I got the same error during installation "[ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: unknown variable 'log_slow_verbosity=query_plan'" Then found solution. [Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when "Shut Down" chosen from GUI
I have the same issue. When I shutdown my PC via GUI the "ubuntu-screen" appears and nothing more happens. But this bug can be reproduced only if Opera browser open during shutdown process. If I close Opera before shutdown PC, it power off successfully. P.S. I also have fglrx driver installed. P.P.S.
