[Bug 1413242] [NEW] ipset (trusty) fails to support large timeouts; known issue -- patch available

2015-01-21 Thread darx
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

current trusty ships ipset v 6.20.1-1
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/ipset).

this version fails to support large timeouts, arbitrarily & incorrectly
changing set timeout values on x86_64.

in effect, a security-relaed paramenter is set by admin, and it's either
ignored or changed arbitrarily.

it's apparently a known issue,

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=764328%3E
http://marc.info/?l=netfilter-devel&m=141293197611273&w=2
http://marc.info/?l=netfilter-devel&m=141351695203549&w=2

with a fix already in upstream for (iiuc) v > 6.23.x.

could we get a packaged version for trusty that either

(1) applies the patch
(2) backports the current ipset version, 6.24?

thanks.

I was trying out KDE4 and poking buttons and I tried to ctrl+tab between
opened tabs in konqueror (does it even work?) when suddenly out of the

be useful for someone who knows what they are doing. This bug is
reproducible all you have to do is open conqueror, take the focus to the
the window/frame/body and ctrl+tab a few time.

[Bug 194249] Re: atieventsd crashed with SIGSEGV in _XSend()

2008-03-10 Thread darx
kernel 2.6.24-12-generic is the problem.

Temporary fix:
Boot into the previous kernel version,
Reenable the fglrx driver from System > Administration > Hardware drivers and
reboot again to the previous kernel. In my machine it is 2.6.24-11-generic.

I don't know if this will work if you updated from other ubuntu
versions. I was already in hardy.

[Bug 199860] Re: High CPU usage by yelp

2008-03-08 Thread darx
To reproduce the bug:

1, Start yelp from anywhere, system > help and support or via the command line
2, If yelp doesn't have focus, bring it forward
3, CPU usage shoots up and stays the same unless yelp is closed. Minimizing it
or making it loose focus doesn't help.

I can't backtrace following this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace yelp
doesn't crash. It only spins the CPU to 100%.

I'm attaching the sysprof output. (don't know if I've done it correctly
though. I started sysprof as root, hit play, ran yelp, let yelp run for
a minute or so, closed yelp, hit the profile button and saved the
output)

This bug is viral. This bug should be named the MRSA (Microsoft's

stands now, the normal FLOSSa isn't powerful enough against this

[Bug 147033] function key events takes time to respond

2007-09-29 Thread darx
Public bug reported:

This was the case ever since I started using ubuntu (dapper). But now
that Ubuntu is very polished and ready for the mainstream desktop, I
thought I might as well report this small annoyance.

On all the ubuntu machines I've used, the function keys take a while to
respond if the system has been idiling for a while or is under load.

Gutsy is awesome by the way. Every thing works fine. Great work , thank
you. :-)

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-08-10 Thread darx
I too have the same issue. Although it doesn't take as long, the time
from login to desktop is significantly slower than that of feisty. I'm
on gutsy tribe4. My laptop has an ati x300. So mine's not an nvidia
issue.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 60326 ***

I've got the very same problem with feisty. Sometime it works, some times it
does not. All media players affected including audio players such as rythmbox
and audacious.
Copying works at fine and at full speed.

[Bug 107270] freqency scaling does not work optimally

2007-04-17 Thread darx
Public bug reported:

I'm running a pentium m 740 processor. Ubuntu feisty does not scale
frequency optimally. The available frequencies are 800Mhz t0 1.7Ghz in
four steps. The cpu doesn't run at 600mhz and hence battery life
suffers.. also the cpu fan only operates at one speed and runs most of
the time.. This is also the case with Centos 5.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
