[Bug 1935770] Re: [Sound Output Built in Speaker to HDMI] No auto switch from Speaker to HDMI and back
Some times I do the following: I connect my laptop to a screen with HDMI cable and in the settings set audio output to the HDMI. Later I disconnect the HDMI cable without doing anything to the sound settings and turn off the PC. When I turn on the PC again it thinks that the sound should still go to the HDMI, even though it's no longer connected. Going in to the sound settings the Output Device drop-down is blank, so it obviously knows that the HDMI is disconnected, but it just doesn't make any sound. That's the main issue I have. Not switching to HDMI sound on connecting the HDMI might be the best default, I'm not sure, but at least you might have some other preference for where you want your sound to come from when you connect it. But when you disconnect, the sound can no longer come from the HDMI, so you never want it to keep to the HDMI output, you always want it to switch to something else. My intuition about what should happen when you connect HDMI: If the current output is trough built in speakers it should automatically switch to HDMI. If the current output is trough mini-jack or other output (meaning the person is using a headset or external speakers), it should keep the current setting and not switch to HDMI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1935770 Title: [Sound Output Built in Speaker to HDMI] No auto switch from Speaker to HDMI and back To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1935770/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 520546] Re: Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2
I seem to have almost exactly the same bug, and it's been bothering me off and on for many months now. The step to reproduce in the latest comment here from @anders works for me. (I only checked 'sudo setupcon --force') The only differences that I have is that 1) Alt + F2 doesn't send me to a terminal, but to the GUI (and if I'm already in the GUI then it opens the run dialog as you'd expect) and 2) Ctrl + Alt + F-buttons still work during this bug for me. This is the kind of bug that makes me think twice before recommending Linux to non-technical people (which to me is the most important people to recruit), so I'm really hoping it will get fixed soon. Thank you all very much for your work! This bug has now stopped me from installing Lubuntu 17.04 beta 2 and both Cinnamon and LXDE version of Linux Mint 16.10. [Bug 1531316] Re: Totem in full screen crashes Xorg
Sure, I can do that if it doesn't matter that: 1. That is "normal" Ubuntu, not Ubuntu Gnome. 2. I'll run it from a live USB. Will all the conditions still be there to be sure that if Totem in full screen doesn't crash Xorg there it will not do it in my real life scenario either? [Bug 1531316] Re: Totem in full screen crashes Xorg
Thank you for helping me out here, Christopher! I've never reported an Xorg bug before, so I appreciate the patience :) I did what you asked, hope it helps. Not sure if it matters, but wanted you to know that the whole process ended with this error message: (process:2757): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged. Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged. Hope you still got all you needed. (btw I was warned that I was sending private info, so maybe this bug should be set to private?) Also: Are you sure that this should be marked as a low priority bug? If a less technically inclined person than me finds that they can't watch movies in full screen in the default video player in their distro, they might turn straight back to Windows/Mac, and tell everyone they know how terrible this "Linux thing" their friend got them to try is… Just a thought. I've tried playing both mkv and avi files in Totem in a almost totally newly installed Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 64 bit, updated to Gnome 3.18 with the Gnome Staging PPA. [Bug 1296176] [NEW] [Notebook W840SU Series] suspend/resume failure
Public bug reported: All I know is that I used my laptop on battery power until I got a notification saying that the battery level was critically low and the machine was automatically suspended. After plugging in the power and turning it back on again I got this error message asking me to submit a report. NB: While the machine was suspended, before pluging in the power line, I removed the secondary harddisk from the laptop. This is probably not related, since the harddrive was not even mounted at the time the machine was suspended. But I mention it just in case. Sorry, I'm very new to this. How do I find the correct maintainer[0] to contact? Thanks Joseph! Doing what you asked did not help. [Bug 667508] Re: Shift+Del and replace files crashes/hangs NE
Previously I said: "It seems like it happens every time I try to delete something permanentely." But I have now found that I was wrong. It seems rather that it happens every time I try to do anything with a file that prompts Nautilus to ask me a question. Because I have recently tried to open a file where I'm asked if I want to run it, run it in terminal, etc.. And every time that happens Nautilus freezes in the same fashion as when I try to delete something. Is there anything else I could do in Nautilus to get a different kind of prompt, to check if that's actually the cause of the freezes? So I guess the name of this bug should be changed. [Bug 446606] Re: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/audio
Well, after rebooting sdb1 (also known as Terra) now automatically mounts to /media/t as I told it too in fstabs. So the problem is fixed for me, but I had to fix it, so this bug still needs to be squashed! -- Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446606 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 446606] Re: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/audio
I've got the same issue with 9.10 RC after a clean install. I've got two internal HDDs. I formated and installed Ubuntu 9.10 RC on sda1 (with normal desktop 64bit CD, I checked the CD for errors first), and set sdb1 to mount on /home/terra (Not a good idea, I guess, but I'm no Linux expert). When I first booted into 9.10 RC I could not find my HDD at all. I found /home/terra, but it was empty. Later I saw my HDD in the Disk Utillity app. I then tried to mount it to /media/t with the mount command (after creating /media/t), but go this error: mount: /dev/sdb1 already mounted or /media/t busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /media/t So I edited fstab to automount /dev/sdb1 to /media/t and restarted the computer. After this Terra showed up in the Places area (in Nautilus and the Gnome panel), but clicking on it gives the error that started this bug report: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/t While writing this last sentence, though, I went back to Nautilus to find the exact error message again, but this time I actually got access to Terra instead of the error message! I don't know what will happen when I restart the computer. It's very late here, so I can't try that now. But even though it seems to be fixed for me now, I still though I should let you know, because this gave me quite the scare, and if I didn't have any Linux experience at all I would simply have assumed that Ubuntu had errased all my data, and I would most likely jumped right back to Windows.
