[Bug 2068004] [NEW] Ubuntu 24.04 does not display all available networks and cannot connect to Android hotspot
Public bug reported: Ubuntu only shows 4 available networks although there are many more. All networks should be displayed. When attempting to connect to an Android hotspot (SSID: ge, Password: 1234, Security: Either WPA or WPA2, with visible SSID, Device identification: Standard or Personal Hotspot), the SSID is found, and the password can be entered. After a brief connection, an error message appears: "Connection failed - Activation of network connection failed" and the Wi-Fi symbol is deactivated. After this error, entries such as "ge", "ge 2" and "ge 3" appear in the list of saved networks, depending on how often the connection was attempted. Deleting the saved networks does not solve the problem. Additional information: Ubuntu version: [insert your Ubuntu version] Network controller: [insert the type of your network controller] Android device and Android version: [insert your Android device and version] Steps to reproduce: Open network settings in Ubuntu. Search for available networks. Observe that only 4 networks are displayed, although there are more available networks. Attempt to establish a connection with an Android hotspot (SSID: ge, Password: 1234, Security: Either WPA or WPA2, with visible SSID, Device identification: Standard or Personal Hotspot). Enter the password for the Android hotspot. Observe that the connection is briefly established and then an error message appears: "Connection failed - Activation of network connection failed". Check the list of saved networks and notice that there are now entries like "ge", "ge 2" and "ge 3", depending on how often the connection was attempted. Try deleting the saved networks and notice that the problem persists. Expected behavior: All available networks should be displayed in the network settings. Ubuntu should be able to connect to an Android hotspot without receiving error messages. There should be no duplicate or numbered entries for the Android hotspot in the list of saved networks. lsb_release -rd No LSB modules are available. I can confirm the same issue with Ubuntu 20.04 and the Nextcloud client 3.1.3-20210218.151938.3842d306f-1.0~focal1. It appeared after the update from version 33-1 to 33.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1. [Bug 1913061] [NEW] systemd-coredump not available for systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3.2
Public bug reported: Hi, I am trying to install systemd-coredump, but it fails with the following error message: Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: systemd-coredump : Depends: systemd (= 245.4-4ubuntu3) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Following discussion on my question i am opening a bug report (link to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+question/695171) As far as i understand i have a version of systemd for which no systemd- coredump exists (or is at least not specified). It seems like this wasn't necessary for many users that had an older version of systemd- coredump installed and simply held the older package, but leads to this error if systemd-coredump has not been previously installed. [Bug 1908402] [NEW] Kubuntu 20.10 fails to boot after installation from ISO
Public bug reported: I downloaded http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/20.10/release/kubuntu-20.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent and downloaded the ISO via Bittorent, wrote it to an USB stick and booted a very ordinary PC (which has a single SATA HD) from it. I chose install Kubuntu, chose use entire disk (guided) and successfully installed with no visible issues (chose download from Internet during installation and install third party stuff, but I believe this is not relevant). At the end when prompted I chose "restart" and when the installer a few moments later asked me to remove the boot medium and hit enter I removed the USB stick and hit enter. When the PC rebooted then the BIOS complained that no bootable device could be found. I did the install twice, both times with the same effect. I then installed Kubuntu 20.04 using the same procedure, and things did work fine with 20.04. I've successfully installed dozens of Linux distributions on that machine over time, and it's very unlikely to be a hardware issue. To me it looks like the Kubuntu 20.10 installer fails to properly make the disk bootable or install the bootloader. Prior to my installation attempt, some other Linux distro had already been installed, but I explicitly chose "use entire disk", so that should not matter. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908402 Title: Kubuntu 20.10 fails to boot after installation from ISO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1908402/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You can specify more than one and it then installs to each of them. It remembers the choice next time grub is updated via apt. I've just tested this and it works as described. However, grub-efi-amd64 wasn't installed on my freshly installed 20.04 Ubuntu system. Installed was grub-efi-amd64-signed. And 'dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64-signed' didn't prompt for anything! FWIW, when installing Fedora with the default installer and selecting a RAID-1 scheme there, the EFI system partition is created on a superblock 1.0 RAID-1. [Bug 1890394] Re: Lightdm-gtk-greeter coredump during boot with recent systemd versions
I don't have access to a machine where Ubuntu Focal is installed. AFAICS, this issue currently breaks Ubuntu Bionic LTS completely for non-technical users running Lxde (e.g. Lubuntu) who regularly apply updates (as recommended) without a simple work-around being available. With non-technical users I'm referring to users who aren't comfortable on the command line. That means they can't just log into the console and enable the proposed updates etc. So I consider this as a pretty serious issue for an LTS release. Releasing it rather earlier than later would probably lead to less people being affected (i.e. those who haven't installed the latest breaking updates yet). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890394 Title: Lightdm-gtk-greeter coredump during boot with recent systemd versions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm-gtk-greeter/+bug/1890394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1899188] [NEW] erratic behavior when trying to select files in large folders

If I try right clicking on the outlined file it jumps back up to the randomly select file and displays the menu of actions I wish, unfortunately on the randomly selected file not the original file I tried to select. after playing with the speed of clicking and double clicking I was able to get the needed file selected but when I right clicked to bring up the action menu it jumped back up towards the top of that column and selected another file. I did some research. [Bug 1853735] Re: grub2 fails to load with DP1.2 (but not DP1.1)
