[Bug 883272] Re: Mouse navigation not working in fulls creen mode

2011-10-28 Thread dfoerster
Hi Matthew,

this is how I can trigger the described behaviour:

 * Click on any .avi file in the file manager.
 * When it opens it totem and starts playing press the F key => Playback
switches into full screen mode
 * Moving the mouse does not have any visible effect, the navigation area is
not displayed

If I had to guess I'd say it's caused by the window (or overlay)
displaying the video does not receive the mouse input.

When pressing the left mouse button and moving the mouse ("dragging") a
"drag" icon is displayed as the cursor, indicating a document being
dragged. Otherwise there is no pointer displayed at all.

Information about my video card (onboard Radeon) can be found in the
xorg log attached to the original report.

[Bug 883272] [NEW] Mouse navigation not working in fulls creen mode

2011-10-28 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to oneric navigation in full screen mode is not working
anymore. Moving the mouse used to bring up a navigation area at the
bottom of the window containing the progress bar and basic player
controls such as pause and play. Now moving the mouse doesn't trigger
any action at all and the is no way to bring up the navigation area.

Right clicking does bring up the context menu but left clicking doesn't
even stop the movie. Also the mouse pointer is not visible at all in
full screen mode.

2011-10-27 Thread dfoerster

When selecting the hibernate option from the session menu all it does is
locking the screen. (I expect it to put the computer into hibernation.)

This used to work with natty before I upgraded the system to oneric.

[Bug 870563] Re: All configured printers gone (printers.conf files disappeared )

2011-10-27 Thread dfoerster
Further digging revealed that the custom ppd installed by Samsung's
driver package (.deb file) was gone too. I am afraid this is a very
specific issue related to third party packages and can be closed.

Thanks,
David

[Bug 870563] [NEW] All configured printers gone (printers.conf files disappeared )

2011-10-08 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

After booting up my laptop today I noticed, that my only configured
printer, a network printer was gone. Having a look into /etc/cups I
noticed the printers.conf file is missing.

Comparing to another machine I noticed that the files printers.conf.0,
classes.conf and classes.conf.0 are missing too.

Needless to say this is very annoying.

[Bug 848221] [NEW] Desktop does not start up after login

2011-09-12 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

The problem I am reporting showed up in mid august approximately. Until
then everything was working fine.

When I login through the graphical login screen the desktop does not
load. Instead the ubuntu wallpaper is displayed with no other desktop
elements (panel, dash, ...). My custom wallpaper is also not displayed.
The cursor shows as "loading" and the display turns black and back to
the default wallpaper a couple of times. After that nothing happens.

Logging into the classic mode works.

I am using pam-mount to mount my encrypted home partition.

When logging into the first tty I noticed that I don't get to the shell
immediately. Instead the prompt says:
Last login ...
Welcome to Ubuntu ...

 * Documentation ...

(arg: 7)

Pressing Ctrl+C brought me to the shell. Some kind of login script seems
to wait for input. Maybe that is related to the problem with the desktop
session.

I am happy to provide any other information needed to track this down.

Thanks,
David

[Bug 792434] [NEW] Multimedia key for stop not working correctly

2011-06-03 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

The multimedia keys on my keyboarded worked out of the box with the
exception of the "stop" key. Instead of stopping playback it decreases
the volume (just like the "lower volume" key).

The output from lsusb for the keyboard is:
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0603:00f2 Novatek Microelectronics Corp.

Please let me know how I can provide additional information.

Thanks,
David

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to "menu:minimize, maximize, close"

2010-03-19 Thread dfoerster
Already now a large number of people are upset by the changed placement
of the window controls. There's still time to fix it before the release
though. Just admit people don't like the change and revert it! Put up a
poll if you don't believe it. Releasing this change would have a major
negative impact on usability and alienate a lot of supporters and
advocates.

Any Thinkpad user will expect scrolling with the trackpoint to just
work.

[Bug 122692] Re: Error fatal en el archivo grafico PNG:IDAT:CRC Error

2008-12-04 Thread dfoerster
.. Assuming the installation was broken, I install 8.10 from the scratch
on another partition. And just now I got the same error message again.
Rebooting didn't trigger it again, though.

At first I assumed the file was corrupted on the harddrive for some
reason, but there seems to be something else causing that.

I'm also experiencing this bug. Even before the login screen appears,
I'm getting the same message as the original reporter. (In german
though.) A rough translation is: An error occured loading the theme
Human. The image "/usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/background.png" could not
be loaded. Error reading the PNG file:IDAT:CRC Error

The weird thing is, that this occured in my previously installation of
Ubuntu 8.04 which I upgraded to 8.10. As

[Bug 279694] [NEW] Please configure common command aliases by default

2008-10-07 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

Most of the VCSes I've used accept similar short aliases for common
commands. It would be handy if those were configured by default in git.

[Bug 279547] [NEW] Various settings not saved across reboots

2008-10-07 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop and noticed that many
settings do not persist across reboots. For example, adding the terminal
icon to the panel, changing compiz settings or setting up a VPN
connection.

To me this looks like a gconf problem but I don't know much about Gnome.
The funny thing is that a previously configured VPN connection in
network-manager doesn't show up in the gui anymore but the file
.gconf/system/networking/vpn_connections/myconnection/%gconf.xml still
contains the configuration.

I set up my home directory to be encrypted and mounted at login using
pam_mount, maybe this has something to do with the problem. (gconf
starting before the filesystem is mounted?)

Any help is appreciated.

[Bug 277554] [NEW] Hibernate to disk does not power off

2008-10-03 Thread dfoerster
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a Samsung R65 Laptop. Hibernate to ram
works fine. However when hibernating to disk the machine does not switch
off. After manually switching of and booting again, the session before
hibernating is resumed. So hibernating to disk generally works, the
computer just doesn't switch off.

Any help is appreciated. I attached the syslog from hibernating and
resuming.
