[Bug 151884] X not starting after upgrade to 7.10 RC (ATI X1400)

2007-10-12 Thread glenner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

I did an upgrade from feisty to gutsy RC. The upgrading went well but after
rebooting X would not come up (same in recovery mode).
The splash screen is shown OK but as soon as X starts the screen turns black.
I can't jump back to a terminal (using ctrl-alt-F1) or can't restart X (using
ctrl-alt-backspace), i only can reboot.
I'm running on a Dell inspiron 9400 with an ATI X1400 graphics card, using the
fglrx driver (8.37.6).
I will attach the Xorg log file..

please let me know how i can help to sort this out for the final release
so everything goes automagically

[Bug 151884] Re: X not starting after upgrade to 7.10 RC (ATI X1400)

2007-10-12 Thread glenner
running
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
solves the problem.
however some strange things happened when doing this:
the autodetection of my graphics card failed, i had to manually select the
flgrx driver.
Also the detection of the monitor failed; the screen went black and i had to
reboot.
When manually entering the correct options it works and i can now start x.
i hope this is solved for the final release..

the performance in X seems much slower then it was in feisty however,
there is a lot of flickering..

2007-08-15 Thread glenner
Hi,

i have been able to use firefox a few times without any problems however now
i'm having the exact same problem again. I don't remember changing anything
which could be related to this.
Is there something else i need to try? Do you need more information?

thanks!

[Bug 128850] firefox hangs before GUI is shown

2007-07-28 Thread glenner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Hi,

I've got a problem with firefox (2.0.0.5+1-0ubuntu1) on a clean kubuntu feisty
install.
Firefox does not start on my machine. When i start it from the console nothing
happens, i get no output and firefox does not appear, it just hangs until i
kill the process.
What i have tried:
* rm -r ~/.mozilla/* - now it shows the import wizard before hanging
* firefox -safe-mode  - does not help
* sudo rm /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/* - does not help
* sudo aptitude reinstall mozilla-firefox firefox - does not help
* strace firefox - i will attach the output

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-24 Thread glenner
i get an error dialog about not having enough free disk space. It says i need
to free at least 44.4M of disk space on /var/cache/apt/archives , but according
to df i have 1.2G available on that partition.
The last line printed to the console is Investigating python-parted.
So i am stuck here..

i am having a similar problem, the updater tells me to free at least
48.8M of space on /var/cache/apt/archives/ but according to df i have
1.2GB available on that partition.

/var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log contains:

the line
dir '/var/cache/apt/archives/' needs '1281071154.0'
makes me think the 44.4M displayed in the dialog is wrong and should be ~1280M ?

[Bug 66809] Re: fonts path mixed up /usr/share/fonts/X11 /usr/share/X11/fonts

2006-10-21 Thread glenner
I'm having the exact same problem here. There are 2 threads on the forum which
seem to be related:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1264361#post1264361
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76046page=5

Doing
apt-get install xfs
apt-get install --reinstall xfonts-base

seems to fix the problem for some people but i'm having no succes so
far..
