[Bug 152022] Re: [gutsy] KDE Basket crashes on startup

2007-10-27 Thread fhackenberger
I tested your basketrc. The configuration does not cause any problems on
my system. I suspect it is something in ~/.kde/share/apps/basket or
something in the environment basket is running in. Could you please
check if basket works when logging in with a fresh user account?
Alternatively you could temporarily move ~/.kde/share/apps/basket
and~/.kde/share/config/basketrc somewhere else and try to run basket. If
basket works fine in one of these scenarios it is your configuration in
~/.kde/share/apps/basket and I would urge you to post it here. If basket
crashes with the error you posted previously it is something in your KDE
environment and we don't need the data in ~/.kde/share/apps/basket.

The html files in ~/.kde/share/apps/basket/baskets/basket*/ and the
~/.kde3.5/share/apps/basket/baskets/baskets.xml file contain all your
data. Before posting it just edit those files and replace strings
containing private data with placeholder strings.

Cheers,
  Florian

[Bug 152022] Re: [gutsy] KDE Basket crashes on startup

2007-10-25 Thread fhackenberger
As the latest upload of basket to gutsy was on 10-07, the bug is
certainly still present in gutsy-release. Luke: Could you please pack
your ~/.kde/share/apps/basket and ~/.kde/share/config/basketrc into a
tarball and post it here? If there is information in your basket which
you don't want to publish, please copy ~/.kde/share/apps/basket
somewhere as a backup and try to remove as much information manually
before preparing the tarball, while making sure the bug is still
reproducible.

[Bug 155346] Re: NetworkManager loses connections, creating connections take a long time

2007-10-24 Thread fhackenberger
I can partially confirm this regression with an Intel 2200 Card. The
behaviour here is as follows: After resume from suspend to ram, the
first connection attempt succeeds but NetworkManager disconnects a few
seconds later. The second attempt succeeds and the connection is stable
for hours. Please find a relevant snippet from /var/log/syslog attached.

[Bug 121895] Re: knetworkmanager systray right-click and left-click behaviors have swapped places

2007-10-15 Thread fhackenberger
Please update the status of this bug. I'd argue that it represents a
serious usability problem. The main purpose of network-manager-kde
(gutsy name) is to enable a user to connect to a network. The most
obvious thing to do would be to left-click on it. Therefore the list of
available networks must be shown on left-click and not on right-click.
The status information is meaningless to most users, therefore it should
pop up on right click.

If the maintainer of network-manager-kde cannot fix this bug before the
gutsy release, just drop me a note and I'll do that myself.

Cheers, Florian

[Bug 44961] Re: Regression: Hibernate with radeon driver -> garbled screen

2007-07-06 Thread fhackenberger
Sorry for taking so much time to post my reply, I marked the mail as
TODO but forgot about it. Since there are so many laptops with ATI card
and working hibernate functionality out there (my T42 works fine too), I
would conclude that it is an issue with this specific laptop. It seems
to be broken in many ways (loading yenta_socket with default parameters
hard locks the machine). I don't think a workaround for this specific
machine would make a lot of sense, as it is a rare model (Gericom
Blockbuster XL something) and only sold in Germany and Austria AFAIK.
Please mark as WONTFIX if you desire.

Cheers

[Bug 81418] Re: firefox deadlock / freeze / hang on startup

2007-01-25 Thread fhackenberger
Attached is a better backtrace using the firefox-dbgsym package as
suggested on: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

Please note that this backtrace has been generated using the 2.0.0
version of firefox since there is not -dbgsym version of the 2.0.0.1
package yet. Also note that the backtrace is a bit different and that
the program has not deadlocked completely, but at least one thread is
polling for something, while the others are either deadlocked or waiting
for the polling thread to succeed and signal them.

Hope this backtrace helps you tracking down the problem.

[Bug 58498] Re: Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs

2006-11-07 Thread fhackenberger
Confirmed. The problem is that the /bin/sh symlink to bash got replaced
by dash for performance reasons. To resolve the bug, just edit
/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/maxima_detect and change to first line to
#!/bin/bash

This possibly affects all scripts in /usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/

Could the package maintainer please fix the package and push the patches
upstream. If a script is not compatible with sh (uses bash specific
features) it has to point to /bin/bash. Therefore this is not a bug in
Debian/Ubuntu, but rather an upstream problem.

[Bug 50136] Re: oooqs eats 100% cpu

2006-10-27 Thread fhackenberger
Proposed patch, please review and apply if it solves the problem (it
does on my installation). The problem is that openoffice seems to fork
new processes repeatedly on start-up and the parents exit() afterwards
(shell script wrappers I suppose). oooqs2 connects the void
KProcess::processExited signal to the preloadInstance() slot, which
checks if a soffice.bin process is running and starts openoffice if not.
Unfortunately openoffice takes a while to start-up completely and
soffice.bin seems to be one of the processes which are forked later on
during start-up (by the openoffice start-up scripts probably). Therefore
preloadInstance() thinks openoffice is not running and executes a new
instance. I simply delayed the check for 10sec, on receiving the
KProcess::processExited signal. Apply and enjoy.

[Bug 57958] Re: KDE 3.5.4 mounting using HAL gives "unknown error occured"

2006-09-07 Thread fhackenberger
I digged a little deeper and found out that the "unknown error" is the error
message returned by the DBUS method call. I have tried to imitate KDE ([1]) and
used dbus-send to send an Unmount message to hal. Here is the command (the id
of the device is of course specific to my device):
$ dbus-send --system --print-reply --type=method_call
--dest='org.freedesktop.Hal'
'/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_4457_59A1'
'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Unmount' array:string:''

If the hal-system-storage-mount and the hal-system-storage-unmount hal
script is present and the device was mounted using the media io slave
(or pmount-hal, which even works without the hal-system-storage-mount
script), then the call succeeds. If the hal-system-storage-unmount
script is missing, the command returns "unknown error". This leads to
the conclusion, that the scripts have to be included in the hal package.
But even if these scripts are there, unmounting using the media io slave
still does not work.

Could someone please confirm this bug?

Here is the code from KDE (search for "QString HALBackend::unmount(const
QString &_udi)")

[Bug 57958] KDE 3.5.4 mounting using HAL gives "unknown error occured"

2006-08-28 Thread fhackenberger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-kio-plugins

I'm using kde 3.5.4 from the repositories listed at
http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php Since upgrading to 3.5.4, the
media:/ ioslave lost it's capability to mount pluggable drives. It returns "an
unknown error occured". I tracked the issue down to missing HAL scripts:
hal-system-storage-cleanup-mountpoint hal-system-storage-eject
hal-system-storage-unmount hal-system-storage-cleanup-mountpoints
hal-system-storage-mount

As soon as I copy these scripts (e.g. from the hal_0.5.7.1-0ubuntu4
package) to /usr/share/hal/scripts/ mounting works. However unmounting
still fails silently (the io slave still shows the green triangle and
the drive is still mounted according to "mount"). The issue is
definitely with the hal version dapper provides, since KDE 3.5.4 changed
the handling of pluggable drives. Could someone please fix the hal
package in dapper and release an update? It makes KDE 3.5.4 quite
unusable for unexperienced users.

[Bug 54029] Package/security updates download size is too big

When downloading updates for Ubuntu, the size of the updated .deb files
is way too high. We have to provide something similar to deltarpm, to
produce delta debian packages. An Ubuntu user who is on dialup is
definitely not able to install security updates, as the download size of
these updates is just too much for a dialup line. This is true for users
