[Bug 1843570] Re: Network Adapter in Thunderbold3 Dock don't work after Kernel 4.15.0-58
I submitted a detailed question to askubuntu.com with no responses (even after a bounty) Here are the details it included: Currently having major issues with thunderbolt ethernet adapter. The device is a "Razer Core X" thunderbolt eGPU enclosure which has a built in USB3 hub and gigabit ethernet port. Essentially a very powerful dock with its own GPU (utilizing the 4 lanes of PCIe on the thunderbolt port). The same issue occurs if I use the built in ethernet port or if I plug in my own USB3 ethernet adaptor into the USB3 hub on the dock. The issue does not occur if I bypass the thunderbolt dock and plug an ethernet adaptor in directly (although this kind of defeats the purpose of the dock). The same issue also occurs on different laptops that both use this dock. My work laptop is on 18.04 and my new personal laptop is on 20.04 and both versions of Ubuntu on both laptops have the exact same behavior. When the ethernet fails it is no longer able to resolve DNS nor can I even ping anything on my local network, but the device still appears "connected" in the NetworkManager UI. When I toggle the connection off/on then it shows "Connecting" and stays stuck there permanently. When I check dmesg/syslog I see the exact same bunch of errors every single time. Below is an example of the error. Here you can see in the logs I reload the driver via modprobe which causes connection to work again briefly. Then the exact same error and symptoms occur moments later: ``` [SAME ERROR REPEATED ~20 times] [ 543.814402] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000425e6e3f0 trb-start 000425e6e2e0 trb-end 000425e6e2e0 seg-start 000425e6e000 seg-end 000425e6eff0 [ 543.815185] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 543.815186] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000425e6e400 trb-start 000425e6e2e0 trb-end 000425e6e2e0 seg-start 000425e6e000 seg-end 000425e6eff0 [ 543.815271] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 543.815272] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000425e6e410 trb-start 000425e6e2e0 trb-end 000425e6e2e0 seg-start 000425e6e000 seg-end 000425e6eff0 [ 543.815356] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 543.815357] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000425e6e420 trb-start 000425e6e2e0 trb-end 000425e6e2e0 seg-start 000425e6e000 seg-end 000425e6eff0 [ 543.815822] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 543.815823] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000425e6e430 trb-start 000425e6e2e0 trb-end 000425e6e2e0 seg-start 000425e6e000 seg-end 000425e6eff0 [ 609.127969] usbcore: deregistering interface driver ax88179_178a [ 609.128443] ax88179_178a 10-1:1.0 enx90203a1c2b65: unregister 'ax88179_178a' usb-:0c:00.0-1, ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet [ 609.643604] ax88179_178a 10-1:1.0 eth0: register 'ax88179_178a' at usb-:0c:00.0-1, ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet, 90:20:3a:1c:2b:65 [ 609.645089] usbcore: registered new interface driver ax88179_178a [ 609.646672] ax88179_178a 10-1:1.0 enx90203a1c2b65: renamed from eth0 [ 612.705215] ax88179_178a 10-1:1.0 enx90203a1c2b65: ax88179 - Link status is: 1 [ 612.735735] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): enx90203a1c2b65: link becomes ready [ 652.991795] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 652.991799] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000384cb4280 trb-start 000384cb4260 trb-end 000384cb4260 seg-start 000384cb4000 seg-end 000384cb4ff0 [ 652.991859] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 652.991862] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000384cb4290 trb-start 000384cb4260 trb-end 000384cb4260 seg-start 000384cb4000 seg-end 000384cb4ff0 [ 652.991944] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 652.991945] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000384cb42a0 trb-start 000384cb4260 trb-end 000384cb4260 seg-start 000384cb4000 seg-end 000384cb4ff0 [ 652.992030] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 652.992032] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000384cb42b0 trb-start 000384cb4260 trb-end 000384cb4260 seg-start 000384cb4000 seg-end 000384cb4ff0 [ 652.992121] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 4 comp_code 13 [ 652.992122] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000384cb42c0 trb-start 000384cb42

Would very much like this fixed in the LTS version 18.04 (I thought the whole point of LTS is it would get fixes like this). [Bug 1210091] Re: Laptop lid closure suspends ongoing shutdown; later resumes shutdown
This exactly describes what I am experiencing on a clean install of 13.10 (also happened on 13.04). Kernel is currently "3.11.0-14-generic" When I start shutting down, then close the lid, the computer stays on in a suspended state until I open the lid again, at which point it resumes shutting down. I have the computer configured to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed as my user. Strangely when I run the "gnome-control-center" as root, it shows different power options. I changed these root settings to also "Do Nothing" in the hopes it would prevent this problem from occurring, but it still happens. Not really sure where else to go or what other information to provide. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. [Bug 1059215] [NEW] Hangs while starting Cisco VPN
Public bug reported: Using: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS IcedTea version "1.2-2ubuntu1.2" chrome "23.0.1271.10 dev" I cannot connect to my University VPN. The site is myvpn.ubc.ca, but you would need credentials to test it. It says the IcedTea plugin is out of date, but clicking the update link just takes me to the icedtea.classpath.org website. If I click "Run Anyway" it hangs saying "Using Sun Java for Installation Sun Java applet has started. This could take up to 60 seconds. Please wait...". It will hang at this point indefinitely, I have left it for hours at a time once with no change. This is in google chrome (version mentioned above). However the same issue happens in firefox, with the only difference being that I do not get an "out of date" warning. But it still hangs in the same place once it tries to start. Note that connecting to this VPN via the site mentioned above worked perfectly fine a few months ago. Then it just stopped working. This is the only way I have of connecting to my VPN (Other clients like the one built into Ubuntu desktop do not seem to work despite me providing all the necessary information). With this issue, linux is effectively useless to me (VPNs are kind of important)! [Bug 892963] Re: Unity missing a "logout" button?
