[Bug 1359766] Re: Kernel fails to execute code for killing OOM task if oom_kill_allocating_task = 0

2020-05-20 Thread gatopeich
Just happened to me on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS with kernel v5.

FFS, Ubuntu should just set oom_kill_allocating_task = 1 by default.

[Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2017-09-20 Thread gatopeich
This issue has been bothering more of a hundred users for more than a
year. In my case there was a workaround at some point, by downgrading
openvpn to an older version (can't remember which).

Being so prevailing and old, it is quite disgraceful that this is not
being addressed on Ubuntu 16 LTS.

Instead, I see some wall of text here (e.g. comment 80) trying to excuse
the inexcusable.

** Description changed:

  [Triage Notes]

- This bug can no longer make progress. Please see comment 50 for details
- and further instructions.
+ Apparently fixed on Ubuntu 17.04, nobody caring about LTS versions.
+ Please see wall of text on comment 50 for a long excuse.

  [Original Description]

When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by adding
  the lines:

  script-security 2
  up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
  down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

[Bug 1629611] Re: dns server priority broken

Downgrading network-manager package (not the VPN ones) to v1.1.93 solves
the issue so this is an obvious regression.

Note that there was another bug marked as a duplicate of this one but
with a more user-friendly description, along with the workaround.

[Bug 1032950] [NEW] Hangs (with 100% CPU usage) when trying to log-in for recommendations

2012-08-04 Thread gatopeich
Public bug reported:

Using 12.04 64-bits, when I try to turn on software-center
recommendations the "create new accout" dialog hangs while apparently
waiting for a "captcha", and uses 100% CPU (times 2 cores). When
clicking on "I already have an accout", the dialog changes but the CPU
usage stays. I can enter credentials but when I hit enter or click
"continue" nothing happens. I have tried cleaning up ~/.*/software* to
start it fresh, to no avail.

[Bug 786317] Re: wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not recognised?)

2011-09-12 Thread gatopeich
Similar problem with Bamboo CTL-460, since I upgraded to Lucid.

When released after a stroke, the pointer freezes until I fully separate
pen from tablet and re-approach. Then I get a bogus soft dash from the
point where I released to the point where the pen re-enters proximity,
and the stroke finishes there. This happens to me consistently with my
Bamboo on Lucid, with all recent kernel versions (2.6.32 as far as I can
tell). It didn't happen when I got my Bamboo and used Ubuntu 9.10 with
drivers from "doctorno" PPA, which make no difference on 10.04. No 100%
sure at which point it started failing, but most likely after the
update.

[Bug 323178] Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-04-16 Thread gatopeich
Tried a couple things:

1.- Calling "xrandr --auto" which is what I do when connecting external
monitor. No apparent effect.

2.- Pluging USB keyboard with Spanish layout while I was using laptop's
UK layout: Crash!

And the layout has been automagically switched to Spanish, probably that
triggered an event for xkb-plugin. My xfce4 (not plugin) keyboard layout
configuration is _not_ "using system defaults", and I defined there
manually the two layouts I need.

[Bug 361068] [NEW] obextool wrapper arbitrarily performs lengthy scans

2009-04-14 Thread gatopeich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: obextool

obextool wrapper is assuming that the only way to specify OBEXCMD is by
env var, and performs time wasting scans even when just invoked with
--help.

* Arbitrarily performs all scans (bluetooth & irda) also when just
invoked with "--help".

* Wrongly assumes that it is missing OBEXCMD info even when --obexcmd
option is provided. While trying to be helpful, this unsolicited
scanning becomes an annoyance.

  $ obextool --obexcmd "obexftp -b 11:22:33:44:55:66"

[Bug 69949] Re: SystemToolsBackends seems to be in busy loop

2009-01-09 Thread gatopeich
This is happening to me too with Hardy. Very annoying thing, when using
"network-admin" to configure an interface (wireless), two instances of
SystemToolsBackend.pl get executed and one of them seems to enter a busy
loop for about one minute, and configuration settings don't seem to
apply completely, at least during that period.

While configuring the interface from command line with iwconfig and/or
ifup/down, none of this happens. I would scrap the whole system-tools-
backend stuff where it not for the nice configuration interface
depending on it.

[Bug 223812] Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets

2008-11-27 Thread gatopeich
I see. According to you...

* The fix is wrong (essentially because it makes the package do what
description says).

