[Bug 1057541] [NEW] Synaptic Does Not Correctly Install mysql-workbench

2012-09-27 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

The answer to this question

http://askubuntu.com/questions/193663/what-components-are-needed-for-
mysql-workbench

lists a bunch of prerequisites needed to get mysql-workbench working
properly. In the past Synaptic has nearly always installed packages
correctly, and, IMHO, is part of Ubuntu's backbone and what makes Ubuntu
a very good development environment.

Just to make this bug report more self-contained, here is the list of
packages from the answer whose link is above.

Install or re-install (as I was told)
Gnome Tunnel Manager
python (2.7.3-0ubuntu2)
python-all (2.7.3-0ubuntu2)
python-appindicator (0.4.92-0ubuntu1)
python-apport (2.0.1-0ubuntu10)
python-apt (0.8.3ubuntu7)
python-apt-common (0.8.3ubuntu7)
python-aptdaemon (0.43+bzr805-0ubuntu2)
python-aptdaemon-gtk (0.43+bzr805-0ubuntu2)
python-aptdaemon.gtk3widgets (0.43+bzr805-0ubuntu2)
python-aptdaemon.gtkwidgets (0.43+bzr805-0ubuntu2)
python-aptdaemon.pkcompat (0.43+bzr805-0ubuntu2)
python-avahi (0.6.30-5ubuntu2)
python-beautifulsoup (3.2.0-2build1)
python-cairo (1.8.8-1ubuntu3)
python-crypto (2.4.1-1ubuntu0.1)
python-gnomekeyring (2.32.0+dfsg-1)
python-gnupginterface (0.3.2-9.1ubuntu3)
python-mysql.connector (0.3.2-1)
python-oauth (1.0.1-3build1)
python-openssl (0.12-1ubuntu2)
python-paramiko (1.7.7.1-2)
python-pycryptopp (0.5.29-1build1)

[Bug 972434] Re: Why do lp and lpr return unauthorized?

2012-04-07 Thread cmnorton
What I'm hoping someone can suggest is how to live with what is
happening. My user name is part of lpadmin. To what other groups should
I belong, so that applications I launch can print? Would doing that make
a difference?

[Bug 972434] [NEW] Why do lp and lpr return unauthorized?

2012-04-03 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with latest updates.

Here are my system's protections for lp and lpr.
root@steamboy:/usr/bin# ls -l lp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13540 2011-09-12 10:41 lp
root@steamboy:/usr/bin# ls -l lpr
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13540 2011-09-12 10:41 lpr

Only if I sudo can I print something at the command line, else
I can unauthorized.

I do have an smb printer with username and password embedded, but I
believe this problem occurred during one of the 10.04 updates. So my
question is what would cause lp or lpr to return Unauthorized?

ics@steamboy:~/icsdev$ lp x.tmp
lp: Unauthorized
ics@steamboy:~/icsdev$ lpr x.tmp
lpr: Unauthorized

(x.tmp is a real file.)

All printers have this problem. One of these is a PDF printer; two
others are network printers. Please post the command you would like me
to use to debug further.

then re-installing, and taking the .mozilla/firefox directory from
working Ubuntu 10.04 system and replacing the one on my affected system.

I got bookmarks back,

Something went wrong during the upgrade.

[Bug 360818] Re: NetworkManager.vpn fails -- nm-vpn-connection.c.900: NeedSecrets

2011-09-06 Thread cmnorton
I revisited this. I used Applications --> Accessories --> Passwords and
Encryption keys. I see where a connection's read and write properties
could be checked. However, my vpn connection is not present in this
list. So, when created, it's never getting there. Any ideas on how to
get it there by hand configuration?

So, obviously, this is still a bug for me.

[Bug 802296] [NEW] Firefox 5 Problems With Ubuntu 10.04

2011-06-26 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

I tried reporting a bug, but that process failed on my Ubuntu 10.04
system. So, I am trying to report the bug via the ask a question
process.

