[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 wifi support

2013-11-03 Thread giardia
On my HP650 happened the same for comment #134. wifi and bluetooth
worked fine, with good signal and working button, until kernel 3.2.0-54
on ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit. From 3.2.0-54 problems begins.

I have ubuntu preinstalled on this laptop and i have a repository named: /main
(hp.archive.canonical.com) that contain packages like:
rt3290bt-dkms rt3290bt driver in DKMS format.
oem-wireless-rt2x00-1044172-dkms and so on that are Manteined by Canonical OEM
Services solutions-gr...@lists.canonical.com

Maybe we should contact them or backport the driver in 3.2.0-54 to
recent kernels.

or check http://hp.archive.canonical.com/dists/

greetings

HP releasing only windows file .exe to update the BIOS, so is bit difficult now
to upgrade as i have only ubuntu on this HP 650.
Btw you think this bug can be considered a duplicate of this?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1049466/

new bios just fix some windows related problems, so maybe is just an
issue with the wifi module version or dkms Dynamic Kernel Module
Support?

the linked bug can have the final solution to make the wifi work with
new kernels out of the box?

also related links:

and: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/nach-update-kein-wlan-
mehr-433/2/#post-5641297

btw is an updated bios is always good, i'll try to upgrade and report as
asked. thanks

2013-10-25 Thread giardia
tested the suggested mainline kernel. wireless is not unclaimed with
this kernel (recognized with lshw) but wifi is not working properly,
icon always flashing and requesting for the wpa passphrase but never
connects. also bluetooth not available! to have wifi and bluetooth
working i have to use again 3.2.0-54.82 kernel.

i got some error messages installing the mainline kernel headers,
probably about wireless modules, so i'll attache file make.log

afaik the bug is not fixed in the mainline kernel

[Bug 974559] Re: gwibber-service crashed with DBusException in call_blocking()

2012-11-07 Thread giardia
i still have this bug. same as my comment #5. im using gwibber only for
identi.ca microblogging account. if i delete the account then restart, gwibber
is working. i can revoke authorization for gwibber in identica, and create
again an identica account in gwibber allowing again gwibber to access identica.
if i do so, it's working and i can receive feed and send message. but after a
computer restart it will stop working again, giving the error at startup. if
can be of any use, this is what appear when launching gwibber-service from
terminal:
giarod@giarod:~$ gwibber-service

incorrect, assertion timeout_milliseconds = 0 || timeout_milliseconds == -1
failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-connection.c line 3485.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-10-04 Thread giardia
probably there is also a bug in the NVIDIA driver 96.43.23 installer,
everytime I run NVIDIA driver script to compile the driver to
upgrade/redo (xorg changes or whatever) , it deletes my installed
libvdpau.so.1 I have to uninstall and reinstall libvdpau1 package
through apt-get command. It's quite annoying when I want to use mplayer
and gmplayer because of this error:

$ mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvdpau.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

my /var/log/nvidia-installer.log. It shows:
$ cat nvidia-installer.log |grep libvdpau
- Unable to restore symbolic link /usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1 - libvdpau.so.1.0.0
- Unable to restore symbolic link /usr/lib/vdpau/libvdpau_trace.so.1 -
libvdpau_trace.so.1.0.0 (File exists).

can somebody file a bug?

maybe affect also other nvidia installers, as i read on the net that the
code to delete conflicting libvdpau files was added to recent versions
of the installer where the package replaces it with its own. That
shouldn't have been backported to the legacy driver series, since it
doesn't install one.

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-27 Thread giardia
i hope nvidia96 will be available in ubuntu's repo, everythime they
release a new kernel (that is happening more often nowadays) i have to
install again the driver; also i receive updates about xorg recently,
when i restart, the pc was in a loop at login, so i restart in safe
mode, and to solve i removed and installed again the nvidia.run, it said
the driver was corrupted by a recent installation and give the error
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so is not a symbolic link. but i
was able to reinstall and now it work again as before.

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-15 Thread giardia
who tried the new nvidia96 drivers? im using the new release and i have a
little more higher FPS (363 FPS against 235 of nouveau) maybe a faster
performance but some visualization problems in firefox, for example in ubuntu
forum pages and youtube search field is bit flickering; also in Totem, when i
play mp3, the visual effects are shown with a line cutting the field from top
right to bottom left. im using nvidia geforce2 mx400
also im using gnome-classic (no effect), because with effect, the frames of the
windows arn't visible (with nouveau was working fine)

just another question: if i want to uninstall package libgl1-mesa-dri
(it give 3D support for nouveau), it ask me to remove also xorg and
ubuntu-desktop; should i leave installed, or should i remove from non-
graphic mode and then reinstall xorg and ubuntu-desktop?

ps: about my comment #121 i managed to set the best resolution for my
monitor adding a metamode in nvidia-settings

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-08 Thread giardia
installed the new nvidia driver release.
(actually, i have still nouveou package installed, but nvidia installer
provided to disable the nouveau drivers with a modprobe config file)
it works...but with my nvidia geforce2 mx400 and a monitor acer X193HQL, by
default it choose the resolution of 1280x800 but is not a pleasure for the
eyes...the best resolution for the acer should be 1366x768, but, when i choose
the 1360x768 resolution in nvidia xserver settings, the desktop is not full in
the monitor, the right part is missing. so i have to choose a way in the middle
(1280x800). is it a problem with the driver or with the Xconfig?

ps: im wondering, as a newbie...why this new version of webkit has not
been given from the ubuntu updates still? it will be in the future? if
this will be the case, could be a problem to have already installed from

[Bug 287336] Re: Quickcam video too dark

2012-04-11 Thread giardia
im using Ubuntu 11.10 with a QuickCam Chat webcam

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:092e Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Chat

on vlc (v4l2) the image is pretty good and not dark; it seems to work
also with empathy (but i don't tested too much)

also the webcam led is not always on as in previous versions of ubuntu,
but only if in use, that is pretty nice

unfortunately is not working with skype (beta version 2.2.0.35) (the
/dev/video0 is selected but i got no video even if i press the button to start
the video,in the settings or during calls)
is strange because in older version of skype i had the same webcam working.
(skype team should solve this as long as is closed software?)

i cannot try the webcam with Cheese because it crashes everytime i launch the
program, maybe this is a bug of Cheese
(cheese:5273): Clutter-CRITICAL **: Unable to initialize Clutter: Unable to
