[Bug 674138] Re: "Global" appmenu breaks sloppy focus
>From what i've read on this problem the only simple solutions that i see are: 1. As others have suggested, have an option to show the menu in the window when not maximized. 2. Give the option to wait a little (200ms - 500ms) before changing focus to another window. This gives plenty of time to move the mouse to the appmenu on the top from any position on a big screen. The focus change delay is so small that it'll be imperceptible for most of the users. I personally, would prefer option 2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674138 Title: "Global" appmenu breaks sloppy focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/674138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Andrea many many thanks for the explanation. Nevertheless i have one more question. Firefox doesn't have any menu any more, and both firefox and thunderbird have unity menu integration in quantal. [Bug 861061] Re: compiz 3d performance regression
Yes indeed, that setting doesn't make a difference for me too. I have also tried a number of other solutions (like changing SwapbuffersWait in xorg.conf) that also didn't work. Based on the above, IMHO, i believe that the problem is something that changed inside compiz between Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861061 Title: compiz 3d performance regression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/861061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 861061] Re: compiz 3d performance regression
I also see exactly the same behavior with Oneiric's Compiz and Radeon HD 3200 (AMD 780G chipset's integrated graphics). Compiz is a lot slower/laggier than it was in 11.04. Testing with glxgears (leaving the glxgears window in its default size) on latest Ubuntu 11.10: Compiz is at around 33-42 FPS Mutter is at a stable 59.xxx FPS Ubuntu's 11.04 Compiz was also at 59.xxx FPS (the screen's refresh is at 60 fps). There is a chance that the fix in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/763005 solves it, but i don't have a way to test it until a PPA of the fix for Oneiric is build. I think that this is a very important regression because for the systems that it affects, Compiz/Unity becomes unbearably stuttery/slow.
[Bug 736080] [NEW] Unity extra keymappings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity First of all, i'm approaching unity usability from a power user's perspective. I mainly use the desktop for coding, and i need it to be as fast as possible. Unity has been surprisingly usable, but i needed to add the following shortcuts to various of compiz's shortcut settings. The following shortcut proposals, aim for consistency and increased desktop managing speed. Proposed shortcuts for changing windows: Unity desktop already supports Alt-Tab and Shift-Alt-Tab. I've added in the compiz's switcher plugin the following shortcuts: Alt-ScrollWheelUp Alt-ScrollWheelDown These work in the same way as Alt-Tab and Shift-Alt-Tab Proposed shortcuts for changing desktops: Unity already supports Control-Alt-Left and Control-Alt-Right shortcuts: I've added in the compiz's deskwall plugins the following shortcuts: Control-Alt-ScrollWheelUp Control-Alt-ScrollWheelDown These work in the same way as the Control-Alt-Left and Control-Alt-Right shortcuts. Here i should mention that i find it immensely easier to have my desktops in a 4x1 arrangement. Expos plugin shortcuts: Getting a quick idea of what goes on in the various desktops is very important. So i've added the top-right corner as a trigger for the desktop expos. Right now the unity's expos shortcuts are in my opinion wrong. If a user accidentally triggers an expos, then it isn't obvious that he should double click on a desktop to zoom into it. As it is a lot faster to just single click a desktop to zoom into, i've changed the zoom-in action to require a single click. For moving windows, i've set the Alt-Button1 shortcut in the expos plugin. Alt- Button1 is also used when moving windows in the regular desktop so this change also increases consistency. Scale plugin shortcut: I've found out that setting the SpecialKey(windowskey)-Button1 shortcut to trigger the scale action, significantly increases Unity's usability. In this way when a user presses and holds the SpecialKey, and then presses and holds the Button1, he can in a very fast way change windows or if he wishes open a new application from the Dock. I have found that above shortcuts do not conflict with other shortcut actions, Improve consistency of the desktop, and make it immensely faster to use for me (a power user). For regular users, these shortcuts won't get in the way. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: unity First of all, i'm approaching unity usability from a power user's perspective. [Bug 418797] Re: wireless driver karmic
I had the same problem. I also upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and my atheros 5001 didn't work at all. Iwconfig had exactly the same output. Turns out its a bug in Ubuntu. The problem is that in: /etc/modprobe.d There is the file: blacklist-ath_pci.conf Which has in it this: # For some Atheros 5K RF MACs, the madwifi driver loads buts fails to # correctly initialize the hardware, leaving it in a state from # which ath5k cannot recover. To prevent this condition, stop # madwifi from loading by default. Use Jockey to select one driver # or the other. (Ubuntu: #315056, #323830) blacklist ath5k Which blacklists atheros 5k wifi cards throwing the responsibility for the to Jockey. The problem is that Jockey handle at all atheros cards in 9.10, so there is no way to enable the wifi card. By commenting out the "blacklist ath5k" line as such: #blacklist ath5k everything starts to work beautifully. I think that the blacklist- ath_pci.conf should be deleted whenever an update to 9.10 happens. -- wireless driver karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418797 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 140604] Re: 32-bit gtk applications don't load modules or theme engines properly ("wrong ELF class" message)
Brian Rogers THANK YOU for this. It solved all the problems with the 32-bit firefox and 32-bit thunderbird that i have here (ontop of 64bit Gutsy). I've tested the suggestion and it works better than anything else. Everywhere else all the suggestions are to edit the startup scripts and insert an: export GTK_PATH=/usr/lib32/gtk-2.0 The result is that when running a 32bit-thunderbird, whenever i try to open a pdf file, evince comes without a theme at all because the GTK_PATH points to the 32bit libraries (which obviously 64-bit evince cannot use). The suggestion given above: sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/2.10.0 /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/i486-pc- linux-gnu solved all the 64-bit and 32-bit problems i had with gtk.
