[Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-06-16 Thread Errol Terblanche
Running Ubuntu 20.04 and I have the same issue with Firefox.
Watching Netflix works fine, till I go to some sites that has a tendency to
crash audio. Then all audio goes garbled. Even doing an audio test in settings
gives a garbled echo result.

When audio is crashed like this the pulseaudio service uses high CPU
even when no audio is being played.

Opening a terminal and running "pulseaudio -k" to restart pulseaudio
seems to fix the issue without closing Firefox or all the media apps.

[Bug 1033188] [NEW] export html - tasks and Gantt views are not aligned

2012-08-05 Thread Errol Kowald
Public bug reported:

Using:
Planner 0.14.4
Ubuntu 10.04
Firefox 14.0.1
Opera 12.00
IE 8.0 (under WinXP)

At my normal zoom level in Firefox (14.0.1), 18 lines of tasks
corresponds to 19 lines of Gantt chart. Changing the level of zoom,
alters this relationship.

I would expect that the task name and the Gantt chart to be in alignment
when exported to html, regardless of zoom level.

Opera 12.00 is correct at 100% zoom, but not at 60, 90 or 160 %
IE 8.0 (under WinXP) gets it right at normal zoom, but when zooming out, it
exhibits the same behaviour.

I had a new machine yesterday to install a fresh Ubuntu. While this
problem can be replicated on my two machines... this was not the case
with the new machine. It would seem then that the problem is video-
hardware-related and that whether tweak or background settings is used,
given some hardware context, the problem will always occur! The forum
posts (see above) show some other workarounds other than having to
resort to redoing an install.

[Bug 991695] Re: Logging in... not logging in

2012-05-01 Thread Errol Atterbury
It doesn't seem to be a ubuntu-tweak problem after all... whether you
use it or background-settings to configure a desktop wallpaper, the
problem will eventually occur.

There is however no consistency... on occasion one of the other std
wallpapers may also lock up the login process as well. If one configures
the greeter screen to have the same background as the current desktop
which is an image from ~/Pictures, then the and the login process will
also lock up. Using gradient colors instead of a wallpaper is one
surefire workaround.

Some folk are experiencing a greeter problem.
When one logins, the greeter will say, Logging in... but it never does so and
simply stays on that screen.
In looking at what's going on, it would seem that ubuntu-tweak may have a role
to play in that situation... but we can't be sure.
It would seem that reverting to gdm is a solution.
Please look at those posts and if there is info that we can provide, I'm sure
that those who have posted will do so.

[Bug 145920] Re: crashes on startup

2011-07-06 Thread Errol Kowald
Gürkan,

 I downloaded cenon.app_3.93-1_amd64.deb from
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/cenon.app/ and opened it in the
Package Installer, GDebi 0.6ubuntu2.
It immediately reported the status, Error: Dependency is not satisfiable:
gnustep-back0.18 (= 0.18.0)
The same happens with cenon.app_3.83-1+b3_amd64.deb
I'm using Lucid (64bit)

What am I missing?

Re: [Bug 224552] Re: Knetworkmanager not working properly in Hardy

2008-05-17 Thread errol
It's in KDE4 only. I still cannot launch manual configuration wthrough
Knetmanager. The request for a password comes up but after entering the
password, nothing happens. No warning box, no error note, nothing.

My 2c input says ot may be connected to the fact that NONE of my
commands typed in the konsole work, unless a complete string is typed.
See the thread I wrote (and replies received here). It's just a thought.

[Bug 224552] [NEW] Knetworkmanager not working properly in Hardy

2008-04-30 Thread errol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

This is a report on my workaround to the problem described. I still
cannot get knetmanager to work manually. I have tried this on two
different computers - one at home with direct internet connection and at
work on a computer connected to a domain.

I wrote this question on several forums and as I have now solved the problem
i.e. successfully loaded Kubuntu with internet connection onto my computer. As
the problem (from my point of view) is no longer I want to detail the problem
and the solution I used for the benefit of others AND to thank the many people
on these various forums that gave advice which helped me and set me on the
right track. So first of all thank you all!
The problem I came across:
I installed Kubuntu and was unable to set up my static IP address in order to
connect to the internet. I tried every possible way that I knew or was advised
to try on various forums.
The main problem was with knetworkmanager. I could not get it to allow me to
get into manual setup. What happened was that when going to knetworkmanager and
trying to operate manual setup I was asked for my password which I typed in.
The request closed and then NOTHING happened. No reaction at all from the
manager. So I was unable to setup my static IP that way.
I then tried to write my static IP in /etc/network/interfaces. My static IP
starts with 10.* etc. but the static IP number I got when restarting my
computer was 198.* etc. No connection to what I had tried. All this was on a
wired connection.
In desperation I installed Ubuntu and had NO problems with setting up my static
IP. I prefer the Kubuntu interface and programs so I tried this:
I then installed KDE4 using
sudo apt-get install KDE4
After seeing that KDE4 worked properly I went to the next step an completely
installed Kubuntu from within Ubuntu
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
I am very satisfied with the results although I haven't tried out everything
yet. I particular I haven't tried knetworkmanager but when I get home from work
I will do just that.
I intend to send this letter as a bug notice to Kubuntu if I can find out
how(where) to do this.
I hope this can help others as I was helped here.

