[Bug 436793] Re: Can't accept meeting invitation if found on other subscribed calendars

2010-08-23 Thread fubarbundy
It still existed in 2.28 (Lucid) and also exists in 2.30 as packaged at
https://launchpad.net/~jacob/+archive/evo230 - reopening.

And by the way, this pattern all over Launchpad of totally ignoring bugs
for ages (8 months in this case) - asking if it still exists in the new
version - closing it when there is (understandably) no response because
the original reporter has long since given up on any progress is totally
shit.

[Bug 575015] Re: Screen output selection broken with Dell Latitude E-series advanced dock

2010-05-10 Thread fubarbundy
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xrandr

  Hardware: Latitude E6500/Intel GMA-4500MHD graphics, E-series advanced
  dock, 2 x DVI monitors

  Actual behaviour:
  - on boot (login screen), docked with the laptop lid closed, The external
displays are deactivated (I assume that the laptop panel is activated). Opening
the lid deactivates the laptop display and activates both external displays in
clone mode. Closing the lid deactivates the external panels again.
  - On login, the displays remain in clone mode. Opening the laptop lid,
waiting for display switching and then closing it again causes the external
displays to (correctly) switch to extended desktop
  - Undocking with the laptop lid closed often causes X to hang (PC still
available over SSH, only killing the X server brings it back to life)
  - Docking with the laptop lid closed almost always causes X to hang
  - Docking with the laptop lid open, then closing the lid results in
(incorrect) clone mode or nothing on the external displays. Repeated opening
and closing of the lid sometimes fixes this; other times the displays have to
be manually reconfigured.

  Expected behaviour:
  - At least one external display should ALWAYS be activated when the laptop
lid is closed!
  - Xrandr/Gnome should remember its last configuration for each combination of
connected/active (e.g. laptop lid when not closed) displays, and always switch
to that when they are next active in the same combination.
  - No crashes :)

[Bug 575015] Re: Screen output selection broken with Dell Latitude E-series advanced dock

2010-05-10 Thread fubarbundy
More info on display selection behaviour:

Active displays and layout with the following sequential actions:

Laptop undocked, lid open: Laptop display, single screen
Docked, open: Laptop display, single screen
Docked, closed: 2 external displays, clone
Docked, open: 2 external displays, extended desktop
Docked, closed: Laptop displays, single screen (assumed config as not visible
:) )
Docked, open: 2 external displays, clone
Docked, closed: 2 external displays, extended desktop

It looks like every time a lid action is received, the display config
cycles to the next of 3 configs (which is pretty useless)

[Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner

2010-05-09 Thread fubarbundy
This has screwed easily targetable corner buttons for everyone, not just
Ubuntu theme users.

If I have a maximised window and no title bar, I can no longer throw my
mouse to the corner and click to quickly close a window; I now have to
aim at a TINY target. This is even more frustrating when using a
trackpad.

Perhaps we should fix the all of the panel applets, especially the menu
bar, trash, show desktop, and indicator session applets. They've all got
infinite depth/height/width too... and don't forget that the scrollbars
in *diance's GTK theme currently work all the way to the edge of the
screen. Far too easy to use them at the moment too. /sarcasm

If you really want to provide a comprehensive 'fix', it should meet
these criteria:

- if a window's maximised and there's nothing between metacity and the
edge(s) of t and there is no THEME-SPECIFIC padding around the buttons,
they should be clickable to the edge(s) of the screen that the button
sits next to (including corners for the corner buttons).

- if something's in the way at an edge (e.g. a top panel), don't have
this infinite edge behaviour. OTOH, there is no reason that e.g. the
edge-most button shoudn't be infinitely wide if there's nothing to the
left and right, since this edge is useless otherwise.

- the maintainer of *diance should then do one of two things. Either
change the maximised/in the corner appearance of the maximised buttons
to indicate that they are clickable in the corners/on the edges (e.g.
half/quarter circles against the edges/corners), possibly only if
they're actually at a screen edge. If the maintainer doesn't want this
behaviour for *diance's Metacity buttons, add some explicit functional
padding around them. If that's not possible with an unpatched Metacity,
patch Metacity to add a flag to optionally switch infinite edge
behaviour. Even better, make it a gconf OPTION.

