[Bug 1925010] Re: shim-signed 15.4 does not boot on EFI 1.10 systems

2021-05-22 Thread chrisisbd
Should I still be getting "No new release found." when trying to upgrade
an xubuntu 20.10 system to 21.04?

It's a bit odd since I have two systems running xubuntu, I upgraded one
a few days ago from 20.10 to 21.04 (using do-release-upgrade) but the
other system still keeps saying "No new release found." when I run do-
release-upgrade.

Did this fix get released and then un-released or something?

[Bug 1785503] [NEW] systemd journal too large

2018-08-05 Thread chrisisbd
Public bug reported:

The directory size limits for systemd journal files are much too large.

The rules woud work for a small[ish] partition dedicated to /var/log but
when (as is usual) /var/log is on the main systm partition the size
limits are too big.

For example I have a system where the main disk is 1000Gb, /var/log is
on this disk. Thus the 10% limit for /var/log/journal would be 100Gb,
the 4Gb absolute limit is therefore used but this is still far too big
in my opinion.

[Bug 1685628] Re: DNS domain search no longer works

2017-06-04 Thread chrisisbd
Yes, I have this problem in xubuntu 17.04.

getent hosts works with unqualified names
systemd-resolve  works with unqualified names
host  doesn't work
dig  doesn't work

Adding 'search ' to /etc/resolv.conf fixes the problem, so as a
workaround I have added this to /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head.

[Bug 659872] Re: Aliases in /etc/hosts overwritten

2011-03-19 Thread chrisisbd
I think *any* rewriting of /etc/hosts by Network Manager (or anything
else for that matter) is simply *wrong*.

I have a local DNS server on my LAN which provides everything needed, in
particular it provides an FQDN for my system.

Thus my /etc/hosts is:-

127.0.0.1  localhost

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

If Network Manager adds *anything* looking like a domain then it breaks my DNS
and various things (like
apache2 and leafnode) complain about not being able to find a domain name for
my system.

[Bug 607071] Re: X server segfaults when using XTest

2010-08-22 Thread chrisisbd
Could this be related to a problem I'm having with the command xte in
10.04?

I use xbindkeys + xte to make the fourth button on my Logitech mouse
work as a double click of button 1, I have the following in
.xbindkeysrc:-

"/usr/bin/xte 'mouseup 9' 'mouseclick 1' 'mouseclick 1' &"
b:9

I.e. when I hit button 9 (which is the fourth button) the xte command
above is executed. This works prefectly in 9.04 and 9.10 but just does
nothing at all in 10.04. Since xte uses the XTest facility I was
wondering if the bug is connected?

[Bug 485665] Re: lpr prints text too large, can only fit 47 characters per line

2009-12-04 Thread chrisisbd

I got in touch with the CUPS developers and I have a quick and nasty
workaround which is to comment out the "text/plain" line in
/usr/share/cups/mime/texttopdf.convs.

What the CUPS developer said to me was (with some context from the
exchange) :-

>>>   D [04/Dec/2009:17:42:00 +] PID 2650 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/tex>
>>
>> This is the problem. Please report this to the Ubuntu folks - they
need to fix their text f ilter.
>>

> necessary)

Look for a *.convs file in /usr/share/cups/mime or /etc/cups that has
"texttopdf" in it. Comment out any lines that refer to this filter and>

> ... and what do I report to the Ubuntu people exactly, I can hardly
> just copy the above line to them! :-)

They need to support the standard CUPS text options documented here:

http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/options.php

So the problem is a filter misconfiguration.

2009-07-05 Thread chrisisbd
I have this problem and, for me, it *isn't* fixed by the 2.7.1 drivers.

... and I do have version 2.7.1:-

chris$ apt-cache showpkg xserver-xorg-video-intel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Versions:
2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1
(/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_ubuntu-x-swat_x-updates_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
 (/var/lib/dpkg/status)

My system works because (as described in the first report) the first gdm/X
using Intel fails completely on console 7 and I get a second one using the vesa
drivers on console 9 which works OK (but no Intel acceleration etc.).

Is there anything I can do to help debug this problem and/or any
workarounds?

My motherboard is an Asus P5Q-VM with on-board Intel G45/G43 chipset.

[Bug 279011] Re: virtual consoles not shown, Intel G45

2008-11-12 Thread chrisisbd
I have exactly this problem too with Intel graphics on an Asus P5Q-VM
motherboard.

In addition on my system X crashes (and takes the whole system with it,
can't ssh or ping) when I logout. The only thing I can do is hit the
reset button. This crash is fixed by putting Option "NoAccel" in
xorg.conf.

[Bug 281403] [NEW] Sessions not saved in Sessions Preferences

2008-10-10 Thread chrisisbd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Selecting "Automatically remember running applications when logging out"
or clicking on "Remember currently runnning application" doesn't save
the current session. It simply doesn't save anything at all. If you
log out and then log back in again after doing either of these things no
applications are started.

Running "gnome-session-save" from the command line does seem to save the
session though.
