[Bug 1651433] Re: bluetooth mouse random disconnects

2017-02-26 Thread fINTiP
Dell Precision 7510 with mx master here. Same bug. Didn't knowingly
update my kernel. Worked fine in precision 3510 with 14.04 for a year.
Was working well, not sure what changed for me. Incredibly irritating.

[Bug 1474173] Re: cannot start pulseaudio daemon after adjusting libGL.so.1 settings for skype

2015-07-14 Thread fINTiP
UPDATE:

I finally just reinstalled, and thought based on other solutions in that
same thread that installing skype before bumblebee might fix my issues.
So, I reinstalled. Installed skype.

Skype works! Sound works! No config options even needed!

Restarted computer.

Pulse is broken.

Skype doesn't work.

Installed Bumblebee. Normally, this fixes my 'brightness' fn key
functionality (which doesn't work out of the box on ubuntu, I think it's
a nouveau bug). This time, it doesn't (including after a restart).

I try 'optirun skype', the command to run it under the nvidia card on
bumblebee, according to yet another answer on that page. I get this
output, suggesting, as I thought, that bumblebee isn't running:

@:/etc/X11$ optirun skype
[ 869.631200] [ERROR]The Bumblebee daemon has not been started yet or the
socket path /var/run/bumblebee.socket was incorrect.
[ 869.631265] [ERROR]Could not connect to bumblebee daemon - is it running?

this is my log from nvidia:

kajo@kajo-6530:~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep nvidia
[ 6.225] (==) Matched nvidia as autoconfigured driver 0
[ 6.225] (II) LoadModule: nvidia

[ 6.231] (EE) Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)
kajo@kajo-6530:~$ grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I still kind of wonder if I install bumblebee first, but then use
`optirun skype` for it, and don't change any system options, if I would
be fine, but I'm loathe to reinstall my system yet again.

2015-07-13 Thread fINTiP
This was me listing the same bug with verbose alsa output, instead,
before I realized it was pulseaudio. I ended up reinstalling at the time
because I got an SSD. I had gotten the same problem after installing
skype and going through the same solution, but at the time I didn't
realize that skype was the cause. It was marked as answered, but it
never was. (I went through that trouble shooting step this time, and it
did not fix my issue):

Have also tried purging pulseaudio from instructions on another ubuntu

[Bug 1474173] [NEW] cannot start pulseaudio daemon after adjusting libGL.so.1 settings for skype

2015-07-13 Thread fINTiP
Public bug reported:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/648069/if-i-fix-skype-according-to-
another-au-thread-my-systems-sound-breaks-on-resta

Installing skype from the partner repositories. Try to start Skype. It
fails. Search online. Found someone else with same error message.

Follow instructions in first answer with similar error reported in
console. This was what I typed:

update-alternatives --display i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf

sudo update-alternatives --config i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf

(switched to /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf (option 1) from
these options:

` SelectionPathPriority Status

  0/usr/lib/nvidia-304-updates/alt_ld.so.conf 9701 auto mode
* 1/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf  500   manual
mode
  2/usr/lib/nvidia-304-updates/alt_ld.so.conf 9701 manual
mode
`

then ran `sudo ldconfig`.

Fixes skype issues! Sound works, skype works.

Later:

Restart computer.

Damn. No ability to adjust sound through pulse, only through
alsamixer... the sound icon in the top right is greyed out, and system
settings sound stuff has no effect... and, on top of that, skype sound
is broken for playback, as well (though it does at least start, which is
did not do before I used the AU fix listed above).

ps aux | grep pulseaudio returns nothing, and pulseaudio -D doesn't work

Anyone able to explain what's going on?

output from running pulseaudio:

E: [pulseaudio] ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to open module
/usr/lib/pulse-6.0/modules/module-bluetooth-policy.so:
/usr/lib/pulse-6.0/modules/module-bluetooth-policy.so: wrong ELF class:
ELFCLASS64
E: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to open module module-bluetooth-policy.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Module load failed.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Failed to initialize daemon.

The bluetooth is a red herring, I have that intentionally disabled on
restart. That has not broken the sound before, it wasn't until skype
that it broke.

noticed that 'additional drivers' had me set to nvidia proprietary
driver now, so tried to change that back to X.org Nouveau... That was
hard, it wouldn't let me (I would restart and it would be right back on
nvidia). Finally it let me be on nouveau. But I had installed and setup
bumblebee previously... Maybe that's the source of my problem? But sound
used to work on nouveau, even... So frustrating...

bumblebee. Suggested troubleshooting steps have a higher chance of being
attempted if instruction is given on how to switch X to reroute through

[Bug 1472897] [NEW] cannot adjust brightness E6530 15.04 fresh install

2015-07-09 Thread fINTiP
Public bug reported:

Press Fn + up/down arrow.

