[Bug 397350] Re: unable to play audio CDs on SATA dvd/cd player

2009-07-28 Thread encmonkey
Ok, after much playing around, I found if I put the Lenovo's SATA ports
into compatibility mode in the bios, I can at least audio cds. The
price of this joy is now eject is extremely flaky at best and typically
no longer ejects cds which breaks a good number of my scripts so now
they need tender monitoring care..

Gah..

BTW - YMMV on this trick. It didn't work at all on my big server or
desktop machine.

[Bug 397350] [NEW] unable to play audio CDs on SATA dvd/cd player

2009-07-09 Thread encmonkey
Public bug reported:

Howdy!

I can't get 9.04 64 bit (Desktop or Server) to play a regular audio cd
to save my life. Depending on your tastes in music, you might think
this is a good thing :) This is true for my laptop (Lenovo X301), my
server (has 2 sata dvd drives), and a workstation (also has a sata
drive). Data disks work completely as expected, I'm able to burn dvds
and cds. But if I put a regular audio disk in, I get the following (for
example) on my laptop:

What I expected to happen - put in an audio cd and be able to either play or
rip it in some fashion.

What happened instead - errors above.

I can't believe I'm the only person seeing this kind of behavior. The
closest thing I was able to find was a bug posted against fedora 11.
I'm using very generic clean installs on both systems. Any ideas? Is
this a known issue and my google-fu is just sad?

[Bug 362797] Re: bonding module not loading

2009-04-18 Thread encmonkey
dpkg -S doesn't find anything for either /etc/modprobe.d/arch/x86_64 or
x86_64.dpkg-bak.

The contents of the file are:

r...@kvm0:/etc/modprobe.d/arch# more x86_64.dpkg-bak
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc

alias binfmt-0064 ia32_aout

alias bond0 bonding
options bonding mode=0 miimon=100 downdelay=200 updelay=200

Also, I just noticed that my /etc/modprobe/aliases file is also now been
converted to a dpkg-bak:

r...@kvm0:/etc/modprobe.d# ls
aliases.dpkg-bakblacklist.conf blacklist-watchdog.conf
archblacklist-firewire.conf options.dpkg-bak
blacklist-ath_pci.conf blacklist-framebuffer.conf

Is there a pre/post script running to back up some stuff that may not
have completed or not run correctly on the upgrade? I know the aliases
file also has the bonding information in it (and I think that's where
I'd originally edited the file to configure it):

r...@kvm0:/etc/modprobe.d# tail -10 aliases.dpkg-bak
alias plip1 plip
alias slip0 slip
alias slip1 slip
alias tunl0 ipip
alias gre0 ip_gre

alias usbdevfs usbcore

alias bond0 bonding
options bonding mode=5 miimon=100

Thanks-
ian

[Bug 362797] [NEW] bonding module not loading

2009-04-17 Thread encmonkey
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded from 8.10 64bit to 9.04 RC via do-release-upgrade -d.
Prior to the upgrade had a working bond0 interface defined in
/etc/network/interfaces composed of eth0 and eth2. After the upgrade,
the bond won't take.

Further looking into things revealed that the bonding module is not
loading at boot - a change from 8.10.

The bonding module loads fine from the command line - I'll prolly add it
to /etc/modules for now to get things rolling.

Is this a known/expected change?

Thanks,
ian

[Bug 362797] Re: bonding module not loading

2009-04-17 Thread encmonkey
I might be answering my own bug here, but it looks like the upgrade
renamed /etc/modprobe.d/arch/x86_64 to x86_64.dpkg-bak which is causing
it to miss the modules there.
