I have the same problem on Feisty AND Gutsy. It is definitely kernel
problem - if I run 2.6.17-11 (or older) everything is ok, but on
2.6.20.* power down does not work, as mentioned above.
It is somewhat annoying, and I can switch between kernels on the same
system - so maybe I can help you somehow?
btw, restarting works ok