I welcome any feedback on why the above three points would not be better
for all involved.

[Bug 567153] [NEW] Evolution email composition colours changed

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

When composing an email in Evolution, message fonts, colours, signatures
etc. should not be changed by the current desktop theme - especially in
a work environment, emails should remain consistent in appearance!

Yes, this may be a bug/issue with Evolution, but:

- chances of this being fixed in Evolution: zero
- chances of this being worked around (like other app-specific theme problems!)
in Ambiance: very good :)

[Bug 564749] [NEW] Outer-most window buttons don't sit in the corners when the window is maximised

2010-04-16 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

For the many many users who have no top panel, with the previous
official Ubuntu window decorations and many others you could throw the
mouse to the corner and click to quickly close the window (similarly for
other window buttons placed in the corners).

With the new decorations, you have to precisely target a tiny icon,
which takes a lot more time and attention every time. Try it yourself.

In the default config, the main menu, desktop button, log out button and
trash icon are all right in the corners. Please allow for the many of us
who get rid of the top panel by pushing the buttons into the corners
when a window is maximised, at least as an option!

To be clear, this is nothing to do with the default button order - I
couldn't care less as this is already customisable in gconf-editor. I am
filing a separate bug because comments about the Fitt's-ness of the
maximised button position have got lost in a sea of comments on the bug
on that issue.

[Bug 551950] Re: gnome-bluetooth cannot use pin = 1234

2010-04-14 Thread fubarbundy
The same issue with a Bluetooth barcode scanner which can only provide a
pin to be confirmed by the host and not the other way around.

I select 'fixed pin', with 1234 (or a custom pin), and then most times
gnome-bluetooth shows a 6-digit pin to be entered into the device anyway
(impossible), followed very shortly by failure to connect.

Occasionally gnome-bluetooth won't show a pin to be confirmed, but fails
very quickly anyway.

[Bug 497146] [NEW] Mishandling of @ (at sign) in WebDAV contacts username (wrong DNS query)

2009-12-15 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set up a WebDAV contacts store with a username with an @ in it (e.g.
u...@domain.com). I'm using Zimbra.
2. In Evolution, create a new address book of type WebDAV and click OK:
Example URL: https://hostdomain.com/dav/someonesn...@clientdomain.com/Contacts
Example Username: myn...@clientdomain.com

Expected result:
- contact super-awesomeness
- Evolution looks up hostdomain.com, asks for a password, authenticates with
usern...@clientdomain.com and the password, and requests the resource at
dav/someonesn...@clientdomain.com/Contacts

Actual result:
- Evolution pops up a dialogue with:
  Unable to perform search.
This query did not complete successfully.
- evolution-data-server spits out:
  (process:18068): libebookbackendgoogle-WARNING **: PROPFIND on webdav failed
with http status 2
- Wireshark reveals that e-d-s tried to perform DNS lookups for
clientdom...@hostdomain.com. Unsurprisingly, it failed.

It looks like maybe e-d-s is wedging the username into the front of the URL in
the format https://usern...@domain.com without escaping the @, resulting in
this case in myn...@clientdomain.com@hostdomain.com, and then mis-parsing the
username as myname and the domain as clientdom...@hostdomain.com. If not, I
can't imagine what sort of crack is going on here.

Worth noting that the same credentials work fine for the other DAV stores
(calendaring, tasks).

2009-11-09 Thread fubarbundy
Yes, Nautilus'/GVFS' handling of SFTP timeouts is atrocious. Not sure
how this could happen with a brand-new 21st century rewrite of a network
backend, but nevermind.

As a workaround, try the following in a terminal:

gvfs-mount -l

(to list your GVFS mounts)

Then

gvfs-mount -u sftp://your-server/;

to unmount the offending location and be able to re-connect/use Nautilus
again.