Expected to happen: brightness goes up or down; notification in top
right of brightness going up or down.

Actually happened: brightness stays unaffected; notification does appear
and respond correctly, but lies.

Cannot adjust brightness using function key combo. Shows the
notification as if I am adjusting it, but screen stays on max
brightness. Brightness Lock app doesn't adjust brightness either.

When I switch to proprietary drivers, brightness adjustment does work.
When I turn off the nvidia card and use the intel card, brightness
adjustment works. But with the intel card only I don't have hdmi port
support, so no triple monitor support. And with the proprietary drivers,
I get horrible, horrible bugs, including one that made it impossible to
get into my system until I modified bios settings related to the video
card.

[Bug 1467346] [NEW] Partition tool of 15.04 install script bricked SSD, conflict between UEFI/Legacy boot might be a factor...

2015-06-21 Thread fINTiP
Public bug reported:

So, I don't fully understand the differences between 'legacy' boot and
'efi/uefi' boot modes, but what I do know is that I had my bios set to
'legacy' boot by default, it seems.

I was running windows 8.1 on my Dell E6530.

I tried to install ubuntu 15.04.

In the boot menu, I had to select to boot off of the USB in UEFI mode.

I tried to create a partition using the install script's tool for doing
so.

I had 80gb out of 240gb free. I tried to reduce the 240gb partition down
to 200gb, and make the remaining 40gb into an ext4 partition.

I initially got a pop up telling me that it seemed my other OS was not a
UEFI installed OS, so I may have trouble with grub or something. I hit
'back', I think, and got some I/O errors. I hit ignore, as several alert
windows popped up notifying me of I/O errors.

I don't remember all the details of what is next. I think I tried to do
it again, and then clicked skip this time, or something, and then got
several I/O errors popping up, one after another.

Finally, I got an alert that install had failed.

When I restarted my computer, it was gone. No ability to boot into
windows.

Go ahead and liveboot into ubuntu, figuring it's just a matter of
restoring the original partitions.

Talk through it with a guy on IRC. Powercycle. He confirms with me that
it isn't a faulty SATA port through a series of steps.

Note that when I do the liveboot, I see the verbose booting read 'ata
error -=16' repeatedly or something... That's the closest I get to
seeing the computer even try to identify it.

A lot of people seem to scoff initially, saying you can't brick a drive
this way. But some bug somewhere caused something. The idea of a random
drive failure at just the moment I started doing a partition seems very
unlikely.

This is an OCZ ARC 100 240gb. I purchased it a few months ago new. It
has served me well and flawlessly until this moment.

And it was $100, and I am very sad to be lacking it.

Luckily, most of my files were kept on an external drive; still, it had
all of my software, and many, many hours of work in its own right.

2009-11-19 Thread fINTiP
I don't know about the original post, but the summary fits my
descriptions in 9.10... Do I have the same bug?

Muting does not mute the built-in mic; it's always on. Period. Only
current options are using headphones or muting speakers Otherwise, I
get horrendous feedback. When I first installed, at boot up it was awful
until it registered my keyboard mute command.

[Bug 49521] Re: Screen locks up black on laptop lid close.

2008-09-11 Thread fINTiP
I also have this problem.

I'm using a Dell Latitude C640. I don't know what kind of video card I
have. I can find out later... doing this right before I go to bed.

If I set the laptop lid to turn screen off, or to go to sleep, when
closed, I get a glitched up screen that changing TTY's does not fix
(have not tried other work arounds). The computer is still running- I
opened a terminal blind and ran hibernate one time (sudo pm-hibernate),
but when I tried to bring back out of hibernate, it wouldn't load for
over 15 minutes- got stuck on the Ubuntu Studio load screen.

Sleeping at all is not functional.

Hibernate is glitchy, and when it does work, takes forever to come out
of. Sometimes it tells me that the hibernation failed.

As stated above, using 8.04. Also, my load screen use to be at a much
higher resolution- now it takes up the whole screen. I don't know what
could have caused that to change... the problems were not affected that
I noticed (though who knows), so that's a separate question.

