[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
@arighi i completely agree with manolo above and have also stated it before above, this bug has to be considered critical for the installer (all the *buntu installers) because on installer launch you just get a total kernel lockup/crash with no possibility to proceed. in fact i still don't understand why a total kernel crash with stack corruption on certain hardware is not classed as critical in itself (ie this bug itself should have importance critical). as manolo rightly says, an ugly crash on install attempt means any prospective new user trying any *buntu installer on any hardware with this trackpad will quite likely simply give up on *buntu, which is hardly what *buntu as a whole should want. imho there definitely needs to be new installer iso point releases at some stage before 22.04 once the working kernel is officially released. at the very least all ubuntu flavours need to amend their release/install notes with a new "Known issues" item for "Installer and live session" that details this kernel crash, which should be updated (on fixed kernel release) with the work-around (disable trackpad/trackpoint, install, upgrade kernel, re-enable trackpad/trackpoint) to get the system installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945590 Title: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945590/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
well let's be clear here: none of the workarounds suggested in this thread are fixes, nor are they meant to be, they are workarounds only, to allow some functionality until the actual fix arrives. the actual fix will be a new kernel package release that has the underlying stack corruption bug fixed. that said, it would be great to get an update here from the bug assignee Andrea, or someone on the ubuntu kernel team. we fully realise the bug is in the upstream linux kernel, and has to be fixed there, but an update on how that fix is progressing, or even a pointer to the upstream kernel bug report would be really great thanks. ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945590 Title: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945590/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
@randomdave, in case you didn't, i think you have to disable the trackpoint as well as the trackpad. some people have reported that just disabling the trackpoint but leaving the trackpad enabled works, but you lose the trackpad buttons and have to configure tap-to-click. for others it only works if you disable both. hope that helps.

[Bug 1923398] Re: steam client window all black
some extra info: this is on kubuntu 21.04 in an x session. if i change the session to a wayland one, the issue goes away. so the above mentioned crash in steam's libcef.so is triggered under x but not under wayland, which might suggest a bad interaction with the x graphics stack. in my case the x driver in use is the one for amd gpu's. unfortunately i can't cure this by switching to a wayland session by default because of Bug #1922438 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1922438) which makes firefox unusable in a kubuntu wayland session. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1923398 Title: steam client window all black To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/steam/+bug/1923398/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106063] Re: MASTER: Computer will not boot after 2.6.20-14.24 kernel upgrade
same problem here. i'm on an asus m2n-e motherboard and using the generic i386 kernel 2.6.20-14.23. stalls (for a long time) during boot and drops to busybox prompt, reading back shows that my sata drives are not being correctly supported anymore, so the system tries to map some scsi-generic (cardreader) drives instead of my hdd's. every previous fiesty kernel booted fine on this box! i notice some sata driver changes in the kernel's feisty changelog...there were several people on ubuntu+1 with the same problem earlier. -- MASTER: Computer will not boot after 2.6.20-14.24 kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

looked through kern.log, 2.6.20-14.22 booted fine, 2.6.20-14.23 (the one that won't boot) leaves no trace in kern.log... -- MASTER: Computer will not boot after 2.6.20-14.24 kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