 Two things:

Install thunderbird-gnome-support and see if that helps the
situation. Even if you are running Kubuntu, it has been reported to fix
this problem before (from bug 173271).

If that doesn't change anything, try the suggestion here:

 That is from bug 146944.

I installed thunderbird-gnome-support. I was then able to hyperlink

Greg what other info do you need from me?

Further clarification.
The problem was here from the first installation of Feisty and the
upgrade to Gutsy. All my installations were in Kubuntu with KDE3. I
didn't start with Ubuntu and then convert to KDE. I installed KDE4 only
a few days ago. The problem with Hperlinks was there through all these
versions and changes until your solution of installing
thunderbird-gnome-support.

[Bug 192513] [NEW] no hyperlink works when in Thunderbird

2008-02-16 Thread errol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I am unable to activate hyperlinks (if activate is the correct word).
Clicking on Hyperlinks in my program doesn't open up the link. Whether I'm in
an e-mail letter which has a URL or I'm in a list with some hyperlink, pressing
on the hyperlink doesn't do a thing. It doesn't even open my browser! The only
way I can get the hyperlink to go to a site written is to copy/paste the URL
after opening my browser. I tried holding the control key while clicking the
hyperlink but got nothing.
More info:
I'm using gutsy gibon with Firefox as my default browser and Thunderbird as my
e-mail program. Both are defined as such in system settings/default
applications. As I said it isn't only URL hyperlinks that don't work. For
example I have a spreadsheet with contacts. I used to be able to click a
particular e-mail address in the spreadsheet and a write page would open in
Thunderbird. Now - nada! When placing the mouse above any particular address it
says the this is a mailto:; cell but nothing happens when clicking.
The only hyperlinks that are working are those within ANY site on Firefox. Once
on the internet all hyperlinks work within my browser.

Re: [Bug 192513] Re: no hyperlink works when in Thunderbird

2008-02-16 Thread errol
It all started when I re-installed linux (whether version Feisty or
Gutsy). The problem was first noticed when I first installed gutsy with
a new installment (not upgrade). As I had other problems with that
version I re-installed (with format) the Feisty version and then
upgraded to Gutsy. With all these installations (Feisty and Gutsy) I
wasn't able to use Hyperlinks.
This was about a month ago. Before that I had Dapper Drake installed and
had no problems.

Greg, another observation. There is NO hyperlinking in ANY program other
than my browser (firefox). I tried with Konqueror, in a spreadsheet with
a mailto: column. In none of these does the hyperlink work. Only when
I'm in the browser does it work.

Re: [Bug 192513] Re: no hyperlink works when in Thunderbird

2008-02-16 Thread errol
I obviously didn't explain myself. I can navigate in any browser
including Konqueror. What I meant was that even if I make Konqueror my
default browser, hyperlinks don't open it (not only Firefox). The
problem seems to be one of any application that isn't a web browser not
opening hyperlinks. I noticed it in Thunderbird as that is the main
source of non browser hyperlinks As I said the non-opening of
hyperlinks occured in a spreadsheet as well where I have a mailto
column that used to open a mail writer with the relevant address.
Errol

Greg Grossmeier wrote:
Errol, Konqueror is a web browser also.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, you can not navigate any
 website in Konqueror?

[Bug 83143] Re: does not automatically start the wired connection due to missing link beat

2007-11-30 Thread Errol
Is there a reason this bug has been marked invalid? I have been
searching the web for an hour or so and I am finding a substantial
number of people that are stuck with this problem.

The symptoms seem to be consistent -- networking starts on boot just
fine as long as they are not using network-manager.

This seems to be a step backward for many people.

What can be done to re-open this?

[Bug 63391] Version problem in synaptic for amd64 version of xen-ioemu

2006-10-01 Thread Errol Martin
Public bug reported:

Synaptic won't let me install xen-ioemu--3.0-amd64. When I try to mark
