What is the appropriate way to do this with Ubuntu Gnome, that means
gdm3 instead of lightdm? I cannot find the corresponding config file.

[Bug 1611745] [NEW] OpenGL not working through ssh -X

2016-08-10 Thread chives
Public bug reported:

I need to run several OpenGL-depending programs through ssh -x, like
tecplot, mayavi or paraview. I connect to the remote machine with ssh -X
(or ssh -Y, doesn't matter). Then I test opengl using e.g. glxinfo.

The output of glxinfo on the remote machine says that it was unable to
create the OpenGL context. In the other remote programs I receive the
same error message. On the local machine, it works fine. See the
logfiles attached (local_glxinfo.log, remote_glxinfo.log).

I configured my Xorg according to the attached xorg.conf. The
configuration was produced with nvidia-settings and two manual tweaks,
lines 54 and 74. I added those lines because I could not (and still
can't) enforce indirect rendering of my graphics card. Indirect
rendering is still switched off, see lines 102 and 167 in Xorg.0.log.

The issue does also occur when no manually generated xorg.conf is
present.

I'm using the latest drivers from the package nvidia-361.

The issue occurs with and without my graphics card (Intel HD 4600, or
GeForce 605). Before I switched to ubuntu-gnome 16.04 I had a xubuntu
14.04 LTS running. There some applications would work, other would not.
Now nothing works at all.

My notebook (Lenovo Yoga S1) has a capacitive touch screen as well as an
inductive screen for styluses. When I rest my palm on the screen and
then hover my stylus above the screen so that the stylus is recognized
and the mouse pointer follows it, and then move the stylus around Gnome
seems to freeze for some seconds. The duration of the freeze is

"Freeze" means that the screen is not updated. Keyboard inputs that I

I do not need to touch the screen with the stylus for the bug to occur.
The bug occurs also when I actually touch the screen with the stylus.

What I expect to happen (and what actually happens in all stylus-
supporting tablets, running with Android or Windows) is that the input
from the touch screen is rejected as long as the stylus is hovering
  above the screen.

I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 (non-LTS) with the latest packages. The
problem was present in 15.10 as well.

I attach a script as a workaround solution.

[Bug 1600371] [NEW] Gnome freezes for some seconds on simultaneous touch and stylus input (palm rejection fails)

[Bug 1598426] Re: Accelerometer and light sensor only working after pm-suspend

2016-07-04 Thread chives
I only became aware of this issue after I recently upgraded to 16.04.
All I can say is that automatic screen rotation did NOT work in 15.10.
I'm not sure if this was already implemented in Ubuntu Gnome 15.10. I
cannot give any comments on the output of `gdbus introspect [...]` for
any version before 16.04.

I'm sorry for having missed the "have-the-bios-updated" part of the FAQ.
I did this now.

1)
# dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
B0ET33WW (1.20 )
04/29/2016

2) The problem persists without any kind of improvement.

Thanks for the support.

penalvch, thanks for addressing this issue so quickly.

I'm afraid there is no further information. The stickers only provide
the machine code and the serial number. The machine code allows for
precise identification of the hardware for Lenovo computers. Also in the
BIOS there's no information visible that is not printed here.

This is a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (S1, first generation), machine code
20C0003SFR.

[Bug 1598426] [NEW] Accelerometer and light sensor only working after pm-suspend

2016-07-02 Thread chives
Public bug reported:

My notebook has a built-in accelerometer and light sensor. Both are not working
after normal startup, which I can confirm by the output of
sudo gdbus introspect --system --dest net.hadess.SensorProxy --object-path
/net/hadess/SensorProxy
Also the automatic screen rotation does not work at this point.

As soon as I go into suspend and return, I receive a valid output for
both. The screen rotation then works fine as well.

[Bug 1598394] [NEW] intel_pstate has too aggressive frequency selection

2016-07-02 Thread chives
Public bug reported:

I was recently upgrading from Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 to 16.04 on my
ThinkPad. Before the frequency-scaling chose the minimum possible
frequency when the system was on low load. Now, when I allow the CPU to
choose anything between the lowest and highest possible frequency, it
sticks to the highest frequency for 90% of time and only occasionally
drops to the low frequency.

I can confirm (htop) that my system load is practically zero. Also the
CPU Power Manager Applet from Gnome Shell works well, because I can
force low frequency by reducing the maximum allowed frequency and can
also switch off Turbo Boost.