[Bug 458273] [NEW] Can't merge a folder with a parent with the same name

2009-10-22 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using Nautilus 2.28.0 (Ubuntu Karmic) If I have the following structure:

parentfolder (1)
-samefoldername(2)
   -samefoldername (3)
  -files

And I drag folder 3 into folder 1, I get the following message:

A folder named samefoldername already exists. Do you want to merge the
source folder? The source folder already exists in parentfolder.
Merging will ask for confirmation before replacing any files in the
folder that conflict with the files being moved.

When I then click 'Merge', I get the following message:

You cannot move a folder over itself. The source file would be
overwritten by the destination.

What should happen is I get the following structure instead:

parentfolder
-samefoldername
  -files

Windows Explorer can do it. Nautilus should be able to too.

[Bug 446226] Re: Unplugging Belkin USB Bluetooth (F8T017) crashes Xorg

2009-10-08 Thread fubarbundy
More info:

- this only happens when an USB wireless keyboard/mouse receiver (Logitech
Cordless Desktop 660) is plugged in (could this have to do with the Bluetooth
dongle registering itself as a keyboard/mouse input device?
 - it happens whether the laptop is docked or undocked
 - the laptop is a Dell Latitude E6500.

[Bug 444448] Re: Dell E6500 dual head configuration incorrect when waking from hibernation

2009-10-08 Thread fubarbundy
Further info:

- the positioning/theming issue seems to also crop up when the laptop is docked
after running undocked sometimes.
- when the gnome theme dies (falls back to unthemed, Windows 95ish appearance),
attempting to change settings in gnome-display-properties has no effect, UNTIL
gnome-appearance-properties is run, which also restores the current theme.

[Bug 444448] [NEW] Dell E6500 dual head configuration incorrect when waking from hibernation

2009-10-06 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xrandr

- Running 9.10 beta 64-bit.

I have a Dell Latitude E6500 in a docking station with an external
monitor connected. My layout is with the external monitor logically
extended above the laptop screen, and both displays running at
1920x1200, for a desktop of 1920x1200.

When I wake it from hibernation, both screens are showing the output
meant for the external monitor. The mouse can be moved from the external
monitor down to the laptop display, although mouse events only get
passed to the relevant window when clicking it on the external monitor.

When opening up gnome-display-properties, the label for the external
monitor appears in the corner of both the external and laptop screens,
and making changes in the applet doesn't fix the problem.

Undocking and re-docking the laptop results in restoration of dual-head
output, but with the displays organised left to right instead of top to
bottom. In addition, the GTK themer dies, falling back on an un-themed
GTK. gnome-display-properties recognises this new, incorrect layout, but
refuses to apply position changes until making a different change, e.g.
disabling a display and then re-enabling it, after which the config is
finally restored.

Running the appearance app fixes the theme failure.

- Compiz is running.
- Wake from hibernation worked fine on 9.04.

[Bug 438099] Re: totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem

2009-10-01 Thread fubarbundy
Urgh, looks like I spoke too soon when I said that the a/v info tab in
Nautilus worked without Totem - it doesn't. The original bug still
stands though.

Of course, it would still be nice to get rid of the totem frontend and
still keep the file info capability...

Sorry for the ignorance, but where is po/en_GB.po?

[Bug 438834] [NEW] nm-applet GUI allows invalid PPTP configuration

2009-09-29 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ubuntu version: Karmic Alpha 64-bit with updates to 2009/09/28
Network Manager version: 0.8~a~git.20090923t064445.b20cef2-0ubuntu1

According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-
us/library/cc732393%28WS.10%29.aspx MPPE is not supported with PAP or
CHAP authentication. However, when creating or editing a PPTP VPN
connection in nm-applet, the Advanced Options window allows 'Use Point-
to-Point Encryption (MPPE)' to be ticked even when only PAP and/or CHAP
are selected as authentication methods.

