[Bug 270861] [NEW] gdm has incorrect line in gdm.conf

2008-09-16 Thread emorris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

I upgraded to gdm 2.20.8-0ubuntu1 today, but noticed an error in gdm.conf.
The upgrade gave me the option to keep my existing gdm.conf or use the new one.
I chose to keep the existing one, but noticed the following diff:

-PreFetchProgram=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmprefetch @/etc/gdm/gdmprefetchlist
+PreFetchProgram=/usr/lib/gdmprefetch @/etc/gdm/gdmprefetchlist

However, /usr/lib/gdm/gdmprefetch is correct, and /usr/lib/gdmprefetch
doesn't exist.

 Status: New

2008-06-16 Thread emorris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox produces strange error messages if it is left open while the system
updates.
So, wouldn't it be a good idea for it to ask you to close it before updates
take place?
I know people should look through the updates and check what they need to
close, but when you've got 20 or so, I'm sure most people would click Install

[Bug 240358] Re: Firefox produces strange error messages if left open while updating

2008-06-16 Thread emorris
Yes, this was when upgrading from 3b5 to rc1.

I didn't save the error message I'm afraid, and I didn't poke about too
much to see what worked etc.

However, the error message appeared when trying to load any web page,
whether local or on the net.

Also, firefox wouldn't close with the close button, but I had to kill
it. After restarting it, it worked fine.

If I can get someone to do the same process and get an error message,
I'll post it here.

following happened:

When opened a new window or tried to load any page, a tiny window
(1.png) loaded. If I resized this (2.png), there was no content in it.

Loading the print dialog, print preview, download manager didn't work at
all and adding a bookmark didn't display the dialog correctly.

Please note: this bug isn't about the errors after upgrading, since they
are fixed after a restart, but more the fact that the user should be
alerted to restart firefox after an upgrade.

[Bug 37768] Re: gnome-volume-manager mounting Partition, while working with GParted

2008-05-10 Thread emorris
This is potentially very serious. I needed to do the following:
- Delete a logical partiton.
- Move a different logical partition.
- Resize the extended partition that they were in.
- Create a new primary partition.
However, somewhere in the middle, all the partitions mounted, resulting in the
moved logical partition becoming unreadable.

[Bug 221196] Re: Cannot change keyboard layout on gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-05-06 Thread emorris
Since the actual Hardy release, I no longer get an error message, but
the layout still does not set correctly.

Layout: United Kingdom
Variant: Default

I set the layout to this ^, and all appears fine, but when typing, some
keys produce the wrong character, as if it were the US layout. I tried
logging out and in again, but this made no difference.

Please see the attached screenshot. The keyboard layout is selected as
United Kingdom, but in the test text box, I typed \@ (double quote,
backslash, at) but it appears as @| (at, pipe, double quote).

Also, this was done using a live CD. On my system which I upgraded from
Gutsy, I do not have a problem.

[Bug 221196] [NEW] Cannot change keyboard layout on gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-04-23 Thread emorris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I run gnome-keyboard-properties, and go to the Layouts tab. I click on
add, and choose my layout and variant. When I select the variant I
notice that the preview pane does not load, but shows the left-overs
from the menu.

When I click Add, a dialog box appears with the following:
---
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
-

The tool then returns to the first screen, but using the test text box,
the layout is not correct.

[Bug 219203] [NEW] Corrupted icons on the panel

2008-04-18 Thread emorris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Some icons on the panel often have corrupted images. This normally
affects the volume control applet and Display Geometry switcher
(grandr), but occasionally affects other applets.

See the attached example. The text on the left is the user switcher, and
on the right is the volume control and geometry switcher applets.

This does not occur when using Compiz.