** Description changed: I observed a very strange behaviour and have not found a solution so far: Legacy BIOS GRUB2 (2.02-2ubuntu8.13) Nvidia Quadro K420 ASUS PB27U 4k monitor connected via display port The monitor allows to select DP1.1 (30Hz@4k) and DP1.2 (60Hz@4k) via OSD. With DP1.1 computer boots up normally but it would be required to later change manually to 60Hz. With DP1.2 the BIOS messages (POST) are seen, then a short cursor blink in the left upper corner and the systems halts with a blank screen (I can exclude that grub continues with the boot up process since I cannot ping the machine). I tried: GRUB_GFXMODE "1024*768*8" and GRUB_TERMINAl "console" reinstalling MBR + Always the same picture: DP1.1 no problem, DP1.2 no GRUB. - Always the same picture: DP1.1 no problem, DP1.2 no GRUB. + + One more oddity: If a boot in DP1.1 and then switch the monitor to DP1.2 during GRUB the boot process continues normally and I end with a graphic session 60Hz@4k as intended. + + It appears that only the inital grub2 loading is affected somehow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853735 Title: grub2 fails to load with DP1.2 (but not DP1.1) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1853735/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1763202] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor
I am running 4.15.0-24-generic on a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the same specs, and I am also not able to connect to Dell Montiors at all. I work at home with a Hyundai (Hitachi) Monitor and it works pretty well, but on Dell U2415 (and another older Dell model) it does not work. [Bug 1769695] Re: Freeze of Surface for 2 Minutes
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic ** Description changed: I am using a fresh installed Ubuntu 18.04 on an RX 480 and an i5 7600. 3.28.0-0ubuntu1 is running. Normaly, everything runs fine, but lately when I had some windows open (eclipse, Texmaker, Terminal, Firefox with Youtube and other windows) the system suddenly was nearly frozen, I could move the mouse and change active windows by ctrl+tab but not use the keyboard e.g. for typing into windows or make any actions with the mouse (e.g. open menues, click on menues, ..). When I changed the session by Ctrl+Alt+F3 and then killed firefox, everything worked again. I do not know whether this is a Firefox, a gdm or a graphics driver issue. Since a program should not be able to make the desktop crash at all, I suppose its not Firefox and so I post it here. /var/log/syslog around the time contains the following (even if it contains some device removed code, I did not do anything with the cables and am sure that there isn't a hardware defect with mouse and keyboard): May 7 17:27:40 reichelt-desktop nautilus[3278]: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: Kindprozess »net« konnte nicht ausgeführt werden (No such file or directory) May 7 17:27:53 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width 12 and height -12 May 7 17:27:53 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkScrollbar May 7 17:27:53 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:27:53 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:27:53 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4402269 (Run Config) May 7 17:27:54 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:28:15 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: message repeated 2 times: [ gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton] May 7 17:28:18 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x44002d3 (dissworksp) May 7 17:28:18 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4403e58 (Open Resou) May 7 17:28:20 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x44002d3 (dissworksp) May 7 17:28:22 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width 12 and height -12 May 7 17:28:22 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkScrollbar May 7 17:28:22 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:28:22 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:28:22 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4404745 (Run Config) May 7 17:28:23 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:28:25 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: message repeated 2 times: [ gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton] May 7 17:28:26 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4405147 (Confirm La) May 7 17:28:27 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4404745 (Run Config) May 7 17:28:27 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton May 7 17:29:31 reichelt-desktop java[11096]: message repeated 5 times: [ gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkRadioButton] May 7 17:29:34 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x44002d3 (dissworksp) May 7 17:29:35 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x4406400 (Open Type ) May 7 17:29:38 reichelt-desktop org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2203]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x44002d3 (dissworksp) May 7 17:29:40

I collected the information. The bug does not appear on a certain behaviour, but from time to time. Did you sanitize this log and replace the real user with "USER"? Yes I did. Can you verify if you can do simple file operations in that directory? Create a file, mv it to another name in the same path, *as* the user (not root or somebody else)? Indeed I am able to do all those things without problem. The owner uid/gids of the dconf folder match with the ids output by getent passwd. The users processes are also executed with that uid. Are there symlinks involved in this networked /home setup? [Bug 1764778] Re: Problems with SSSD + pam mount
Setting ad_gpo_access_control to disabled did not solve the problem. I can confirm, that all files in the domain users mounted homefolder are owned by the user with the rights set to 700. In the timeframe i tried to trigger the error, the only entrances in /var/log/syslog were: Apr 23 09:50:10 CLIENT gnome-shell[3975]: Some code accessed the property 'discreteGpuAvailable' on the module 'appDisplay'. That property was defined with 'let' or 'const' insidethe module. This was previously supported, but is not correct according to the ES6 standard. Any symbols to be exported from a module must be defined with 'var'. The property access will work as previously for the time being, but please fix your code anyway. Just to be clear: We are not 100% sure, the problem is not in our configuration. We just dont see why the same configuration would yield such different results between 16.04 and 18.04. [Bug 1764778] Re: Problems with SSSD + pam mount
As we are not understanding the problem ourselves, we are not in the position to pinpoint which package is responsible for the problem. SSSD and pam mount are just the main two packages installed by us for our domain setup. Thats why I included both of them in the bug report. There are no problems with reading or writing files such as text files in folders that are mounted by pam_mount. But if I am not mistaken, the settings described as not working above are also saved in the users home directory? The output of sudo mount -t cifs //server.domain/home/testuser on /home/testuser type cifs (rw,relatime,vers=default,cache=strict,username=testuser,domain=DOMAIN,uid=826404655,forceuid,gid=826400513,forcegid,addr=XX.XX.XX.X,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0700,soft,nounix,serverino,mapposix,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,echo_interval=60,actimeo=1) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1764778 Title: Problems with SSSD + pam mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpam-mount/+bug/1764778/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
