[Bug 1098421] Re: package linux-image-2.6.32-45-preempt 2.6.32-45.102 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Final Question: To keep old programs you grow fond of, how should Synaptic and Update Manager be set so it never uninstalls programs? In other words, Update Manager, 5 tabs. which boxes should be checked/unchecked? Synaptic: under Prefs, 6 tabs. Any boxes or value settings you might suggest to preserve this 'pristine' install? NOTE: Seemed Linux kernel upgrades always F'd OS up and trashed graphics drivers. Had to reinstall nVidia drivers every time. Kept copy in /home folder as backup. I got so used to it, it became routine. :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098421 Title: package linux-image-2.6.32-45-preempt 2.6.32-45.102 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1098421/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Last Updated by me: Saturday January 12, 2013 - Updates, SkypeMicrosoft black helicopter conspiracy's, trouble shooting done so far. This computer is my primary Audio Production/Video Production pc. PLUS- Often I do live DJ Broadcasting over the Internet. Using IDJC Internet DJ Console v0.8.4 (no Microsoft in the house since 2007) CPU runs about 90% of the time at 100% because of Processes "doodle (NICE= +10)", "python", "gvfsd-metadata". Even still, IDJC runs stable. GUI freezes. Drives me nuts. But still runs stable. *Thanks to Stephen Fairchild. idjc.sourceforge.net - Skype install gone, hopefully. Dec 24th 2012, I googled keywords "skype spyware". Coincidentally my '1 year Skype' subscription expired. Logged in bank account. SkypeMicrosoft had put a $56 yearly renewal fee -PLUS- $8.99 "International fee charge". I was absolutely livid. Assumed it ran out Christmas Eve. Moving forward, got Paypal/SkypeMicrosoft/Bank to credit back the charges. -OFF TOPIC: did you know Microsoft packed up, moved to Amsterdam, The Netherlands overnight? Just KIDDING! Logged in Skype.com/login. Except for Skype TOS, there is NO MENTION of Microsoft, Redmond, WA, a contact phone number/email address/etc or ANY Customer Service contact. Except a phone number in Holland and an email address. Guessing NOBODY calls them at International Rates... hrmm. SkypeMicrosoft DID MAKE GOOD on the credit. :) Was a very crappy Christmas present though. -Opinion- Microsoft bought Skype from eBay for $8.5 BILLION dollars, more money than God could afford -PLUS- same day, applied for patents on software to do, who knows. Sinister and other things(?) My impression is MS put a HUGE BUFFER between them and Skype. Possibly to avoid U.S. laws, while they record EVERY call, IM Text chat, USB Cam to "... deem using at Microsofts discretion..". No wonder Skype's free, MS makes kickass Linux version and very eager to get millions more to download the "Free" version. - Back on topic... i used 'Ubuntu Software Center' uninstalled Skype. NEXT: nuked /home/david/.skype Folder which it leaves behind. Logged in as "root". Checked, found another /.skype folder in ROOT Login! Jesus! what sinister things was /.skype folder doing in root? - Worth Mention: I HAVE NOT used any software Email programs FOR YEARS. (Thunderbird Mail, etc) But, found "pickup, sendmail, postfix, etc" Processes running past few weeks. After (fingers crossed) getting MS's spyware off that and this PC. Seems somewhat suspicious. I don't believe skype/MS has any bearing on this issue OR. could it? Shrugs - Steps I took since submitting this ticket: Deleted Virtual World programs Kokua/Imprudence and Firestorm Viewers, used for Second Life/OSGrid/Inworldz. (since I don't really need them on that pc). Hate sounding like a 'black helicopter conspiracy theorist'. With ms, you never know. >From Men in Black 3, "Don't ask questions about things you don't want to know >the answers to". [Bug 773309] Re: Process "doodle" runs nearly 100% CPU with IDJC causing freezeups
