[Bug 1834779] Re: equivs-build: fatal error occurred while parsing debian/changelog
This indicates an error in your input file. I'm guessing the parenthesized number in the Source: field is what causes the parse error, but I'm not in a place where I can check this. equivs-build uses the data in your input file to populate a number of templates which are required in all Debian packages. As of the current Emacs sources, https://github.com/emacs- mirror/emacs/blob/master/lisp/term.el#L1472 contains (defvar term-term-name "eterm-color" so there really is an explicit setting in the upstream sources which hardcodes this. [Bug 1285864] Re: Missing dependency: emacs does not pull any package providing /usr/share/terminfo/e/eterm-color
I can confirm that M-x xterm in emacs24 sets TERM to eterm-color when launched out of the box on Ubuntu 15.04. (In the regular terminal, it's simply xterm.) Whether this should be fixed in the packaging (make it not set eterm- color) or dependencies (pull in ncurses-term) is an open question, though. Inside xterm, e.g. "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow dictionaries-common" is a way to trigger the bug. With ncurses-term installed, I get a "nice" colorful ncurses dialog box; without it, dpkg-reconfigure aborts. Another obvious workaround is to specify a nongraphical Debconf front- end. sudo DEBIAN_FRONTEND=readline dpkg-reconfigure -plow dictionaries-common ** Changed in: emacs24 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1285864 Title: Missing dependency: emacs does not pull any package providing /usr/share/terminfo/e/eterm-color To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs24/+bug/1285864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1466139] Re: .doc file name mapping should be more careful
** Summary changed: - Emacs converts ascii files to unmutable images + .doc file name mapping should be more careful ** Description changed: + It is not uncommon for *.doc files to contain plain ASCII text. In this + case, the default behavior of Emacs is less than ideal, as described in + more detail in the problem report below. Perhaps the .doc file name + mapping should contain some additional heuristics, and fall back to + plain text if the file is not an Office document. + + Original problem description follows. + + - + Today I downloaded the sources of secure delete. Inspected some files with vi and some with Emacs 24. Did what I wanted to do, started to listen to my favourite internet radio station, wanted to cite on Facebook a citation from the secure delete docs. I wanted to open the file "secure_delete.doc" (a pure ASCII text file) in Emacs 24 and: "Whenever you see this buffer I'm going to make a picture of it and you won't be able to edit anything." Haha, no this really reminds me of the monkey face during the Ubuntu installation. But don't make a monkey out of me because Emacs 24 is going to be replaced with svi an extensible text base line editor yet to be written. Emacs' open file is broken: - - whenever it sees a file with the extension or post fix ".doc" it treats it like a Office document. - - it takes an image of it - - and shows you the image - which for a pure text file shows you the contents of the file as an image in that gone editor + - whenever it sees a file with the extension or post fix ".doc" it treats it like a Office document. + - it takes an image of it + - and shows you the image - which for a pure text file shows you the contents of the file as an image in that gone editor They should use the /file/ utility to check for the file type - but showing an unmutable picture of pure text is like making a monkey out of the user. Was that joke great? (And never forget: we could hire a trained monkey to do your job.) Viper is retreating. Emacs is gone. I need a new editor. No more discussions or comments on this no no. Alternatively, if you are able to reproduce the problem and generate a similar log file, please examine the dpkg log file to obtain the file name of the generated temporary file, and attach that here instead. Once the requested information is supplied, the status of this bug report can be changed back from "Incomplete" to "New" (or ideally even "Confirmed", assuming the log file reveals what went wrong). [Bug 1383150] [NEW] Inexplicable "Record" button in orage clock
Public bug reported: In my XUbuntu 14.04 (updated from 12.04) I have added an orage clock to my panel. When I left-click, it shows the calendar, with a menu "View > Show globaltime" which shows the world clock. If I right-click on one f the clocks to bring up its preferences dialog, it is not wide enough to show all toolbar buttons. Instead, there is a down-arrow on the right on the button toolbar with two entries, "Record" and "Quit". The "Record" button is completely inexplicable. Making the window wider reveals the button and hovering over the revealed button (finally!) reveals a tooltip which says "set the timezone of this clock to be local timezone". I would like to propose two changes: 1. Fix the description of the button when it is not directly visible in the button toolbar 2. Create a less bewildering icon for this action (Ideally also "3. Don't have button toolbars; they are the spawn of the devil" but I guess this is not the time and the place for GUI policy advocacy.) (Also, IIRC there used to be a less arcane way to show the world clock; but my panel is wacky after the dist-upgrade, so maybe that's just a local problem here.) era@fspre1776:~$ apt-cache policy xfce4-datetime-plugin xfce4-datetime-plugin: Installed: 0.6.2-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 0.6.2-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 0.6.2-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status era@fspre1776:~$ apt-cache policy orage orage: Installed: 4.10.0-1 Candidate: 4.10.0-1 Version table: *** 4.10.0-1 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status era@fspre1776:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release:14.04 ** Affects: orage (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xfce4-datetime-plugin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: orage (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1383150 Title: Inexplicable "Record" button in orage clock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/orage/+bug/1383150/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1379176] [NEW] "Clear" button has no effect in Settings > Window Manager > Keyboard tab
Public bug reported: I wanted to disable some pesky keybindings which I never use except by mistake. I found that many (but not all) of the default keybindings cannot be disabled by clicking the Clear button. It does work as expected if I add a keybinding to a previously unbound window manager action and then press Clear to remove it again. If you click the Edit button, it waits for you to press a new key combination to bind the action to. This is a separate, smaller dialog window which also has a Clear button. This button doesn't work, either. Steps to repro: - Open the Window Manager prefs: xfwm4-settings - Select the Keyboard tab (alt-K) - Highlight "Workspace 1" which is bound to "Ctrl+F1" by default - Hit the Clear button Expected outcome: - The Ctrl+F1 binding should be cleared Actual outcome: - It's still there Workaround: - Rebind to another key: Click Edit and hit an obscure combo like Shift+Ctrl+Alt+dead circumflex - Then clear this new keybinding by clicking Clear I don't see any general pattern to which defaults cannot be cleared. A general observation is that the ones towards the end of the list more often seem to exhibit this problem, but it's not all of them. $ apt-cache policy xfwm4 xfwm4: Installed: 4.11.1-2ubuntu2 Candidate: 4.11.1-2ubuntu2 Version table: *** 4.11.1-2ubuntu2 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release:14.04 ** Affects: xfwm4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1379176 Title: "Clear" button has no effect in Settings > Window Manager > Keyboard tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfwm4/+bug/1379176/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