* Package description is wrong (apparently in order to support your
previous assertion).

* Package name is wrong too, it should be named "anything-is-better-
than-powernowd".

* Original Debian package must be wrong also. They should be fixing it
to accomodate your more accurate idea of right and wrong.

What you are proposing is hijacking "powernowd" package for a purpose
which would be better acomplished in other ways.

(My excuses go to the list readers if I am overextending with this
strange issue.)

[Bug 223812] Please! - Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets

2008-07-21 Thread gatopeich
First thing, the mere length of this discussion for such a simple (and
well described!) issue is dismaying. What's going on here? I guess it is
just too easy to add an opinion...

Now, how come "powernowd" init script tries to run "ondemand" INSTEAD of
"powernowd"? THIS IS THE ISSUE. I don't really want powernowd, I DON'T
moinstall it in the first place...

Excuse the capitals, but I thought this discussion needs some clarity.

We just need to fix powernowd init script by removing every reference to
"ondemand", actually to every other scaling governor which powernowd
does NOT use. Let some ondemand lover go and write an ondemand package,
instead of messing this one.

In other words, we want an init script that does this:

1.- Load "userspace" governor if necessary, as it is the one REQUIRED by
powernowd (just read the README).

2.- Run "powernowd" daemon.

It can't be as complicated as the current script appears. I mean the
current two-script system... Who was the genious around?

Now this is the script as I think it should be: simple and direct. And
working!

Regards,
gatopeich.-

[Bug 16247] Re: ndiswrapper hangs on boot if running on battery

2007-12-14 Thread gatopeich
It is happening (randomly on boot-up) also on my Thinkpad T22 with
Broadcom 43xx chipset, no matter what version of Broadcom drivers I use.
It happens about 1/4 of boots.

The hang goes after these lines:
[ 24.82] ndiswrapper: driver bcm4306v4.10 (Broadcom,11/02/2005,
4.10.40.0) loaded
[ 24.82] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 10
[ 24.82] PCI: setting IRQ 10 as level-triggered
[   24.82] ACPI: PCI Interrupt :00:03.0[A] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 10
(level, low) -> IRQ 10
[ 24.828000] ndiswrapper: using IRQ 10
[RANDOMLY HANG!]

... When lucky, this is the next one to show:

[Bug 172638] Segmentation fault in Mesa dri / SDL _ConvertX86p32_8RGB332

2007-11-28 Thread gatopeich
Public bug reported:

1.- Start gltron with Mesa dri (savage dri driver on a Savage/IX8).
2.- Menus will appear allowing you to set up a game.
3.- Hit "Start game"
-> Seg fault at savage_dri.so

* Happens with other games (e.g. Armagetron), but not all, (e.g. X-moto).
* Could be a bug in SDL, 2nd thread is caught within SDL's
_ConvertX86p32_8RGB332.

[Bug 70609] Re: duplicate startup files

2007-11-24 Thread gatopeich
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 52685 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/52685

Xsession.d files from xinit package are to be removed.

- 20xorg-common_process-args only one different line, unmeaningful if
not wrong

- 30xorg-common_xresources just adds a _malformed_ invocation option for
xrdb

- 50,90,99xorg* : exact copies of the ones in x11-common

* xinit session files are dated 2004, whereas the ones in x11-common are
from 2005

My suggestion is to remove Xsession.d files from xinit if it has to live
along with x11-common.

Exactly what does xinit provide today?

[Bug 162038] netapplet icon shows wrong strength (always very low)

2007-11-11 Thread gatopeich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netapplet

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=495895

Wireless icon in netapplet is designed with 4 strength bars tha reflect link
quality/strength. Only the first bar will ever be filled, though the tooltip
and pop-up menu reflect a quite accurate measure (85% as I write).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start netapplet.
2. Connect to a wireless access point.
3. Check that connection strength is good (> 50%)

Actual results:
See the icon stuck at the first bar, no matter how good the connection is.

Expected results:
I would expect the icon reflecting what I see on the tooltip.

Does this happen every time?
Yes, indeed.

Other information:
I have a patch, just one line in file src/netapplet.c:
  1410c1410
  < strength = netapplet->link_quality;
  ---
  > strength = netapplet->active_ap->strength;

"netapplet->link_quality" seems to be rarely updated (never in my system),
whereas "ap->strength" is used for tooltips and pop-up menu, which are all
right. This way the icon is coherent with the textual displays.
