[Bug 34902] Re: Ralink Wireless legacy drivers (rt2500 rt61 rt73 rt2570) USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC
Well quite a surprise for me today. I got so fed up with it all, I decided to dump network manager and go back to the 'old way' by just hacking the configs. (since the files were already in /etc/networks) i did not touch them. I uninstalled network-manager and network-manager-gnome and rebooted. After a reboot, I noticed that the wireless driver had started to work again. The first time since the issue a few weeks ago. Out of curiousity, I checked out System -> Administration -> Network and lo and behold, the network icon was back to wireless and activated. (no idea why network manager is still here..) I had an issue with the hard wired link (eth0) though. This is back to the main issue I had when I first got the machine. I reinstalled network-manager and network-manager-gnome and everything works for me now. Even eth0 and wlan. Glad (for me at least) that my problem is resolved. Now to see whether the machine locks up after a while. -- Ralink Wireless legacy drivers (rt2500 rt61 rt73 rt2570) USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The effect of my problem is that the application starts, but you cannot do anything with it except close it. You can go directly to some pages, with --show-page=effects for example, but then it only presents you with something to click on and then blank windows from there on. You cannot actually confirm the changes. So here goes.. System: Linux darkstar 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux Gutsy, upgraded from Feisty. However I could not click on anything but down arrow seemed to have selected something, which brought up a blank window, to which I pressed Enter. It did change the effects. However, subsequent tries with the same command results in: "Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'. Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager."
