[Bug 1055093] [NEW] nm-applet openvpn icon still seen after suspend

2012-09-23 Thread Sandy Dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Login to openvpn using nm-applet.
2. Suspend your computer by closing the lid
3. Unsuspend your computer and log back in
4. See that the openvpn lock icon is still there - even if the VPN is not
connected
5. Connect to the VPN again.
6. See the openvpn lock icon does not disengage, and the only indication that
the VPN is reconnecting is flashing wireless majiggy.

What should be happening:
The openvpn 'lock' icon should not be showing after a suspend - the VPN is
disconnected. Otherwise, just make the VPN connect again, while showing the
connecting animation.

[Bug 1022349] [NEW] Ubuntu Software Center Hanging

2012-07-08 Thread Sandy Dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Software Center seems to hang after 5+ packages are in the
progress section.

Each time I click install on a package (after the 5 packages are already
in the progress section), the Software Center hangs for a while when
adding the package to the progress section.

The more packages that are in the progress section, the longer the hang
seems to be.

Eventually, when it reaches 30 packages in the progress section, the
Software Center occasionally crashes, and/or hangs permanantly.

The only way I would be able to run ubuntu-bug would be in nomodeset. Is
that fine, even though the bug involves graphical errors?

[Bug 899683] Re: 12.04 installation in VirtualBox crashed due to weird partitioning layout (No space left on device)

2012-04-14 Thread dolphinaura
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 220961 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220961

Are you saying that you chose the option in the picture attached?

The dynamically expanding option does not mean that the partition will
expand (i.e. beyond 8GB) when the disk is full. It simply means that the
disk will begin at, for example, 1GB, and will expand to 8GB as more
space is used.

Furthermore, the GParted screenshot just comfirms that the root
partition is running out of space (i.e. 19.60MB left)

[Bug 971011] [NEW] Compiz disables unity plugin on graphical errors

2012-04-01 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Release: Precise (12.04)
Version: 1:0.9.7.2-0ubuntu4

Whenever there are graphical problems with Unity-3D, compiz disables the
Unity plugin.

The next time (after recovering from the crash), Unity-3D will crash
upon login, and unity-panel-service won't start because the plugin isn't
enabled.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Cause a graphical error (i.e. Open the desktop by mistake while doing a
major package upgrade).
2. Log out, and log back into unity.
3. Find that Unity-3D won't start because unity-panel-service won't start due
to the fact that the unity compiz plugin is disabled.
4. Log back out, and go into Unity-2D
5. Install and run ccsm, put a checkbox next to the unity plugin.
6. Log out, and log back into Unity-3D.

A good way to demonstrate #1 is to get Precise Beta 1, and start
upgrading to Beta 2. In the middle, open lightdm, and start logging in.
This will most likely produce some form of graphical error, as your
system is half-upgraded.

What should happen:
Compiz should NOT be disabling the unity plugin. If there are graphical
problems, the user can log into Ubuntu2D by themselves.

[Bug 971214] [NEW] Unity taskbar leaves text from menus

2012-04-01 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: 12.04 (all updates installed)
Package version: 5.8.0-0ubuntu2

If you turn the taskbar 100% transparent, the text overlays from the
global menu never dissapear.

The first time you re-maximize a program from the unity bar, the text on
the taskbar is fine. When you hover over the taskbar to take a look at
the menu, the name of the program turns black, and the menu names go
over it. The name of the program is still easily visible.

This goes for any change of text in that area. Browsing to a page with a
different name has the same effect. As long as the program stays open,
the black text underlay remains.

After a while, the underlay is cleared, and it looks as it should.

Ive attached a screenshot of what is going on (as its hard to explain)

It sometimes happens even if the menu is not changed.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to compizconfig settings manager, and select the Unity Plugin
2. Under Experimental, set Panel Opacity to zero
3. While using a light background (makes it easier to see), open Firefox, and
hover over the menu.

Then, set the VLC audio output to ALSA.

To return pulseaudio back to normal...
[code]
sudo mv /usr/bin/pulseaudio.dead
sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio start
[/code]

If using ALSA instead of pulseaudio works, then pulseaudio is the
culprit.

have fun!

[Bug 626826] [NEW] Nautilus NETBIOS share resolving

2010-08-30 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus currently requires that the NETBIOS name of the computer be
resolved before it displays the computer.

This is a HUGE issue because many users cannot resolve the address due
to the fact that...

1. Some routers simply forward DNS requests to the ISP.
2. No Winbind installed. (no local resolver)

I believe that we should simply display the computer and its shares, if
we can find its IP address. This will remove the need to install winbind
and/or having a local DNS server.