Friday July 15, 2011. I don't know enough yet to feel 'comfortable' messing around with Linux code. I'm using Ubuntu Studio v10.04 LTS 64 bit. IDJC still freezes with "doodle" and "Python" both taking turns randomly, yet with no predictability as to when they're going to use 100% CPU. To be fair, I've noticed IDJC on sourceforge.net has an upgraded version out now. I just bought a used Dell with 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB (4-256 MB RAM cards), Western Digital 80 GB HD for $225 US. I guess it had some version of Windows. Don't care. First thing I did was pop open the tower to see what it had for hardware. Found a phone modem. Took that out. Found an old NVIDIA graphics card. I googled it. Had 32 MB video RAM. That HAD TO GO. I replaced with a ATI Radion 512 MB video RAM card that I'd bought from Dell years, before I got educated on Graphics Cards. Also took an old Dell, i'd paid $1400 for, that I gut for parts, pulled its WD 80 GB HD out. Figured out the used Dell's IDE cable out. Said HD 1 and HD 2 on the cable. I thought hmm I wonder if?... I took my ($1400) Dell's 80 GB drive. Made sure i left the jumper pin set to CS. No jumper pin on the other 80 GB drive. Hooked up both drives to IDE cable. Turned on PC, error came up, which I expected. Went into CMOS and set everything to what I thought it would want. Next, took old v5.1 Knoppix CD LIVE Run to use GParted. Why? Because GParted in v5.1 lets you do anything you want. Deleted all 10 partitions between the 2 drives. Later, put in Ubuntu Studio v11.04 LTS 64 bit CD. Told the (installation wizard, assuming for newbies) to Partition the 2nd drive 100% ext4. Then went back and let Ubuntu 'decide' to partition 1st HD. It put 79 GB Linux native ext4 and 1 GB Linux Swap. Formatted both drives, saved changes. Then after a few screens had gone by, I noticed it wanted you to pick from 5 selections. It didn't have a HELP button or explain the difference, so I picked the 1st choice. Video Production (or something to that affect). Did about 150 updates it wanted. Next Project: Going to attempt to install IDJC/JACK. Curious if it'll run on limited RAM of 1 GB. I was surprised it didn't download and install ATI's software to tweak graphics card settings. Ubuntu's historically been great about installing NVIDIA and ATI's software. It showed something ATI had installed in Synaptic Package Manager but I look everywhere, including EDIT MENUS in case it hadn't 'checked' a box to force it to show up in Main Menu. Hmm. Guess I'll have to find in Synaptic and install, if i want to see what mischief ATI is up to. More post in a couple months after I've installed IDJC/JACK and possibly purchased more RAM and a different sound card. Because, the 'installed' sound card is junk! I will test and observe 'doodle' and 'Python' processes and note it here. [Bug 773309] Re: Process "doodle" runs nearly 100% CPU with IDJC causing freezeups
UPDATED: Wednesday May 11, 2011 I've noticed 'doodle' kinda starts and stops at different times of the day with no specific times. Yesterday, May 10, 2011, because of a major screwup on my part running EasyTAG v2.1.6, I corrected the mistakes over a 4 day span. I'm guessing (and hope) 'doodle' is indexing files, finding renamed mp3's and updating them, much like Windows XP Pro did in the background WHEN the computer was idle. Yesterday, when I DJ'd in IDJC in Second Life, again, the GUI froze, made buttons unclickable. I let it go for 2 hours since I was in Playlist 1 on RANDOM (shuffle) mode. Checked processes. AH HA! doodle up to 98% CPU w/NICE +10, Python up to 100% on occasion NICE= 0, IDJC processes all run NICE= 0. Yet the stream ran perfect at 192 kbps 44.1 kHz with people listening. Aware and knowing these processes were running and I couldn't safely stop (KILL PROCESS) IDJC and risk damaging the program, it hit me. I started a song on Playlist 2.. Voila! The GUI because active (unfroze). Then put Playlist 1 to ALTERNATE (song finishes then fades to Playlist 2). YAYY!! I finally got control of the GUI. Allowed Playlist 2 set to MANUAL (stops at end of song) to finish song. Went to Encoder and KICK INCUMBENT to safely stop the stream. With IDJC now idle, left System Monitor open to observe. "doodle" had stopped. Python was still busy adding the 7,000 songs I had (hours before) ordered it to Playlist 2. Waited another hour or so until Python stopped. Checked