[Bug 1474173] Re: cannot start pulseaudio daemon after adjusting libGL.so.1 settings for skype
UPDATE: I finally just reinstalled, and thought based on other solutions in that same thread that installing skype before bumblebee might fix my issues. So, I reinstalled. Installed skype. Skype works! Sound works! No config options even needed! Restarted computer. Pulse is broken. Skype doesn't work. Installed Bumblebee. Normally, this fixes my 'brightness' fn key functionality (which doesn't work out of the box on ubuntu, I think it's a nouveau bug). This time, it doesn't (including after a restart). I try 'optirun skype', the command to run it under the nvidia card on bumblebee, according to yet another answer on that page. I get this output, suggesting, as I thought, that bumblebee isn't running: @:/etc/X11$ optirun skype [ 869.631200] [ERROR]The Bumblebee daemon has not been started yet or the socket path /var/run/bumblebee.socket was incorrect. This was me listing the same bug with verbose alsa output, instead, before I realized it was pulseaudio. I ended up reinstalling at the time because I got an SSD. [Bug 1467346] [NEW] Partition tool of 15.04 install script bricked SSD, conflict between UEFI/Legacy boot might be a factor...
Public bug reported: So, I don't fully understand the differences between 'legacy' boot and 'efi/uefi' boot modes, but what I do know is that I had my bios set to 'legacy' boot by default, it seems. I was running windows 8.1 on my Dell E6530. I tried to install ubuntu 15.04. In the boot menu, I had to select to boot off of the USB in UEFI mode. I tried to create a partition using the install script's tool for doing so. I had 80gb out of 240gb free. I tried to reduce the 240gb partition down to 200gb, and make the remaining 40gb into an ext4 partition. I initially got a pop up telling me that it seemed my other OS was not a UEFI installed OS, so I may have trouble with grub or something. I hit 'back', I think, and got some I/O errors. I hit ignore, as several alert windows popped up notifying me of I/O errors. I don't remember all the details of what is next. I think I tried to do it again, and then clicked skip this time, or something, and then got several I/O errors popping up, one after another. Finally, I got an alert that install had failed. When I restarted my computer, it was gone. No ability to boot into windows. Go ahead and liveboot into ubuntu, figuring it's just a matter of restoring the original partitions. Talk through it with a guy on IRC. Powercycle. He confirms with me that it isn't a faulty SATA port through a series of steps. Note that when I do the liveboot, I see the verbose booting read 'ata error -=16' repeatedly or something... That's the closest I get to seeing the computer even try to identify it. A lot of people seem to scoff initially, saying you can't brick a drive this way. But some bug somewhere caused something. The idea of a random drive failure at just the moment I started doing a partition seems very unlikely. This is an OCZ ARC 100 240gb. I purchased it a few months ago new. It has served me well and flawlessly until this moment. And it was $100, and I am very sad to be lacking it. [Bug 49521] Re: Screen locks up black on laptop lid close.
I also have this problem. I'm using a Dell Latitude C640. I don't know what kind of video card I have. I can find out later... doing this right before I go to bed. If I set the laptop lid to turn screen off, or to go to sleep, when closed, I get a glitched up screen that changing TTY's does not fix (have not tried other work arounds). The computer is still running- I opened a terminal blind and ran hibernate one time (sudo pm-hibernate), but when I tried to bring back out of hibernate, it wouldn't load for over 15 minutes- got stuck on the Ubuntu Studio load screen. Sleeping at all is not functional. Hibernate is glitchy, and when it does work, takes forever to come out of. Sometimes it tells me that the hibernation failed. As stated above, using 8.04. Also, my load screen use to be at a much higher resolution- now it takes up the whole screen. I don't know what could have caused that to change... the problems were not affected that I noticed (though who knows), so that's a separate question. -- Screen locks up black on laptop lid close. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0-gnome-support I thought it might be website-specific the first time I ran into it at intpforum.com, which has a particular variation of the error that causes me to not be able to click on any part of the mini text editor [wysiwig?] for Private messages when typing- the only way to 'click' to any part of the text is for me to highlight something else, and then middle click to paste (I'm on linux) to a location. Copy Paste does not allow this same feature; i.e., if I right click somewhere and click 'paste', it will just paste the content wherever the last area to be typed at was, not where I right clicked. I can't use the arrow keys to get to a place either. And the flashing text cursor shows no correlation to what I am actually typing- it sometimes shows correlation to where I have clicked, usually not even that. The cursor can be flashing at the beginning of a line, and stay there, while my text continues to pass it... Anyways, in what appears to be another variant of the problem, I noticed a cursor (albeit a GIANT one) appear on the right side of the webcomic on THIS page (but not on *any* of the 204 previous ones, or the one following it... I just read through every single one in one sitting...) http://wastedtalent.ca/index.php?view=205 . I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 contact me on the ubuntu forums if need be, I won't respond to this email... fINTiP on those forums. .L ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Fri May 23 02:13:50 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 Package: firefox-3.0 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: firefox-3.0 Uname: Linux 2.6.24-16-generic i686 ** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 234233] Re: Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.
Just to clarify, that only applies to typing Private Messages on that forum (it's a php forum, I don't know if that can be replicated at any forum, or if it's something particular to that forum). It doesn't apply to typing in the threads, that is rendered fine in firefox. .L -- Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 234233] Re: Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not.
xD I just noticed that any non-editable text on *this page* can be clicked, and the cursor just continues blinking there... it almost seems as if the actual text is being treated that same way by the cursor in the PM box? I'm terribly suspicious this is some kind of very weird setting, and not a bug, but I'm fairly certain there's no comprehensible reason for the cursor to appear when I click between the 'e' and the 'f' in 'firefox' on the bottom of this page, where it says: Report another bug about firefox-3.0 in ubuntu That should help, I think. .L -- Flashing Text cursor does not correspond to actual typing location, or appears randomly where it should not. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
