[Bug 881787] Re: no application launcher (.desktop)

2013-06-04 Thread dododoth
The launcher is still missing in Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

#1 fixes this but for me, the entry was displayed without an icon

so here is a new version

[Bug 362944] Re: Pidgin requires restart after connecting to VPN (vpnc)

2009-11-24 Thread dododoth
maybe it's very easy to fix
the network-manager just has to announce the offline mode (vie D-Bus), which
triggers pidgin to disconnect
when the network-manager finally established the new network connection (via
vpn), he switches back to online mode and pidgin does the same

firefox already does this, so it should be reported to the network manager
opinions?

i did some testing

with two screens attached to the primary card and xinerama turned on, it
crashes X when I try to switch to the terminal (alt+ctrl+f1), if i
finaly make it to the terminal it only shows me a blinking hardware
cursor on the second screen.

when I start X with the -retro option from the terminal with xinerama,
i see the the retro desktop on both screens but the system freezes.

[Bug 363011] Re: Xorg hard crash on nvidia multi-gpu system

2009-09-11 Thread dododoth
seems this thread is related, it's kinda old (February 27th, 2009) but
the problem is same, enable Xinerama and watch it crash

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1003263

no look with vesa drivers for me

maybe there is no simple solution to this problem and it seems that it
is not a nvidia-driver specific problem, rather a general Xinerama
problem.

I really want to use Xineram again (atm I have 2 nvidia cards, one amd,
and 5 available screens so it would be awesome to use them all)

maybe it works with wrapping it with Xdmx...

What should I try next? testing with vesa? trying nv or nouveau? maybe X
trys to start xrandr which fails on multi-gpu systems. file a bug
against Xinerama or Xorg? posting some not interesting Xorg.log files?

[Bug 363011] Re: Xorg hard crash on nvidia multi-gpu system

2009-09-08 Thread dododoth
similar problem

today i tried a quadro-head setup, i have
1x Geforce 8600 GTS
1x Geforce 5200 (PCI)
1x Screen 1680x1050
3x 1280x1024

first thing i noticed was that the 180 nvidia driver did not see the geforce
5200, so i switched to the 173
nvidia-settings found both cards and all four screens, enabled all, activated
Xinerama, rebooted and X keeps crashing, instantly, it's not like the typical
crash, the screens first show me Input DVI then go black, then No Input
Signal and that over and over again, sometimes I see a bit of screen
corruption.
without Xinerama (Seperate X Desktops) all four screens work fine
looked into the manual, there it says that xinerama is only supported up to
4096 width, so i started to mess arround. i already get a fine screen
corruption with only one small screen attached to each card.

what's interesting is that i already got tripplehead running, with
Xinerama and now i'm stuck and i don't remember which ubuntu version and
which nvidia driver was working.

[Bug 329896] Re: Pulseaudio network sinks overload CPU

2009-07-31 Thread dododoth
what worked for me was turning enable network access to local sound
devices off on the source side and also turning off make discoverable
network sound dev... on the sink-side

first i thought, that the problem was somewhere else cause of the
strange network behaviour, because the sink is an 4g eeepc attached to
the stereo and while connected over wlan pulseaudio was up and sound was
choppy, but when i connected the netbook to the normal wired lan, the
network traffic and the cpu load kept rising 'til crash. in a nutshell
wlan works, wired-lan crashes ... but now it works over wired lan with
turning the unnecessary services off

[Bug 347711] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Unstable on Jaunty

2009-07-02 Thread dododoth
i could test it with 8.04 too, but i need ext4 support as my storage are
4x1.5TB disks in a Raid5 with ext4

so i think that's not an option for me, i was looking arround for some
other options like using FreeNAS (FreeBSD based) or OpenFiler (linux
based) but no ext4 support there.

so should i try debian or fedora? or do they use the same kernel+driver?

[Bug 193270] Re: Failed to unmount partitions dialog unintuitive

2009-06-02 Thread dododoth
yes/no are BAD options

The Buttons should read No and Unmount

atm, there is a pretty long text and the third sentences reads Do You
want the installer to try to u and then u just got y/n.

[Bug 290415] Re: ubiquity partition step does not show hard disks that were mounted by user during live CD session

2009-03-07 Thread dododoth
I do confirm this behavior

I had the Problem with an usb-drive, as it did not show up in installer,
i first thought it was a problem with the fact, that it was a usb drive
itself.

i would suggest, to show the mounted partition and when you finally want
to format/install/resize/... you get a warning with something like On
hardrive /dev/sdb following partitions are mounted: /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdb4,
as for this the installer can't proceed. so the user at least knows,
where the problem is

[Bug 324885] Re: Install wizard does not fit on 600px vertical resolution

2009-03-07 Thread dododoth
i confirm this behavior
i just installed ubuntu on my first generation eeepc (800x480)
what about just adding scrollbars?
as you can't move windows above the screen to reach the bottom buttons this
would help alot

i think we will see more devices with this screen resolution in the
future (MIDs)

[Bug 95307] installation issue - installed on the false harddisk

2007-03-23 Thread dododoth
Public bug reported:

this issue happened already a second time.
on my laptop i have a 80gig build-in harddisk and a 160gig harddisk attached
with USB. During the Installation he asks me to choose on which harddisk I want
to install the system. The first device is the build in disk and the second the
external harddisk. It seems that the first option is marked, so I thought that
he will install it on the first, build in, disk. But then he installs the
system on the external disk, formatting the whole external disk.

In future I will always edit the partion manualy, but somebody should
really fix this problem