The VPN connection then fails, with the following /var/log/syslog
message:

MPPE required, but MS-CHAP[v2] auth not performed.

[Bug 438099] [NEW] totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem

2009-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6 + updates to 2009-09-27
Package: totem 2.28.0-0ubuntu1

As I don't use Totem, I want to be able to uninstall it (since it is
associated by default with every audio/video format) and use a different
player. However, I don't want to lose the ability to view A/V
information from Nautilus.

If I remove everything but totem-common, I retain the Nautilus file info
audio video tab, but a totem.desktop remains, leaving behind Totem's
file associations (which no longer work). If I remove totem common, I
get an error when viewing audio/video file properties, as
/usr/share/totem/properties.ui is now missing.

Suggestion: move /usr/share/applications/totem.desktop from totem-common
to totem. Looking at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
app-install/+bug/13754 seems to suggest that totem-common exists partly
to deal with totem-xine/totem-gstreamer issues, but totem-xine is now no
more.

[Bug 438099] Re: totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem

2009-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
Just to highlight - PLEASE don't 'fix' by merging totem and totem-common
or making totem-common depend on totem (if that's even possible!) as
that would remove the ability to separate the Totem player and Nautilus.

[Bug 118988] Re: No way to disable trash in nautilus

2009-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
Like others, I don't use the Trash/Wastebasket - I know when I want to
delete something. However, it is too easy to accidentally tap the delete
key on the keyboard, so I don't want to reassign the key to 'delete
permanently', just disable it. Unfortunately, the 'editable shortcuts'
approach doesn't work - the delete key still sends to trash, even when
there is no keyboard shortcut in the edit menu.

[Bug 200865] Re: 'Subject' font changes when switching to vertical preview

2009-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
It has been requested in the upstream report that this be made the
default, but no action has been taken. The justification of difficulty
in differentiation between subject and sender is suspect at best -
alternate messages are highlighted, and the default monospace font is
much more of a readability problem.

Maybe Ubuntu can pick up the ball on this one and set the gconf key to
true by default?

Actually, this is controlled by a gconf key:

[Bug 239294] Re: accidental usb disconnect doesnt unmount

2008-09-29 Thread fubarbundy
What year is this, 1990? Linux KNOWS that the USB device has been
disconnected - unmount it. This worked fine in 7.10, was broken in 8.04
and still is broken in 8.10.

And saying that yanking a USB drive will make it useless is disingenuous
- at least once writing is finished, it is nigh-impossible to damage a
USB drive by unexpectedly unplugging it (0.1% of unplugs, maybe).

[Bug 275528] [NEW] Seamless mode using 1.6 in Intrepid doesn't hide window decorations

2008-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rdesktop

When using rdesktop with seamless RDP, every window on the remote
machine should have its own local window with decorations hidden (hence
'seamless' :) )

Using rdesktop 1.5 on Hardy with seamless RDP, all the remote windows
have their xserver decorations hidden correctly, and xprop shows that
they have _MOTIF_WM_HINTS set for this purpose.

Using 1.6 on Intrepid, all remote windows (including menus, tooltips
etc.) have local decorations visible - there are no _MOTIF_WM_HINTS set.

rdesktop version: 1.6.0-2ubuntu1, amd64

[Bug 275545] [NEW] Window creation/destruction causes segmentation fault in seamless mode

2008-09-28 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rdesktop

Remote OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Local OS: Ubuntu Intrepid alpha 6 64-bit

Steps to reproduce: open or close pretty much any window, e.g. Explorer or
Firefox
or: change directories in Explorer, show/hide
folder tree
or: click the drop-down address bar on Firefox
or: probably loads of other cases, but I think
these are enough!

Affected versions:rdesktop 1.6.0-2ubuntu1, amd64 (Intrepid)
rdesktop 1.6.0-2, amd64 (from Debian:
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/)
rdesktop 1.5.0-3+cvs20071006ubuntu0.1 (Hardy)

[Bug 208297] Re: SMPlayer loses focus in Gnome

2008-06-26 Thread fubarbundy
I can confirm this with an up-to-date 8.04.

