[Bug 1283267] Re: Strange mouse behavior (Window Management)

2014-07-23 Thread chreko
I can confirm this bug: The maximized window of a number of applications
displaces the effects of the mouse such that for clicking on a button I
must click above a button to activate it. A similar bug has been
reported at

I am using nautilus-sendto (2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1) on AMD64. As before and
as described in comment #29, nothing will happen after Evolution starts.
I have purged and reinstalled all relevant packages including libebook
and libedataserver; the latter because of the workaround in #7 I tried.

  Here the details:

1.) Some areas in the GUIs of my wine applications appear as black
areas. This bug has been reported here
  (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30157) and here
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24430) and appear to be related
  to Xorg's Intel driver (2.12).

2.) The pull-down menus of the main panel or any window's menu fail to
appear after a first click. It usually needs a second click to show up.

I have a notebook with integrated Intel core GPU and a discrete ATI
Radeon GPU (HD 5600 series). The two issues mentioned above only
occurred while using the integrated Intel core GPU.

2011-03-13 Thread chreko
I am not sure if the following is a relevant workaround for you, but it
is worth checking it:

See section "BRIGHTNESS CONTROL OF THE DISPLAY" at http://www.andreas-
demmer.de/en/2010/07/18/testbericht-linux-auf-dem-hp-envy-14/

In particular: "[...] After having done this, there should exist a file
named /sys/class/backlight/i915/brightness. If you write values between
0 and 9 into it, the brightness of the screen changes immediately:

echo -n5 > /sys/class/backlight/i915/brightness

[Bug 719831] [NEW] Strange artifacts related to the xorg's intel driver

2011-02-15 Thread chreko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Here the details:

1.) Some areas in the GUIs of my wine applications appear as black
areas. This bug has been reported here
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30157) and here
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24430) and appear to be related
to Xorg's Intel driver (2.12).

2.) The pull-down menus of the main panel or any window's menu fail to
appear after a first click. It usually needs a second click to show up.

I have a notebook with integrated Intel core GPU and a discrete ATI
Radeon GPU (HD 5600 series). The two issues mentioned above only
occurred while using the integrated Intel core GPU.

[Bug 602899] Re: [gm45] Xserver crash

2011-02-12 Thread chreko
Hi,

I am experiencing some strange artifacts with X, and I am wondering now
if it is maybe related to this bug. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 with
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12. Here the problems:

1.) Some areas in the GUIs of my wine applications appear as black
areas. This bug has been reported here
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30157) and here
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24430) and appear to be related
to Xorg's Intel driver (2.12).

2.) The pull-down menus of the main panel or any window's menu fail to
appear after a first click. It usually needs a second click to show up.
I will need to confirm that this still happen when changing my video
card.

[Bug 568611] Re: Screen brightness control fails on Dell Studio 1558

2011-01-23 Thread chreko
I am not sure if this bug is affecting me, and if I am right to post my
comment here. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 (AMD64) on a HP ENVY 14 with an
Intel i5 CPU (and integrated GPU).

The fn keys (fn+f2 and f3) for controlling the brightness do work.
However, I noticed the following:

1.) Ubuntu did start with dark screen (minimum brightness set to 0) as
described here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1593079).
Adding "echo 2 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness" to
/etc/init.d/rc.local as sugessted did help.

2.) Settings in gnome-power-manager related to the backlight had no real
effects, except on notify-osd. For example, although
brightness_dim_battery (LCD dimming amount when on battery) was set to
50, unplugging the notebook had no effects on the brightness, but
notify-osd appeared to be reduced by a half.

3.) the notify-osd was completly out of sync; while it could only be
increased and decreased in five steps, the brightness itself could be
changed in ten steps. A similar bug was reported here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/351326).
Adding "acpi_backlight=vendor" as suggested as a solution did deactivate
the fn keys (fn+f2 and f3) completely and /sys/class/backlight became
empty. However, ubuntu did start with full-bright screen.

I am wondering now if the backlight PPA could be a solution to my
problem?

[Bug 351326] Re: screen brightness notification out of sequence with keypresses on Dell XPS M1530

2011-01-23 Thread chreko
I am also affected by this bug. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 (AMD64) on a HP
ENVY 14 with an Intel i5 CPU (and integrated GPU).

The fn keys (fn+f2 and f3) for controlling the brightness do work.
However, the notify-osd is completly out of sync; while it could only be
increased and decreased in five steps, the brightness itself could be
changed in ten steps. The brightness could also be modified by editing
"/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness" by changing the existing
number with another between 0 and 10 (see
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1593079).

Adding "acpi_backlight=vendor" as suggested did however deactivate the
fn keys (fn+f2 and f3) completely and /sys/class/backlight appeared to
be empty. Ubuntu on the other hand did start with full bright screen but
no way to modify the brightness.

Something that could be interesting is the following: Settings in gnome-
power-manager related to the backlight has no real effects, except on
notify-osd. For example, although brightness_dim_battery (LCD dimming
amount when on battery) was set to 50, unplugging the notebook had no
effects on the brightness, but notify-osd appeared to be reduced by a
half.

[Bug 342279] [NEW] Forwarding Evolution RSS feed is not readable outside of evolution client

2009-03-13 Thread chreko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-rss

When forwarding a rss feed inside of evolution as an attachment,
receivers won't be able to read it, except when they are also using
evolution.

If forwarded as an "inline" or "quoted" message, unfortunately no url to
the original page is included into the message.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 and evolution 2.24.3 together with
evolution-rss 0.1.0

[Bug 126104] Re: emblems are too small

2008-04-13 Thread chreko
Does not work for me, because I am using Tango, which uses some of the
48x48 emblems from the gnome-icon-theme. Changing the following part of
/usr/share/icons/gnome/index.theme will only makes some emblems appears
bigger. So should be an other solution!

[48x48/emblems]
#Size = 48
Size=32
Context=Emblems
Type=Fixed

[Bug 157200] metacity wont start directly if compiz and xserver-xgl are removed

2007-10-25 Thread chreko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

If you create a new user after havin removed compiz and xserver-xgl,
this user will need to wait up to 5 min. until the default window
manager (metacity) will start.

I believe that gnome expects the visual effects (compiz) to be used by
default and will only start metacity after a while. The problem ist that
even if one deactivate the visual effects, gnome will still expect
compiz to be used. The only way to solve this problem is (1.) to install
compiz and xserver-xgl again, (2.) to deactivate visual effects and (3.)
because one still doesnt need compiz, to remove compiz and xserver-xgl
again.

I believe it should be more easy, if one doesnt want to use compiz.

[Bug 149205] Re: network-manager-vpnc asks for password even though it's in the gnome-keyring

2007-10-25 Thread chreko
Another way how this can be temporally fixed is by using Seahorse
(Passwords and Encryption Keys). There you will find your passwords
under the tab "passwords". After deleting them, network-manager could
remember my password again. At least this is what happened to me. So the
problem seems to be related with seahorse.