[Bug 554935] [NEW] fontconfig corrupted fonts

2010-04-03 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fontconfig

This was initially reported as a KDE bug, but it was later determined to be a
fontconfig bug.
See - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233187 for origional bug report
Fontconfig version :2.8.0

The Antialiasing settings in System Settings- Appearance - Fonts
can cause font corruption, depending on the settings.

It occurs randomly, only for that particular character on that screen.
By character, I mean that for example, all Ys that are in the application are
corrupted.

This occurs if the antialiasing settings are set to enbled and with the
following combinations of settings

SubPixel Rendering: RGB | Hinting Style: None
SubPixel Rendering: RGB | Hinting Style: Slight
SubPixel Rendering: RGB | Hinting Style: Medium
SubPixel Rendering: RGB | Hinting Style: Full
SubPixel Rendering: Disabled | Hinting Style: Medium
SubPixel Rendering: Disabled | Hinting Style: Full

and does not occur with

SubPixel Rendering: Disabled | Hinting Style: None
SubPixel Rendering: Disabled | Hinting Style: Slight

Ive taken a screenshot, so please take a look -

[Bug 545642] [NEW] Lirc Locks up when opening

2010-03-23 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

I recently downloaded LIRC. The GUI let me set the manufacturer for the
IRC receiver (HP TSGI-IR01) and accompanying remote (HP is the only
physical identifier on the remote). At first I used the auto feature in
LIRC but with no response (the receiver has a LED that lights when I use
the remote indicating reception) . I closed LIRC and went online to
find some answers. I then realized I have a Media Center PC and the
remote itself has a Windows Media Center button on it. I'll try a few
manual options in LIRC. Upon opening LIRC my system froze as soon as
the LIRC window popped up. This is now a persistent issue. I've since
removed LIRC but would still like to try to get it going. I'm a

[Bug 543085] [NEW] External Drive Causing Boot Hang

2010-03-20 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

When certain models of Western Digital external drives are plugged in at
bootup, they cause the computer to occasionally hang at connect-
debounce failed, port x disabled

my thinking is that the correct kernel modules are not loaded before the
kernel attempts to access the drive.

at any rate, having a connection problem with an external drive should
not hinder/hang the boot process.

2010-03-19 Thread dolphinaura
+1.

This also affects my macbook.

the issue is a packaging one.

grub2 should depend on grub-pc | grub-efi
instead of grub-pc.

But then again, grub2 is a transitional package.

[Bug 533416] [NEW] Apt-p2p needs some promotion

2010-03-06 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

This is a wishlist/bug in apt-p2p.
Currently, apt-p2p is not very well know; its only known by people who have
been working with ubuntu long enough.
I believe that there should be an option in the software source of gnome to
use apt-p2p to make users informed that they have this option.

Apt-p2p is important in the fact that it decreases the load on the
ubuntu-servers, especially during upgrades.
If more people use it, apt-p2p can possibly become more popular, and therefore
more packages would be able to be downloaded using it.

In addition, Apt-p2p should have a fallback after timeout option where
it falls back to the ubuntu repository after waiting for a set amount of
time (timeout). This ensures that the packages/repository that the user
was trying to download will be downloaded, and will be added to the apt-
p2p pool. The next user will then have more chance of downloading the
package/repository from apt-p2p. This also prevents users from getting
hung on certain repositories where there are not many peers.

[Bug 533436] [NEW] Gnome-Display-Properties does not regonize monitor

2010-03-06 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

The Dell SE198WFP is not regonized in the display properties. Instead, it is
shown as a unknown monitor:
This may not be a big problem, and may be a wishlist, but it is not a lot of
effort to add a monitor to the detection list.
From http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8926208#post8926208

As you can see, nvidia xconfig regonizes the monitor as a Dell SE198WFP
as the OP says, it shows up properly in 9.04, but does not show up properly in
9.10

[Bug 505044] [NEW] Firefox 3.5.7 segfaults on youtube.

2010-01-08 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

When opening youtube on firefox 3.5.7. firefox loads part of the page, then
segfaults.
This is NOT a problem with the flash-plugin, as I have tested this both with
the x64 bit firefox + the x86 bit firefox.
Ive also tried removing the flash plugin altogether, with no change in the
segfault.

Running karmic with all updates as of Friday 8th, 9:50 EST (the update

[Bug 437193] [NEW] misleading message about GPG errors

2009-09-26 Thread dolphinaura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

When a new repository is added, and the GPG signing key for the repository has
not yet been imported, apt gives an GPG error telling me to do apt-get update.
However, that message is completely misleading because running apt-get update
will not solve the problem. Importing the GPG key will. The message should
instead tell the user to import the GPG key and/or give them instructions to do
this if the repository in question is a Launchpad PPA.