Steps to reproduce:

- Use Gnome.
- set SMplayer to use only one instance (Options - Preferences - Interface -
Instances)
- open a media file by double-clicking in Nautilus. SMPlayer will have focus
and be in front
- when opening a second media file with SMPlayer already open by
(double-)clicking: Metacity: SMPlayer will gain focus, but be behind the
current Nautilus window. Compiz: Nautilus will keep focus, but SMPlayer will
move front of the Nautilus window.
- when opening a second media file with SMPlayer already open by using keyboard
arrows + Enter in Nautilus: Metacity: SMPlayer will gain focus, but remain
behind the current Nautilus window. Compiz: SMPlayer will gain focus and move
in front (correct behaviour).

[Bug 241868] [NEW] fast-user-switch-applet doesn't switch back to login it creates

2008-06-21 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

Installed system - 8.04 64-bit with updates to 21st June 2008, two accounts,
f-u-s-a applet running on both. Gnome 2.22.2, f-u-s-a 2.22.0
Hardware - Intel G965 motherboard, Core 2 Duo, Intel GMA X3100 graphics
Desktop effects - enabled on account A, disabled (owing to xorg/Compiz
limitation) on account B

Steps to reproduce:

- with all users logged out, log in via GDM to account A
- switch to account B (i.e. log in) using f-u-s-a and type password
- switch back to account A using f-u-s-a
- try to switch back to account B using f-u-s-a - nothing happens

Additional info:

- each account's applet correctly lists users and status at each step
including the final one - it still shows the menu, just doesn't do
anything

Workaround - removing and re-adding the applet after the final step
results in the switcher in account A becoming able to switch to account
B

[Bug 241885] [NEW] firefox-3.0 default font size, minimum font size broken

2008-06-21 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Steps to reproduce:
- set default font size, proportional font size, monospace font size and
minimum font size to 10, and don't allow pages to choose their own fonts, in
Firefox preferences
- create the following HTML page (minimal example) and open it with Firefox
html
body
p style=font-size: 10ptThis is 10 pt/p
pThis isn't/p
/body
/html
- set layout.css.dpi to any one of -1, 0, your display DPI as reported by
xdpyinfo | grep resolution or your display DPI as manually calculated

Expected result: both HTML paragraphs are the same size (10pt)

Actual result: the second paragraph renders at ~7pt

Additional info:
- display is a 24 1920x1200 panel, connected via DVI at native resolution
- xdpyinfo reports 94 DPI, manually calculated is 94.34 DPI
- Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit

[Bug 203668] Re: [Hardy] Selecting Quit causes Gnome to stop responding

2008-06-21 Thread fubarbundy
I came across the 'Power Manager unchecked' problem as well. Given that
responses seem to suggest that this is the cause for most people, I
suggest that this bug be about that problem, and if someone has a
different cause, file a separate bug.

That said, aside from whether the quit dialoge should even have a gnome-
power-manager, it should NOT be possible to disable the power manager
service if it is 'essential' as a dependency of the quit dialogue.

Option A - fix Ubuntu Quit dialogue to not hang when gpm isn't running
Option B - don't allow user to disable gpm
Option C - automatically switch to upstream session dialogue (gconf key
/apps/panel/global/upstream_session) if Power Manager is disabled(/uninstalled?)

[Bug 189195] Re: Middleclick (click on middle button) causes odd behaviour

2008-03-02 Thread fubarbundy
Actually, on Firefox 2, the middle-click behaviour was more sensible -
with middlemouse.paste set to 'true', middle-clicking in text boxes
would paste text, but not give this annoying (and modal) message.
Middle-click to paste is useful across X-based apps, so disabling it is
unwise, but with Firefox moving away from modal boxes altogether, this
URL is not valid box shouldn't appear at all.

With 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu2, the screen now rotates. However, there are severe

exception to this for some reason is Firefox - although the interface
elements are corrupt, webpages are drawn perfectly.
