[Bug 397674] Re: banshee can no longer play last.fm streams

2009-11-18 Thread grahams1
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 415937 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415937

Interesting heat I picked up here. Maybe somewhat justified, but it is
frustratingly hard see what if anything was going on with this bug.

Even now 4 months after bug #397674 was reported and after a fix has
been submitted to Banshee's git, this still isn't assigned an owner on
launchpad. Why even list the bug here if no one will own it?

At least after my "flame" as you call it, others can finally figure out
it is actually being worked on and now fixed.

I like Banshee, but it's 3 mths since this bug was reported, so it
appears Banshee has become a dead project. Time to move on

2009-02-20 Thread grahams1
Not sure I agree with this being a hardware limitation. There were no
issues on older versions of the code and I believe this is a common
ATI controller. Not a big deal as the work around is easy.

I will try 9.04 in a few weeks and report back.

[Bug 160871] Re: Screen resolution issues in Hardy with Radeon Mobility 7500

2008-04-26 Thread grahams1
Hi Rocket2Dmn

I'm using the open source driver (fglrx doesn't support this older
chip).

I got compiz working fine on Hardy with a similar workaround as to your
well written howto. My issue is just with screen resolution.

System->Preferences->Screen Resolution doesn't offer any resolutions
other than the native 1400x1050 for the laptop screen.

To troubleshot this a little further I borrowed an external monitor.
Hardy had no problem identifying it and offering different resolutions,
but still would not offer more than the native 1400x1050 on the laptop.
The issue is limited to the internal laptop screen (which works fine on
feisty).

I'm guessing there is a handshake when monitors are attached and the
screen on this laptop either doesn't respond correctly or Hardy doesn't
recognize the monitor type.

I've tried to force the resolution by manual edit of xorg.conf, but it
is always overwritten. I will try grandr, next time I try the live CD.

Thanks

I wasn't sure which package is causing to issue. There are no error
messages, but there is a regression in functionality from 7.04 i.e. not
being able to change screen resolution.

I recenltly tried 7.10 on a newer IBM t60 laptop and the resolution
could be changed. This may be that the older Compaq n610 hardware not
being recognized correctly.

[Bug 105490] Re: [Feisty] Swap partition receives new UUID

2007-05-31 Thread grahams1
I have this issue with 2-6-20-16 when hibernate stopped working and
would just bounce back to the screen saver. I finally tracked this down
to my swap partition failing to load as the UUID had changed.

After running blkid and editing /etc/fstab with the new UUID, swapon -a
loaded swap. I hibernated ok, but then could not resume. I had no swap
again and found the UUID had changed again and did so on every reboot !

The following seems to work and stops my swap partition UUID from
changing

edit the file '/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume' (ie sudo vi
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume) and updated the line that begins
'RESUME=UUID= ' with the new swap partition UUID.
edit the swap entry in /etc/fstab with the new swap partition UUID
'sudo update-initramfs -u' to update the intitrd with the new UUID.

I've hibernated correctly a few times now.

Hi Brian

Any progress on this one?

It looks like an old bug reported and fixed? back in 04.
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3223
That report talks about the patch being planned for submittal to 2.6.10. I'm
wondering if that didn't happen.

I'd be happy to try the patch, but I'm not sure how to patch a Linux
kernel. Are there any good howtos?

Thanks for looking into this. I will try to connect the device and get
the fdisk and dmesg output in the next few days.

could add the output of 'fdisk -l /dev/sda' and 'dmesg' showing the I/O
errors? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 78282] Re: vnc4server does not start Desktop environment after security update

Hi

I think the initial description should say "today 2007-01-06" rather
than "today 2006-01-06".

[Bug 68027] Re: sudo update-manager -c -d crashes during xubuntu upgrade

2006-11-03 Thread grahams1
I ran into double woes when updating to 6.10 and I still could not get my
screen working after I ran
sudo dpkg --configure -a
and reboot

I resorted to downloading the 6.10 install cd and was about to reinstall
but I found my display didn't work off the CD image (display worked fine
on 6.06). This lead me to find out that the mga driver for my Matrox 400
graphics card has another known bug.

A working driver can be found at :

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2006-10-02 Thread grahams1
Similar problem.

Freezing happens within minutes on a Compaq n610c laptop with an
external monitor attached at high screen resolutions (1600x1200
external), (1450x1050 laptop LCD), while running firefox or Thunderbird.
Lower either monitors resolution reduces the freezing rate, but does not
stop it happening.

recently updated to 2.6.15-27-686 and the problem is noticably worse.
