I can confirm that it happens on my PC too - it does not happen upon
every boot but when it happens again I will post more detailed info -
this is with root and home on ext4.

My DVD writer is /0/100/1f.5/0.0.0/dev/cdrom diskDVD-RAM
GH22NS30

Brasero does not detect the burner even with the newest 2.6.31-4-generic kernel
on 64-bit Ubuntu Karmic.
I did manage to burn a disc sucessfully with Gnomebaker - I do not know if
there is a verify option
Also burn a disc with k3b - it seems to finish sucessfully but gives an error
on verification - track 1 differs? if I remember correctly.

Hi Alberto

Thanks for helping me last night with the NVIDIA drivers.

Just for interest sake I want to mention that I could not get the driver
from the repositories to work, that is why installed the driver from
Nvidia in the hope that I can get the PC working in the meantime and
install it from repositories later. I do not usually install it like I
have done.

Anyway it is alearning experience for me .

Thanks again.

Thank you Alberto for your patience. Compiz also working.

Do you know if there is a issue with Twinview?

I have tried before on Intrepid and it is not working properly.

Two screens left on 15" @ 1024x768 and right one 1028x1024.

It use to work on Hardy.

Thanks a gain - it is now 00:24 here in South Africa and must go to

2008-07-21 Thread chrismine
Thanks for the response. Installing the driver from the NVIDIA website
is the only way I can get a acceptable screen resolution. For some
reason the nv driver does not work. About two weeks ago I posted the
problem on the Ubuntu forums but it seems that everybody is overlooking
it.

I have also following this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=863802
and this is my post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=859360

This is a test machine and I am willing to play around and uninstall the
driver.

I even tried the PPA drivers.

Thanks Alberto.

I confirm also. When I run the following command in a terminal this is
the output -

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo adduser test
[sudo] password for chrisjan:
Adding user `test' ...
Adding new group `test' (1001) ...
Adding new user `test' (1002) with group `test' ...

Stopped: symlink: Permission denied

Removing directory `/home/test' ...
Removing user `test' ...
Removing group `test' ...
groupdel: group test does not exist
adduser: `groupdel test' returned error code 6. Exiting.

Hopefully it gives some pointers.

[Bug 191889] Re: Firefox always start in offline mode

2008-02-15 Thread chrismine
I also filed a bug for Evolution for the same behavior. As I had
network-manager 0.7 installed Sebastien Bacher asked me to downgrade to
the hardy version 0.6.5. The behavior does not occur any more. The bug
for Evolution is #191901

[Bug 191901] Re: Evolution always start in offline mode

I did a force version to 0.6.5 and the problem is solved now, albeit the
network applet is gone now from the panel.

Thank you.

[Bug 191901] Re: Evolution always start in offline mode

2008-02-14 Thread chrismine
I use the new network manager 0.7. It is connected but to be honest I
get the same behaviour with Firefox since yesterday. When I disable work
offline both works. The evolution problem happens since about two weeks
ago.

Maybe I should have filed a bug against network manager?

[Bug 187594] Re: gnome-settings-daemon segfaults

2008-02-01 Thread chrismine
I found a workaround:
Open configuration editor and look for apps->
gnome-settings-daemon->screensaver and disable start-screensaver
apps-> gnome-settings-daemon->plugins->screensaver and disable active. Then
logged of and on and it seems to be normal.

[Bug 173843] Re: static network settings not applied

2007-12-13 Thread chrismine
I have the same problem - running Hardy Alpha.

First a problem with network-admin not starting - now starting up but
settings not kept. When I try to connect to my wireless network it keeps
asking for the network key - when I checked the keyring it tells me the
keyring daemon is not running. May this be related to Policykit?