So even if the idea of a test account were as easy as

1. Go to intpforum.com
2. Log in on the top right with: Username llama password themystery.
3. click UserCP on the top left
4. Try to send a Private Message (PM).
5. Observe.

You wouldn't do it?

Just in case you change your mind, I already made that account with that
password, so... if you felt like trying, those instructions work.

A lot simpler than some other steps one has to go to for bug
replication, you know. :\

[Bug 218869] Re: 8.04 Hardy: OpenJDK Java Web Start doesn't work with Firefox 3 if use default settings

2008-06-08 Thread fINTiP
Hello? Has anyone seen this yet?

Typing javaws into the terminal brings up a certificates page (this is
one example of the problem that is mentioned above, albeit simplified).

It should bring up the Java WebStart control application.

[Bug 234233] Re: Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.

2008-05-30 Thread fINTiP
Unfortunately, I have not run in to this problem in any other scenario.
Especially frustrating is that the main referenced instance of the bug
only shows when using the private messaging feature, not when just
posting to a thread.

If I created a test account for your use, and then wrote a step-by-step,
would that help?

I have been made a moderator on this forum since I first indicated the
bug, so I can give any assistance needed.

[Bug 218869] Re: 8.04 Hardy: OpenJDK Java Web Start doesn't work with Firefox 3 if use default settings

2008-05-27 Thread fINTiP
I believe I have the same problem... I previously used to just type
javaws into the terminal to open up Java Web Start, so I could then
select from the applications I have installed; now it opens a
certificates window. When I try to type javaws
http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban/jnlp; (as per instructions at
gokgs.com, which have worked on every other system I have tried it on),
I get an error message:

netx: Launch Error: Could not launch JNLP file.
(java.lang.NullPointerException null)

I don't know what netx is, or why it's trying to take over this
operation...

Help is greatly appreciated.

[Bug 234233] Re: Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.

2008-05-27 Thread fINTiP
I downloaded epiphany to check.

Unfortunately, the main problem mentioned (concerning the intpforum.com
PM feature) is untestable, as the site has used up its bandwidth for the
time being.

However, the cursor issue on the webcomic is not replicable in epiphany.

It does still happen in firefox.

Also, I just checked, and in epiphany, clicking the non-editable words
on this page does not cause the cursor to show up there as it does in
firefox.

Hope that helps.

.jnlp, not /jnlp.

apologies.

[Bug 234233] [NEW] Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.

2008-05-23 Thread fINTiP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0-gnome-support

I thought it might be website-specific the first time I ran into it at
intpforum.com, which has a particular variation of the error that causes
me to not be able to click on any part of the mini text editor
[wysiwig?] for Private messages when typing- the only way to 'click' to
any part of the text is for me to highlight something else, and then
middle click to paste (I'm on linux) to a location.

Copy Paste does not allow this same feature; i.e., if I right click
somewhere and click 'paste', it will just paste the content wherever the
last area to be typed at was, not where I right clicked.

I can't use the arrow keys to get to a place either.

And the flashing text cursor shows no correlation to what I am actually
typing- it sometimes shows correlation to where I have clicked, usually
not even that. The cursor can be flashing at the beginning of a line,
and stay there, while my text continues to pass it...

Anyways, in what appears to be another variant of the problem, I noticed
a cursor (albeit a GIANT one) appear on the right side of the webcomic
on THIS page (but not on *any* of the 204 previous ones, or the one
following it... I just read through every single one in one sitting...)
http://wastedtalent.ca/index.php?view=205 .

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04

contact me on the ubuntu forums if need be, I won't respond to this
email... fINTiP on those forums.

2008-05-23 Thread fINTiP
Just to clarify, that only applies to typing Private Messages on that
forum (it's a php forum, I don't know if that can be replicated at any
forum, or if it's something particular to that forum). It doesn't apply
to typing in the threads, that is rendered fine in firefox.

[Bug 234233] Re: Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.

2008-05-23 Thread fINTiP
xD

I just noticed that any non-editable text on *this page* can be clicked,
and the cursor just continues blinking there... it almost seems as if
the actual text is being treated that same way by the cursor in the PM
box?

I'm terribly suspicious this is some kind of very weird setting, and not
a bug, but I'm fairly certain there's no comprehensible reason for the
cursor to appear when I click between the 'e' and the 'f' in 'firefox'
on the bottom of this page, where it says:

Report another bug about firefox-3.0 in ubuntu

That should help, I think.
