[Bug 1766555] Re: openscad package missing from 18.04
it "failed to build", but in the link they say it ran out of virtual memory on their MIPS architecture build. i would guess what happened is that gcc on their build machine ran out of memory, on the file cgalutils.cc . It is actually pretty normal to have memory issues when building OpenSCAD on the files that use CGAL intensively. That is because CGAL (geometry library, www.cgal.org ) is a massive c++ template library which can use at least 1 Gigabytes of ram, during compile time (not run time), for some of its functionality, depending on optimizations and debug symbol options on the compiler. it can go higher with various extra options added to the compiler switches, like -O2 -g. Here is the log showing they crashed at cgalutils.cc: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=openscad=mips=2015.03-2%2Bdfsg-2%2Bb3=1516824703=0 What they also did was to use parallell make. You can see they have 'make -j4' right there on the log. So they were trying to build multiple files at once, alongside the massive CGAL file. That is going to also use more memory than necessary. Also it seems to be using gcc... clang uses a lot less memory than gcc. i am trying to figure out how much ram + swap they would have had on their mips build machine, but i am not sure how to figure that out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766555 Title: openscad package missing from 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openscad/+bug/1766555/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1128801] Re: Adding second graphics card causes infinite reboot loop for Ubuntu, but Windows boots.
This happened to me installing an no-name generic Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 pci-x into a Dell Optilplex OptiPlex 210L 32 bit machine. (Dell service tag FYF7Y91), which has an integrated Intel gpu using the i915 driver. There is no way to 'disable' onboard video but you can 'autodetect' added cards. I took a video of the bootup with my phone and basically linux reboots right after it tries to load the i915 driver. My workaround was to add i915 to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.cfg but it still didnt fix the overall problem. nomodeset works but the problem with adding 'nomodeset' is that this prevents nouveau from working at all. Read around the internet and it needs kms modesetting in order for it to work properly. If you use nomodeset, then X boots up with software rendering, it doesnt use the 3d graphics card at all. running 'glxinfo' will show gallium / softpipe / llvm. Installing proprietary Nvidia driver does not help either. I poked around some kernel logs and basically it looks like nouveau itself crashes and dumps a bunch of info. In the end I gave up and am going to try using a different card. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1128801 Title: Adding second graphics card causes infinite reboot loop for Ubuntu, but Windows boots. Public bug reported: According to https://help.gnome.org/users/orca/stable/howto_the_orca_modifier.html.en i should be able to open the Orca preferences and change my Orca modifier so that it will work on my laptop. My laptop does not have a keypad, and the 'insert' key is combined with Printscreen so that it doesn't work properly. Unfortunately the only way to open the preferences is to press the Orca modifier! catch 22. Orca needs to have a configurator panel in the ordinary place, (System Settings) like every other piece of system UI software does, such as the Brightness, the Power settings, the Sound settings, Appearance, Displays, Mouse/Touchpad, Language Support, etc. This is the 'obvious' place people will look for it.
