[Bug 878951] [NEW] Two keyboard indicators are visible in Gnome-Shell

2011-10-20 Thread gururise
Public bug reported:

When using Gnome-Shell 3.2 with multiple keyboard layouts, the gnome
keyboard layout switcher indicator is visible in the top right of the
status bar, while another keyboard layout switcher indicator with a
different icon shows up in the bottom panel...

In upstream gnome-settings-daemon's keyboard plugin, a GtkStatusIcon is
created using libgnomekbd. GNOME Shell blacklists that StatusIcon, since
it is needed in fallback mode but not Shell.

Ubuntu has a patch that replaces the StatusIcon code with an
AppIndicator, which has a StatusIcon fallback. The problem is that the
StatusIcon made by libappindicator has a different WM_CLASS name. I
guess the best solution would be for Ubuntu to make sure that their
indicator patches to GNOME components are bypassed entirely outside of
Unity.

[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness

2009-01-30 Thread gururise
I can confirm this bug. Running on 64-bit Hardy 8.04 LTS with the latest
updates on a Quad Core Q6600 Processor with 4GB of Ram, and 1TB SATA
drive.

Un-raring/un-zipping large files or any prolonged Disk I/O such as
viewing a directory of many thumbnails in Nautilus will bring my system
to a halt, with the mouse either freezing or stuttering until Disk I/O
is complete.

Used to run older versions of Ubuntu on a much humbler machine and had

[Bug 219986] Re: b43 not working on Hardy

2008-04-21 Thread gururise
Ok, I believe I found the cause of this problem. It seems that Kernel
2.4.24 and lower do not have supporting drivers for the Broadcom 4311
and 4312 (rev 02) chipset.

After compiling and installing Kernel 2.4.25, my broadcom 4312 (rev 02) worked
fine using the new drivers. Would it be possible to either:
1) Backport the new b43 driver subsystem from 2.4.25, which supports the newer
rev 02 chipset
-or-
2) Get a 2.4.25 kernel (possibly in Universe) for Hardy

This will affect a majority of new HP Laptop users that are running AMD
processors.

2008-04-20 Thread gururise
Just another tidbit of information. Yesterday, I installed Fedora 9
Preview Release on the same laptop, and also used the b43-fwcutter. The
wifi worked perfectly with Fedora 9, so I believe there is something in
Ubuntu causing these unknown symbols.

[Bug 219986] [NEW] b43 not working on Hardy

2008-04-20 Thread gururise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: b43-fwcutter

I have a HP dv6000 notebook running Turion x2 processor. It uses a
Broadcom BCM 4312 wireless chipset.

lspci gives:
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g (rev 02)

Upon installation of Hardy Release Candidate, I noticed the wireless was
not working. The b43-fwcutter package was not installed, so I installed
it via apt-get. Upon installation, it downloaded the 4.80.53.0 firmware
and finished the installation. I rebooted, and still not wireless.

I noticed the b43 module was not loaded, so I did a: sudo modprobe b43
In the dmesg, I get the following errors:

[Bug 187407] [NEW] openoffice crashes on startup

2008-01-30 Thread gururise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Attempting to start an openoffice application (eg. 'oowriter' or
'oobase') consistently results in the following error:

Error forking '/usr/lib/openoffice/program//soffice': 'Failed to execute
child process "/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice" (Bad address)'

One can successfully start openoffice by running 'openoffice' from the
shell rather than 'oowriter'.

This happens on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy on AMD64 platform with openoffice.org
2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3 installed.

[Bug 141613] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-01-25 Thread gururise
I've attached a screenshot of the npviewer.bin process windows hanging
around on my desktop after a firefox crash. Also, the relevant line
from 'top' is:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
10150 gene 20 0 84956 17m 6964 S 198 0.4 3:50.01 npviewer.bin

Hope this helps someone track down the bug with npviewer.bin, as it
makes firefox all but unusable on 64-bit systems

[Bug 141613] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-01-07 Thread gururise
I can confirm this bug. I am running 7.10 on AMD64 platform. Most of the
crashes seemed to occur after upgrading to the latest flashplugin-
nonfree 9.0.115.0

Firefox will usually not crash; however, npviewer.bin process will crash
and consume 100% cpu on about 50% of flash websites.

This bug makes flash all but unusable on 64-bit Ubuntu platform.

[Bug 138746] Re: CalDAV calenders do not work

2007-10-19 Thread gururise
As far as I know, Evolution only allows read access on iCalendar over
Webdav. Yeah, I know that really sucks!

I think CalDav is Read/Write, so you can collaborate; however, you need
a CalDav server. Apache with mod_dav will not cut it! You can try the
open source Really Simple CalDav Store and let us know if it works with
evolution.

[Bug 153390] Blank Screen on Fresh Install of Gutsy 64bit & Nvidia

2007-10-16 Thread gururise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

My configuration: Intel Q6600 Quad Core, Gigabyte Motherboard - 4GB Ram
- Nvidia 8500GT

Gutsy RC will lose video (ie. go blank screen) during graphical
install... You can get around this by doing a text install; however,
when booting the newly installed system you will lose video at the
bootsplash.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Download Gutsy 64 Bit Release Candidate
2) Do a test install (graphic install doesn't work, as stated above).
3) Boot into the newly installed System...

It seems that the bootsplash is responsible for losing video. The
system does not freeze, in fact it continues booting, but you just never
get your video back, thus rendering it useless.

A temporary fix, that I found, is to change "splash" to "nosplash" in
the grub config. You will not have bootsplash, but at least you can
boot into X after that fix.
