[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100

2010-12-25 Thread grn
Using MSI Wind U120. Was facing the flickering display / brightness problem.
Updating the BIOS to 1.0I solved the problem.

Since many people didn't want to(read 'were scared') to update the BIOS,
I thought it would be a good idea to write down the simple steps. It
took a total of 5 minutes for me in all. This is how I did it:

1. Install 'unetbootin' from synaptic/terminal($sudo apt-get install unetbootin)
2. Insert a USB Drive
3. Launch UNetbootin. It should be in Applications>System
4. Choose Distribution as 'FreeDos'. Select your USB Drive and click OK. It
will automatically download and install FreeDOS on your USB.
5. Download BIOS update from:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1697
and extract the contents into the USB Drive.
6. Boot from the drive, choose 'default' from the main menu, and 'FreeDOS Safe
Mode' from the submenu.
7. 'cd' to your USB Drive, where you copied the BIOS files. (It was drive c:
for me)
7. Run 'FLASH'. After BIOS update completes, disconnect power & remove battery,
and then re-insert it.
8. Start up. The issue is no more.

[Bug 456612] Re: network manager does not connect through CDMA 3G after upgrade

2010-05-16 Thread grn
UPDATE

Jerone's patch works, but is a bit unstable. Intermittently connection drops,
and it takes numerous efforts to reconnect.
Also one cannot use wvdial to connect EC1260 with this version of modem mngr

Reverted to the packaged version of modemmanager. Shall continue testing
on another system.

With Huawei 1260, it is working, but it is very unstable. Does not necessarily
connect everytime. And the lower side is that wvdial does not work either.

I had to install the packaged version of modemmanager and go back to
using wvdial.

Sorted.

Downloaded v0.4.3 from http://convertall.bellz.org/download.html and
installed it by

..$sudo python install.py

It worked.

First uninstall earlier version.
Make sure you have the latest python libraries installed.
After installation.
Start ConvertAll by typing convertall in terminal or Run(Alt+F2)... or create a
menu item with command: convertall

Tried to connect using wvdial. Was successful.
Network manager still does not work.
The rotating spikes freeze on attempting to connect, and after a minute or so,
'Network disconnected' message appears.

[Bug 456612] Re: network manager does not connect through CDMA 3G after upgrade

2009-10-24 Thread grn
Unfortunately the only way I can connect to the internet now is through
the same CDMA modem. So I can't update. Nor can I send an apport-
collect.

I am sending this message from windows on another partition. But I
downloaded the latest RC of Koala, and the problem persists.

[Bug 442988] [NEW] network manager mobile broadband does not remember username and password

2009-10-05 Thread grn
Public bug reported:

Karmic Koala 9.10 x64 Beta

The network manager detects my 3G cdma modem (huawei) in 'Mobile
Broadband' section and also prompts for the new connection wizard on
clicking.

After editing the configuration (Mobile Broadband) and adding username and
password, clicking on 'Apply' closes the window.
I am unable to connect. After I check the configuration, the username and
password section are empty!

Faced this in Live CD as well as after installation.

[Bug 234763] [NEW] Underline single word in CTL languages

2008-05-25 Thread grn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

This is specific to some Complex Text Layout Languages. I am using Indic
languages like Hindi, Bengali and Punjabi.
I have not tested all CTLs or other languages.

If the cursor is anywhere within the word and the bold command is given,
either by 'Ctl+Bold' or by clicking the 'Bold' button, the space after
the word gets underlined too. This is not what is expected. Only the
word on which the cursor is present should be underlined.

The strange thing is that when the same word is Un-underlined by either
the keyboard or click commands, the underline on the adjacent 'space'
does not disappear!

This behaviour is specific only when the cursor is somewhere within in
the word, not when the entire word is selected.