and verified Playlist 2 had reached a ZZ Top mp3. Safely shut the program down. CONCLUSION: seems 'doodle' is not CPU friendly while running critical programs i.e. IDJC/JACK. WHY am I telling you this? Because for 2 years i used SAM Broadcaster v3.2.2 in Win XP Pro SP3. In Prefs, SAM had a "Priority" slider, by default set to HIGH. That meant whatever other programs are running, SAM bullied the CPU for highest possible priority. I kinda wish IDJC did that -or- doodle had a higher NICE value, like say +20. I may get the courage sometime and manually raise doodle's NICE value. I'm always paranoid of breaking this system - because I don't ever want to go back to MS Windows. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773309 Title: Process "doodle" runs nearly 100% CPU with IDJC causing freezeups -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574728] Re: With large library, doodle database fills up hard drive
I too am a musician and online DJ. Ubuntu Studio v10.04 64 bit. I noticed Pulse audio NICE= -11, IDJC processes all NICE= 0, doodle= +10. Whatever 'doodle's' doing, perhaps its indexing over 7,000 songs on internal 640 GB or external USB 80 GB drives. What concerns me (in my bug report) is doodle sometimes causes IDJC's GUI to freezeup - can't click any buttons, runs jingles/liners ALTERNATE from Playlist 1 to 2 and vice versa. Meanwhile, the online audience is wondering wtf is the dj doing(?). Its rather embarrassing and frustrating. Sometimes I also run Frostwire, several Firefox windows at the same time, but those programs don't seem to lock up. I'm puzzled as to what 'exactly' doodle is -and- what its doing. I share your frustration and am glad I came across your bug report. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs Last updated Friday April 29,2011. Ubuntu Studio v10.04 64 bit. I'm using IDJC (Internet DJ Console) v0.8.4. Downloaded from sourceforge.net to use the Shoutcast protocol. Broadcasting a stream into Second Life and Inworldz virtual worlds. Often I check System Monitor. Noticed process called "doodle" occasionally uses nearly 100% CPU. I don't know if it came bundled with IDJC/JACK -or- built into the OS. When adding songs to Playlist1/2 I noticed Phython also uses most of the CPU, until its tasks are completed. I googled 'doodle' and found out its like a file search program of sorts. Problem is doodle may possibly be causing freezeups while i'm broadcasting live over the internet. This is quite embarrassing and frustrating. Start station URL, wait a few seconds, forward arrow to the next station URL. 1 "fades" into next URL, but gets stuck playing BOTH URL's. 1st URL does NOT fade out. Both computers worked perfect, with those settings on Ubuntu Desktop v9.04 32 bit. ,,,Hence why I submitted Bug Report. [Bug 233836] [NEW] Right-Click On Link default change
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 -Premise: I like to right-click web page link, open menu, select Open In New Window. Typically have 8-12 FF windows open at once. -Bug: (Ubuntu bundled) FF upgrade to v3.0b5, pop-up menu wants to open default (whatever) under Edit, Preferences, Applications, Mail To: menu. -Workaround: Edit, Preferences, Tabs, select radio dot "a new tab". Check boxes "Always show the tab bar" -and- "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately". The workaround works, only difference is every open FF window web page is open within a Tab. The sound card and front panel controller bay are Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum. Just found an addendum insert in the setup guide mentioning user must upgrade Quick Time. [Bug 165172] Re: gpodder freezes after edit Preferences
Oddly, the issue seems resolved. My guess is this: Sunday 12/02/07 when starting the PC, I noticed during the boot up process text that said similar to this "disk has not been checked in X amount of days. Linux is checking disk starting right now". Again, that is NOT the exact text, but is this an automatic Check Disk similiar to MS Windows 2k/XP check disk? If YES, wondering if this "check disk" possibly fixed the gpodder issue with no user intervention on my part?
