[Bug 1313539] Re: [DisplayPort] monitor shows black screen and "no input signal" after turning the monitor off and on manually
I experienced this problem when I switched from DVI to Display-port due to purchase of a a new monitor "LG 34UC97" running a resolution of 3440x1440. - (K)Ubuntu version is 15.10 - drivers installed are "plain" out of the box, more or less beside the usual "apt-get upgrade". - GPU is definetly a "nvidia geforce gtx 750 TI", however ubuntu reports it as a "GTX 970". My previous ubuntu (?) reported the card correctly. - nvidia drivers are the one installed via kubuntu, namely 352.63. I tried to "handinstall" the latest from nvidia but that screwed up so I rolled back. 1) The problem occurs in the following cases: a) user must be logged in. screen-log or not, does not matter. b) display-port attached monitor is switched off (e.g. over night). c) monitor is switched on but complains now about not receiving a display. 2) The problem does NOT occur when: a) no user is logged in, e.g. only kdm/lightdm login screen is there. b) on windows 10 ( I have installed parallel) I assume the GPU switches off its "service" via display-port to the monitor once the monitor is switched off. However it does not resume "service" when the monitor comes back again. The problem cannot be so difficult to solve as it does not happen in 2b) and especially in 2a) mentioned before. Are there any consolidated updates and solutions for the topic? thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313539 Title: [DisplayPort] monitor shows black screen and "no input signal" after turning the monitor off and on manually To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1313539/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 531622] [NEW] Unclear label text in vino-preferences
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vino The English translation of vino-preferences window has an option called "Configure network automatically to accept connections". It is not at all clear what this means. The tooltip says something about UPnP on the router. I know what UPnP is, but I have no idea what it has to do with sharing my desktop, and I suspect your average user doesn't even know what UPnP is. If this option does something useful, either the label text or the tooltip, or maybe both, should make it obvious what it does. Otherwise it should be removed, perhaps in favor of a more useful option. I should add that the wording of this option is awkward for native English speakers. I *think* it should be "Configure network to automatically accept connections", and the author is laboring under the delusion that "split infinitives" are to be avoided. See: http://ling.ed.ac.uk/~gpullum/grammar/splitinf.html But I can't really tell because I don't know what the option does. Maybe it just configures the network automatically so that other computers can find mine, and I have to check a different box to make my computer automatically accept those connections? [Bug 529337] Re: Hangs for a long time when editing labels on large files
One other comment - I discovered in the code that the karaoke window only uses the first label track. [Bug 529337] Re: Hangs for a long time when editing labels on large files
Yes, still present in the latest snapshot. GDB says it is hanging in Lyrics::Add - it also spends a lot of time there when loading the project or importing the label track. Which is a bit strange since the lyrics/karaoke window is not even visible. I guess that's why it's called 'experimental' :) Once experimental lyrics support is disabled there are some other label editing bugs, but this is the worst one... -- Hangs for a long time when editing labels on large files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 529337] [NEW] Hangs for a long time when editing labels on large files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: audacity How to trigger this bug: 1) Create a fairly long audio file (in this case 45 minutes) 2) Create a label track with a bunch of long labels in it (i.e. transcriptions) 3) Try to edit the text in one of the labels, preferably the first one Audacity will freeze for quite a long time. Actually label editing has a bunch of problems but this one is particularly bad... It turns out that the code that's responsible is the "experimental lyrics window", which can be shown when you choose "Karaoke..." from the View menu. You can easily disable this "feature" by commending out the EXPERIMENTAL_LYRICS_WINDOW line in src/Experimental.h, which makes it possible to edit label texts. But I'm sure some people out there actually use it... [Bug 507243] [NEW] Fresh install of Karmic locks up hard when using browser and listening to music
Public bug reported: I recently re-installed Karmic on a new disk. Since then I have had at least one hard lockup per day. By "hard lockup" I mean a complete lockup that leaves no trace in /var/log/kern.log, and does not respond to any Alt+SysRq combinations. The only thing that I can think of is that this *always* happens when I am listening to music and using Firefox at the same time. Usually when scrolling a web page or doing some other action with the mouse. I don't really know how to get more information about this, sorry. At first I thought that adding "noapic" to the kernel command-line would help, since it cured my earlier lockup problems, but no such luck. If this continues I might try installing Jaunty or Intrepid to see if they have the same problem. Resuming from hibernation also doesn't work anymore, but that's an issue for another bug I guess... Perhaps this is related to that problem. -- ubiquity crashed with RuntimeError in progress_loop() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 495939] Re: File mode specification error: (file-error "Cannot open load file" "sb-html")