Ugh, i just realized my problem. This is embarrassing. It was signing into the guest account that made me realize it, because the logout button showed up there (unity --reset made no difference). My logout button was simply disabled in settings. Unfortunately I cannot tell exactly where the setting was because I used the UbuntuTweak program, which obviously adds a layer of abstraction from where the settings really are configured. To be honest, I have no idea why it was disabled in the first place though, I doubt I would have disabled it myself (although never say never). It also probably does not explain the original bug reporter's problem either (or at least it's not likely that everyone who commented on this bug also was using UbuntuTweak and had this setting coincidentally messed up like me). Does the system disable it by default during installation if there is only one account configured? Anyway, my issues are solved. Thanks a lot and sorry if this whole bug turns out to be a bit of a waste of time (I write code too, I've had my time wasted too. In my defense I am not the original reporter, although I totally did give it a bit of a poke ;). Ted, just FYI, it is both the media skip buttons (forwards and backwards) as well as the "stop" button and the "play/pause" buttons. Your d-bus instructions are a little confusing to me or else I would run them myself for you, but perhaps if you install and run amarok you can check it for yourself. I have a pretty typical installation and don't see why it would work on someone elses computer but not mine. Also, I am curious whether it would be looking for the KDE icons because amarok is a KDE application, or the gnome icons because the indicator applet is a gnome app??? I would not be surprised either way! agreed, the picture looks the same, but they are not discussing my issue at all, they have yet to mention the aesthetic issues of the menu. EVERYONE who has posted on that bug simply wants the old tray icon back. ITS NOT EVEN A BUG, its just a bunch of whiners. How is that the same Theres a total of 8 comments on that "bug" an not a single one says "hey, and the icons dont appear right either" How will this bug get fixed if it is marked as a duplicate of a very different bug (which is not even a bug but some people complaining about new functionality)? If this bug is marked as a duplicate, it will never be fixed Seriously, how can people not see this is a different issue? "hmm ive got a unique bug description and made a report about it cause noone else has yet, but lets just tack it on to some other issue that ISNT EVEN A BUG so that it will never be dealt with" what nonesense! I humbly request that you unmark this bug as a duplicate because I am tired of fighting with you people about it. Alternatively I can post my issues in a comment on this other bug, but that will just be muddling things since the original bug description and EVERYONE else discussing it have yet to mention this issue. [Bug 600302] Re: No icons for amarok menu in indicator-applet
"If you hover the mouse pointer over it, it should show the artwork and the song that is playing. My problem is that it is not doing any of this for me!" ^^^THIS^^^ is NOT "my problem" although this user clearly states that ^^^THIS^^^ is "HIS problem".this problem quoted does NOT describe the picture I have attached. Therefore I disagree that this is a duplicate. I do not want Amarok to minimize/maximize when I click the icon, I am well aware that there is a menu that is supposed to appear and min/maximize is no longer the proper functionality of the tray icon. The shortcomings of this menu's functionality are not what I am trying to report. Therefore this is NOT A DUPLICATE. Again, although I dont know why I bother repeating myself, my problem is that the icons WITHIN this menu do not appear, the menu options themselves work fine and just as I expect them to when I click them. My issue is purely aesthetic and to do with the lack of any icons whatsoever WITHIN the menu - SEE PICTURE. I will be unmarking this again as a duplicate, if you really must insist on marking it as a duplicate please quote a RELEVANT section that discusses the lack of icons that I am reporting. Please see my attached picture if you do not understand my issue clearly and why these are not the same, the picture sums up my problem perfectly as the error is immediately evident once you look at it. ***SEE PICTURE*** ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 562856 Amarok Notification Icon is Broken -- No icons for amarok menu in indicator-applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to amarok in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 600302] Re: No icons for amarok menu in indicator-applet
I unmarked this bug as a duplicate. I read further into the bug that it was formerly marked as duplicating, and people seem to be complaining about the loss of old functionality that comes with this new style menu. I have no issues with that, I don't care about the functionality, I just care about whether my icons appear in this new menu. which they dont. -- No icons for amarok menu in indicator-applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to amarok in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

That does not look like my problem. [Bug 600302] [NEW] No icons for amarok menu in indicator-applet
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amarok using: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Amarok Version 2.3.0 Using KDE 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) When I use amarok the indicator applet icon appears fine, but the icons WITHIN the menu do not appear, it give me a little error icon instead. The picture I attached should make this fairly clear what is happening. There are other bugs around amarok and the indicator-applet but none specifically for this issue. I have all the dependancies installed and also the kde Icon themes "kde- icons-oxygen" and "kde-icons-crystal" according to my KDE configuration from the "System Settings" option in the System->Preferences menu I am using the Oxygen theme, and icons within the KDE programs appear just fine. This appears to be a bug because theoretically these icons should appear and work by default since I have everything necessary already installed. [Bug 582972] [NEW] [lucid] package splashy failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh', which is also in package lsb-base 0:4.0-0ubuntu8
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: splashy There are many reports for this bug, and I have managed to get the package working using a debdiff file from another bug report on this site. However I have created a new report because all the other ones were outdated on the old Ubuntu. My issue is on a clean installation of lucid lynx 64 bit, and I am amazed a fix has not been officially released for a bug that has been around for what has clearly been years now.
