Re: [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume
@Wiiliam i agree its better to have more information. Ok as per that i guess acpi_integer is U64 so that should be ok, but as per http://www.acpica.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=824 acpi_integer is obsolete , though it seems to be valid in 2.6.32 it is obsolete in the latest linux source. Thats my guess. For now using acpi_integer seems fine. [Bug 526354] Re: [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume
I am waiting for daily kernel ppa updates to show up with this patch applied. That way i will not be using a custom kernel .. i will continue taking 2.6.34 updates from there, instead of running on 2.6.32 which i dont think will be getting this patch anyways - unless you submit this back to kernel. But i am guessing lucid would move to 2.6.33 or 34. I will try applying this on my 2.6.32 build, thanks. -- [Dell Studio 1537] temperature sensors and fan stop working following suspend/resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 392812] Re: Dell Studio 1555: cannot change display brightness after a while, other hotkeys and ACPI stuff begin to fail
sad :( after one fix, now ACPI thermal fails after resume. I think i will always keep waiting for newer kernel releases. Why do people break ACPI so easily. There needs to be a good control on that. ubuntu should use the latest kernels.. now my wait is longer, couldnt use 9.10 thanks to brightness problem, now i will not be able to use 10.04 thanks to thermal problem. now when i get the next, there will be another ACPI problem. This will keep happening for ever. ACPI is very very critical for a laptop. -- Dell Studio 1555: cannot change display brightness after a while, other hotkeys and ACPI stuff begin to fail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

why is the status incomplete .. william clearly states the problem too and the fix too. Sadly if it is in 2.6.33 we wouldnt get it for lucid, unless its backported to 2.6.32. i had issues with 2.6.31 due to brightness problem .. Why is ACPI always in a buggy state .. its sad. for me hibernate doesnt work :) Dont worry your computer lifetime wont be affected, since laptops are equipped with cut off sensors, so the moment it reaches a critical temperature thats bad for cpu it will just die (i mean not real death but it will just go dead) and when starting too it will give a warning .. so its safe.

I am on 2.6.31-16 64 bit and looks like it is working fine (i am able to control brightness in dell studio 1555). I had problems with ever other kernel before this, some work for 2-3 mins and then fail, but its been about 3 hours and it is still working dont know if it will fail later, but i did suspend, restart etc, and it keeps working. So its hopefully in this. I know 2.6.32 has certainly fixed it, i installed ubuntu 10.04 alpha 1, and it works but then ATI propretiary graphics wont work, hence i have issues coming up from suspend, the screen looks blurred and shakes. So i need the graphics drivers, so i went back to ubuntu 9.10 , with the hope that i will use catalyst control center to control brightness, as i always did. But then i got 2.6.31-16 in the update as soon as i installed today, so i installed and i was pleasantly surprised .. touch wood, touch wood. i am on ubuntu 9.10 (which has kde too) , though i am running gnome. My specs Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit Kernel 2.6.31-16 Dell studio 1555 - ATI Radeon HD 4000 series card. Brightness and battery meter etc all work, and ubuntu is now able to recognize that i am unplugging etc. So ACPI is fixed. (touch wood). [Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend
More so, the sound (beep) is usually since if i have kept my volume at some level, and if volume is at higher level the beep is more loud. It sounds like my fire alarm. I have been waking up my wife early morning due to that sound (she looks scared and asks me if something is on fire .. i have to reassure that its my laptop) .. So now i remember to keep my sound muted. But funny fact is that suspend seems to have worked, since i dont find my laptop hot nor do i hear any fan from the laptop or see the power led on. So suspend has actually worked but message says something is wrong .. so if its just a message problem, i dont thing i would worry about it a lot :) -- [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem.