Oh I found the offending hook, it is in /etc/emacs/site- start.d/51speedbar.el, which is from the speedbar package (which I have no memory of installing, actually!) So this is more likely to be a bug in speedbar. [Bug 359653] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 61s! [hald-addon-stor:3486]
Hi. I have this problem every day with Karmic. It is always 61s. As with the paraiko above I thought it was related to the nvidia drivers, but I get it with the nv driver too. And, like paraiko, with the nv driver I also can't resume from hibernation - it just hangs. Usually I get the BUG: when listening to music and web browsing at the same time. Lately, though, the process that seems to be hanging is usually 'fuser' (which is a bit odd, I wonder what is running this so often). And why is it always 61s? This is definitely NOT fixed in karmic for me, in fact, I did not get it with Jaunty. One other data point here, though - I have a DVD-RW drive in my system which seems to be malfunctioning. I'm not really sure if it is the drive itself, or the cable (I swapped cables with the hard drive and it's still broken), the driver, or the motherboard. I have also gotten lockups with hald-addon-stor which are surrounded by a bunch of "ata1: lost interrupt" and similar messages. See the attached file for examples. The motherboard has a VIA V8T890 chipset and the CPU is an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ ** Attachment added: "kern.log excerpts" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36179456/kern.log -- BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 61s! [Bug 456273] Re: Playback freezes when playing ogg files
Yes. Totem does this too. You can easily reproduce this, just drag an ogg and an mp3 file into the playlist pane and hit play. Totem will pause in "Playing" state once it switches to the mp3. -- Playback freezes when playing ogg files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 456273] Re: Playback freezes when playing ogg files
Hi ... I'm affected by this too. It definitely happens repeatably when switching from mp3 to ogg. It seems to pause for about 5-6 minutes and then start up again. I added a sequence of mp3, ogg, speex, and aac to my play queue and captured rhythmbox's debug output. Here are the relevant parts from when I start playing (the gory details of loading my music library have been redacted). You can see the difference between when the track switches and when it actually starts playing by looking at the tick_cb messages - they show the same stream position for a long time, then finally switch. I've edited the file so this is more obvious. As expected it also pauses when switching to speex and aac. It seems like the pause gets longer each time. The question is ... is this a rhythmbox or a gstreamer bug? I believe I noticed similar behaviour in totem recently too. ** Attachment added: "edited debug log from rhythmbox" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34085303/rhythmbox_redacted.log.gz -- Playback freezes when playing ogg files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi. Yes, I have this problem too. [Bug 414560] Re: ath9k disassociates/reassociates a lot
The default kernel (as of 2.6.31-14.47) also disassociates repeatedly for me, using wicd, on the CMU network (it doesn't do it at home though). With linux-backports-modules-karmic it seems to work pretty smoothly - I was unable to completely run "apt-get update" before, now it works... Likewise, pinging and downloading a CD image seem to be working okay with backports-modules (version number is 2.6.31-14.16). [Bug 444217] [NEW] ath9k regression in 2.6.31-11
Public bug reported: I'm actually using 2.6.31-10 to type this, because 2.6.31-11 is unusable on my eeepc 1005ha. It connects to a wireless network, but the connection silently stops working after about 10-20 seconds. The system log doesn't show any failures, and iwconfig, ifconfig, and network- manager still think that the connection is up, but it no longer sends or receives data. Not sure what changed in the ath9k driver, but something is definitely broken. 2.6.31-10 doesn't have this problem (though of course it has others). [Bug 439752] [NEW] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 61s! [firefox:22662]
Public bug reported: This just started happening after the upgrade to kernel 2.6.31-11. It has happened three times so far today, the last one was when I was away from the computer - I came back to find it locked up. Since one CPU is still okay, it doesn't lock up hard, but as soon as I try to run something it hangs. I'm not sure if this is a duplicate with other soft lockup bugs because some of them are quite old. This literally just started happening yesterday. [Bug 433308] [NEW] can't connect to a2dp device
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Hi, I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Jensen-WBT310-Universal-Bluetooth- Receiver/dp/B000CMU1NM It is just a garden variety A2DP device, looks like headphones, and works fine with, e.g. SymbianOS and MacOS. I could swear that it worked fine in Jaunty although my memory isn't so clear on that. Anyway, in Karmic, I can successfully pair with it but I can't connect to it. If I select "Connect" in the device's submenu from the Bluetooth tray icon, it does nothing. It doesn't show up in the Audio Preferences device list, so PulseAudio doesn't know anything about it. I don't know where to report this bug, but it Just Does Not Work... and it seems like other people are actually using A2DP semi-successfully. [Bug 425902] [NEW] can't activate ibus in emacs22-gtk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: emacs22 1) Enable ibus for input methods using im-switch -s ibus, make sure ibus-daemon and ibus-ui-gtk are running 2) Set up some hotkey for ibus that doesn't conflict with any Emacs keybindings, Ctrl-` for instance 3) Try to trigger ibus in emacs... [Bug 425882] [NEW] language panel does not show up
