It still existed in 2.28 (Lucid) and also exists in 2.30 as packaged at https://launchpad.net/~jacob/+archive/evo230 - reopening. [Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
This has screwed easily targetable corner buttons for everyone, not just Ubuntu theme users. If I have a maximised window and no title bar, I can no longer throw my mouse to the corner and click to quickly close a window; I now have to aim at a TINY target. This is even more frustrating when using a trackpad. Perhaps we should fix the all of the panel applets, especially the menu bar, trash, show desktop, and indicator session applets. They've all got infinite depth/height/width too... and don't forget that the scrollbars in *diance's GTK theme currently work all the way to the edge of the screen. Far too easy to use them at the moment too. /sarcasm If you really want to provide a comprehensive 'fix', it should meet these criteria: - if a window's maximised and there's nothing between metacity and the edge(s) of t and there is no THEME-SPECIFIC padding around the buttons, they should be clickable to the edge(s) of the screen that the button sits next to (including corners for the corner buttons). - if something's in the way at an edge (e.g. a top panel), don't have this infinite edge behaviour. OTOH, there is no reason that e.g. the edge-most button shoudn't be infinitely wide if there's nothing to the left and right, since this edge is useless otherwise. - the maintainer of *diance should then do one of two things. Either change the maximised/in the corner appearance of the maximised buttons to indicate that they are clickable in the corners/on the edges (e.g. half/quarter circles against the edges/corners), possibly only if they're actually at a screen edge. If the maintainer doesn't want this behaviour for *diance's Metacity buttons, add some explicit functional padding around them. If that's not possible with an unpatched Metacity, patch Metacity to add a flag to optionally switch infinite edge behaviour. Even better, make it a gconf OPTION. I welcome any feedback on why the above three points would not be better for all involved. -- Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 564749] [NEW] Outer-most window buttons don't sit in the corners when the window is maximised
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: light-themes For the many many users who have no top panel, with the previous official Ubuntu window decorations and many others you could throw the mouse to the corner and click to quickly close the window (similarly for other window buttons placed in the corners). With the new decorations, you have to precisely target a tiny icon, which takes a lot more time and attention every time. Try it yourself. In the default config, the main menu, desktop button, log out button and trash icon are all right in the corners. Please allow for the many of us who get rid of the top panel by pushing the buttons into the corners when a window is maximised, at least as an option! To be clear, this is nothing to do with the default button order - I couldn't care less as this is already customisable in gconf-editor. I am filing a separate bug because comments about the Fitt's-ness of the maximised button position have got lost in a sea of comments on the bug on that issue. ** Affects: light-themes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Outer-most window buttons don't sit in the corners when the window is maximised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/564749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 377322] Re: my sftp conncection breaks spontaneously after a while, I have to re-login to fix it.
Yes, Nautilus'/GVFS' handling of SFTP timeouts is atrocious. Not sure how this could happen with a brand-new 21st century rewrite of a network backend, but nevermind. As a workaround, try the following in a terminal: gvfs-mount -l (to list your GVFS mounts) Then gvfs-mount -u sftp://your-server/; to unmount the offending location and be able to re-connect/use Nautilus again. -- my sftp conncection breaks spontaneously after a while, I have to re-login to fix it. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 458273] [NEW] Can't merge a folder with a parent with the same name
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Using Nautilus 2.28.0 (Ubuntu Karmic) If I have the following structure: parentfolder (1) -samefoldername(2) -samefoldername (3) -files And I drag folder 3 into folder 1, I get the following message: A folder named samefoldername already exists. Do you want to merge the source folder? The source folder already exists in parentfolder. Merging will ask for confirmation before replacing any files in the folder that conflict with the files being moved. When I then click 'Merge', I get the following message: You cannot move a folder over itself. The source file would be overwritten by the destination. What should happen is I get the following structure instead: parentfolder -samefoldername -files Windows Explorer can do it. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xrandr - Running 9.10 beta 64-bit. I have a Dell Latitude E6500 in a docking station with an external monitor connected. My layout is with the external monitor logically extended above the laptop screen, and both displays running at 1920x1200, for a desktop of 1920x1200. When I wake it from hibernation, both screens are showing the output meant for the external monitor. The mouse can be moved from the external monitor down to the laptop display, although mouse events only get passed to the relevant window when clicking it on the external monitor. When opening up gnome-display-properties, the label for the external monitor appears in the corner of both the external and laptop screens, and making changes in the applet doesn't fix the problem. Undocking and re-docking the laptop results in restoration of dual-head output, but with the displays organised left to right instead of top to bottom. In addition, the GTK themer dies, falling back on an un-themed GTK. gnome-display-properties recognises this new, incorrect layout, but refuses to apply position changes until making a different change, e.g. disabling a display and then re-enabling it, after which the config is finally restored. Running the appearance app fixes the theme failure. - Compiz is running. - Wake from hibernation worked fine on 9.04. ** Affects: xrandr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Dell E6500 dual head configuration incorrect when waking from hibernation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 438099] [NEW] totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6 + updates to 2009-09-27 Package: totem 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 As I don't use Totem, I want to be able to uninstall it (since it is associated by default with every audio/video format) and use a different player. However, I don't want to lose the ability to view A/V information from Nautilus. If I remove everything but totem-common, I retain the Nautilus file info audio video tab, but a totem.desktop remains, leaving behind Totem's file associations (which no longer work).
