This is a problem that have boinc on my PC since a few years. I use ubuntu 12.04 with an ATI GPU (Radeon HD4830). The workaround with "sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart" works fine. You can find some Bugdescriptions in random forums. I think the problem is boinc starts too fast. Boinc should start 30 seconds or one minute after the Ubuntu is FULL rebootet. The bug can be closed. in German:Offenbar hat Ubuntu beim Upgrade auf 11.10 bei der Druckereinstellung etwas geändert. Allerdings nur bei der Druckfunktion in evince. Die Schaltfläche "Druckqualität" stand früher immer auf "automatisch" und jetzt stand die Schaltfläche auf "600x600 DPI high". Diese Auflösung gab es früher bei meinem Drucker niemals. Daraus resultiert offenbar auch der verschmierte Druck. Als ich die Druckqualitäteinstellung zurück auf "automatic" gestellt habe, war der Druck ganz normal und so scharf wie bei allen anderen Anwendungen. Vielleicht könnten ja die verantwortlichen Programmierer dieser Schaltfläche durch ein kleines automatisches Update, die Einstellung generell wieder auf "automatisch" zurückstellen, denn ich denke, dass wohl auch andere Benutzer so ein ähnliches Problem durch das Upgrade hatten bzw. haben. I give you an examplescan from an print - made with evince (the original file was an pdf). I want not to publish the original file, because the originalfile contains personell datas. Every print out of evince is so bad and the printer sounds very different when printing evince-files . (der Drucker klingt auch beim Drucken von Dateien aus evince ganz anders). I have delated the printer and added the printer again: the same problem, prints out of firefox an other programs are good, only prints out of evince are bad. See the attachment. The workaround with "sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart" works fine. This is the first time that Boinc recognizes my GPU. I think it would be the easiest way if Boinc would be started at boottime with a delay of one minute. That should solve the easiest problem.