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ibus Hi, I decided to try to switch from SCIM to iBus in Karmic since it is supposed to be the wave of the future. First, I tried to run: im-switch -s ibus But this did not work because I had a broken link in ~/.xinput.d/en_US After removing this link, I was able to enable ibus. I logged out and back in and tried to use it. It does appear to allow me to input Chinese characters, however, it refuses to show the language panel, which makes Pinyin input completely useless. Changing the setting in ibus-setup to "always" show it still doesn't cause it to appear. If it makes any difference, I removed all of the hotkeys except Alt- Grave, since I don't have most of them and Ctrl-Space is kind of important for Emacs. Is there any way that I can debug this? I'm mystified as to what program actually runs to show the panel in the first place. Also, I don't have a notification icon for ibus (strangely enough I had one if I started it up when I had SCIM running...) [Bug 291760] Re: network-manager roams to (none) ((none))
I worked around this bug by installing wicd. People should stop saying that it is a kernel or driver bug, or a wpa_supplicant bug. It is a NetworkManager bug, because wicd does not have this problem. In the specific case where I see it, which is a campus network with hundreds of access points, wicd shows me all the separate access points but doesn't roam between them gratuitously. I get 35-40% packet loss with NetworkManager and 0-1% packet loss with wicd. [Bug 291760] Re: network-manager roams to (none) ((none))
In my case this is a very large campus-wide network with hundreds of access points. For some time I believed that the problem was related to specific access points but it seems to happen pretty much everywhere on campus at this point. The operations people say that while the amount of traffic on the wireless network has increased somewhat in the last year, they aren't seeing roaming problems or massive packet loss (I am getting about 30% on average due to this problem) like this, at least, not on Windows or Mac OS X. I strongly suspect network-manager is to blame, and as I mentioned, upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid has only made the problem worse - where before it would randomly roam to a different access point, now it roams to (none) and back. Something in its logic that makes it decide when to switch access points (an action which I'm pretty sure is under the control of userspace and not the driver!) is broken. -- network-manager roams to (none) ((none)) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I haven't yet checked to see if anything in -proposed fixes it (I tried the new gdm, which doesn't). However, I can confirm Peter Hutterer's explanation for the bug. It's really easy to verify. [Bug 196277] Re: [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot
Okay, that makes perfect sense, except that it's not at all clear if it's possible to change the XKB layout for a specific device. It's something that, in the new age of MPX, really ought to be possible, but from what I understand, it would require XKB to be aware of XInput and multiple devices, which I don't think is the case (see http://www.fooishbar.org/talks/fosdem-xkb.pdf). I suppose that what we could do is have libxklavier recopy the XKB layout to the server every time it gets an XkbNewKeyboardNotify event. Which, ironically, is more or less the opposite of what it currently does (it updates its cache from the server's information when it gets this event - this is the source of those "red herring" messages above). -- [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 196277] Re: [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot
The libxklavier author is correct, this is not a bug in libxklavier. It does everything exactly as it should, and calls XkbWriteToServer() to set the new keymap, and checks its return value. I have verified this. The problem is that XkbWriteToServer() is failing silently, for no apparent reason, during startup when autologin is enabled (or, it seems, when GNOME is started via xinit). And yet it works just fine once everything has settled down. I conjecture that the reason it works with manual login is because in that case, the X server has completely started up well before the point where GNOME tries to apply keyboard settings. Maybe moving gnome-settings-daemon later in the startup sequence would fix this? I'm revealing my ignorance of how GNOME actually starts up here...
One more data point here to consider. When I have autologin on, and I run 'setxkbmap -print', it actually does show the options which were set by libxklavier: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" }; xkb_types { include "complete" }; xkb_compat{ include "complete" }; xkb_symbols { include "pc+us+level3(ralt_switch_for_alts_toggle)+group(alts_toggle)+compose(rctrl)" }; xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc101)" }; }; However, these options have not actually been set in the server! As everybody else mentioned, running setxkbcomp with no options (which actually compiles the description and loads it into the server) makes these settings active. This is equivalent to running: setxkbmap -print | xkbcomp - :0 These options aren't stored in any configuration file, so setxkbmap *must* be getting them from the X server somehow, right? And yet, for some reason, the server knows about the uncompiled form of the keyboard description but hasn't actually loaded it... -- [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