When I visited a wordpress blog, a note indicated my browser was old and
I should upgrade Firefox. I did, and it's been a disaster ever since.

Firefox hangs; the Ubuntu additions won't install; and address
completion is broken. I would like to reinstall the prior version or fix
what I have.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Here is the troubleshooting information.

2011-05-03 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

Help displays correctly.
Insert is using a different character set.
Existing files have each of their lines reversed.
vim not affected, only gVim on Gnome Ubuntu 10.04.
Using existing .vim config files from another working Ubuntu 10.04 system.
TERMCAP set correctly.

I am looking for a command to enter to change this.

[Bug 360818] Re: NetworkManager.vpn fails -- nm-vpn-connection.c.900: NeedSecrets

2011-03-26 Thread cmnorton
I found the keys at Applications -> Accesories -> Passwords and
Encryption Key, but there is no freedesktop there.

I did find my VPN connection that does not work -- same error "would not
start", after setting the the read write privs.

I don't have

* Goto System -> Preferences -> Passwords and Encryption Keys.

My entry is encryption and keyrings, and my connection for VPN is not
there. Is there a workaround?

I would like this to become unexpired. I have been having pptp

participant to provide logs, performs tests, or whatever else is
necessary to get this fixed or get a workaround.

[Bug 640814] [NEW] CUPS Admin Client Won't Launch

2010-09-16 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

In 10.04, when I select System --> Administration --> Printing, the
application shows the wait icon, but never launches. I've looked through
messages, syslog, and cups/error_log, but cannot find anything obvious
to tell me what is wrong.

Also, the printer which usually never has a problem won't print certain
PDF files.

[Bug 636341] [NEW] NetworkManager.vpn fails -- nm-vpn-connection.c.900: NeedSecrets

2010-09-12 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I am currently running Ubuntu Lucid.

I am having the same or at least very similar problems to bug 360818.
Network manager allows me to configure a VPN connection, but the process
fails to complete. I can connect using Windows XP using the same VPN IP
address, user name, and password.

Here is some information from syslog.

cnor...@mrshighpants:~$ sudo tail /var/log/syslog

I would be happy to perform any tests, experiments, and so on to
facilitate getting this problem resolved.

Thank you.

My Palm synched on Ubuntu 9.10 for quite a while. A few updates ago, not
sure which one it stopped. Here is the output from syslog:

Thinking the Palm device might have gone bad, I tried synching to MS

problem shows up as the Palm needing to be reset.

[Bug 588016] [NEW] pptp-linux process not started with 10.04 Ubuntu Full Install and Upgrade

Public bug reported:

Could not process the request because no VPN connection was active.

I've installed the right components, or so I believe. I've configured
the vpn.

If someone could point out intermediate files and a way to invoke them,
I'd appreciate it.

[Bug 523250] [NEW] CD in drive causes Nautilus to crash

2010-02-17 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Please do not mark this bug invalid. It is reproducible. If media is
inserted in my CD/DVD reader/writer, and I try to use "Places" on the
Ubuntu menu (nautilus), then Nautilus crashes pretty quickly. I did look
at other bugs, and one with CD/USB in the title was marked invalid;
otherwise I would have attached to that bug.

Here are my logs:

stops. I close out Firefox, start a new instance, and all is well.

[Bug 503812] [NEW] Remember password checkbox won't save my password

2010-01-06 Thread cmnorton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

This may be similar or a duplicate of bug # 455734.

Basically, I am prompted for a username and password, when printing to
my network printer. I check the box that says Remember password, but the
username and password are not preserved for the next printing.

Is there a temporary workaround?

[Bug 447681] Re: no sound at boot with karmic

2009-10-31 Thread cmnorton
I also have this problem. I run sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload to get the
sound back. This is on 9.10 on System76 Gazelle Ultra hardware. I've
also reported this problem to System76.
