[Bug 1462740] [NEW] Wifi intermittently stops working since 15.04 upgrade
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to 15.04 a couple of weeks ago I have been finding that sometimes my wifi completely stops working. Restarting network manager doesn't help, nor does removing and reinserting the wireless driver. I can get network access through an ethernet cable. Another, possibly related problem I have been experiencing since upgrading to 15.04 is that sometimes wpa_supplicant starts hogging CPU, up to 100% on one core. When I kill it, the replacement instance of wpa_supplicant continues to hog the CPU. I am not sure whether this is caused by the same fault that is causing my wifi to fail. As I send this error report, my machine is in such a crippled state with no wifi and wpa_supplicant slowing everything to a crawl. I noticed that wpa_supplicant was misbehaving only after I had tried removing and reinserting the wifi driver, so I don't know whether the wifi failure problem caused wpa_supplicant to go bananas, or whether it was the fact that I had messed about with the driver. [Bug 1330141] Re: Aptana Studio 3 causes xserver to crash
To be honest I can't remember what I did. It was a couple of months back that I was working on my web site. I have a feeling I may have somehow finished the job in Aptana, because I can't remember sticking with any alternative software. I have both version 3.4.1 and 3.4.2 on my machine, so perhaps I used 3.4.2, but I can't remember for certain. I don't want to test it right now because I am in the middle of something and I don't want any crashes. I can't remember where I got 3.4.2 from either, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I hope that helps at least a little. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1330141 Title: Aptana Studio 3 causes xserver to crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1330141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1330141] Re: Aptana Studio 3 causes xserver to crash
I now suspect that the issue may be something to do with Open Java. I switched to Oracle Java this morning and so far I have not had a crash, although it is still early days. I will let you know if I do get another xserver crash. However I am leaving this as an xorg bug because a misbehaving Java environment should not be able to bring the xserver down.

[Bug 1330141] [NEW] Aptana Studio 3 causes xserver to crash
Public bug reported: I have been using Aptana Studio 3 3.4.1 today and it has caused my xsession to crash several times. I find myself looking at an ASCII console. This only happens when I am actively working with Aptana Studio 3. It happens while doing various actions in Aptana such as browsing directories or editing html files. it didn't happen the last time I used Aptana, which was well over a year ago. There have been reports on the web of Aptana crashing after upgrading to 14.04, but none I can find mention the xserver dying. What should happen: If Aptana has to crash the xserver should not come down with it. [Bug 1319554] [NEW] tumblerd prevents removable media from being unmounted
Public bug reported: I believe this is the same issue as bug 582501, but as that bug report appears to be dead, I am restating it here. Reading around the interwebs, it appears to be a very well known and long-standing bug. tumblerd prevents removable media from being removed. This happened to me this evening with an mp3 player. From what I have read around the web, this happens only when there are video files on the media, and I can confirm that the media I was trying to dismount this evening contained a video file. I have just noticed that the drive I was trying to unmount has finally unmounted while I was researching and writing this report. So it appears that this bug may simply delay unmounting, albeit for an unacceptably long time, rather than outright preventing it. [Bug 1315752] [NEW] Streams in pulseaudio often play a bit slow or a bit fast
Public bug reported: I frequently find that audio streams in pulseaudio are playing at the wrong speed. They are either a bit slow or a bit fast. To my ears I would say that the difference in pitch is probably around one tone, or somewhere around the ratio of 44100Hz to 48000Hz. Killing pulseaudio and letting it get respawned usually fixes the problem. My main audio hardware is a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Example: I have just tried to play a 44100Hz MP3 in Audacious. [Bug 1312607] Re: Cannot launch jackd while pulseaudio running since upgrade to Trusty
The problem seems to have corrected itself with a reboot. I shall mark this as invalid. Just for information, even when I ran pasuspender I couldn't start jack, but the error messages in that case said the sound device was being used by freedesktop.org rather than pulseaudio. It may just have been coincidence that the problem occured after the distribution upgrade. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312607 Title: Cannot launch jackd while pulseaudio running since upgrade to Trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1312607/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1312377] [NEW] libmtp chokes on photos altered by Twitter Android app
Public bug reported: Whenever I upload a photo to Twitter from my phone and then try to copy the same photo to my Ubuntu machine via MTP, the transfer freezes, along with my file manager (Thunar in my case). Unplugging and reconnecting the phone is the only way to get the file manager working again. Photos that have only been uploaded to other services (Tumblr and Facebook are the ones I have tested), but not to Twitter, do not cause this problem. On one occasion I got a libmtp error message which read object type doesn't support RepresentativeSampleData.., but I'm not 100% sure that this is related to the same issue. I am attaching two copies of the same photo. One was copied via MTP before I uploaded it to twitter. The other, which was taken after uploading the photo to Twitter, would not transfer via MTP. [Bug 1311606] [NEW] xfce4 indicator plugin keeps crashing
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Trusty yesterday, the XFCE4 indicator applet no longer works. I can install it in the panel and see all my indicators appear, but within a few seconds it crashes, the indicators disappear and I get a message offering to remove the applet from the panel. I did not have this problem while I was using Saucy. [Bug 1301648] [NEW] deja dup backup appears (misleadingly) to hang on a particular file
Public bug reported: I have just done a back up using deja dup. I tried twice. Each time, the backup appeared to hang on a particular jpeg file (attached). The first time, after waiting perhaps half an hour, I aborted the backup, assuming it had failed. However the second time I let it run and eventually the backup completed as intended. [Bug 1278391] [NEW] Very heavy CPU usage for Facebook in Firefox
Public bug reported: When a tab with the Facebook home page is active in Firefox, Firefox's CPU usage shoots through the roof. It had been very bad for a while, but recently it has got worse, now sticking at almost a constant 100% on one core (of a 1.5GHz Core2Duo), as opposed to around 5-20% when the page is backgrounded or closed. [Bug 1272958] [NEW] Black video from webcam in Cheese and Skype
Public bug reported: The following bug affects both Cheese and Skype, but not guvcview. I had an intermittent problem of the video feed from the webcam failing, apparently after waking from sleep. When I opened Cheese or the video in Skype I would see just black. When this happened the light on the camera would not come on. However the video feed to guvcview continued to work fine and the light would come on in that case. I noticed that this problem became a lot less frequent when I switched from Unity to XFCE, as did another problem of networking failing on waking from sleep, so I suspect there may be a connection between these two problems. What used to happen was that I would either reboot or simply log out and log back into my gui session and the video from the camera would be restored. However when the problem reoccurred yesterday nothing I did would bring the video back to Cheese and Skype, not even rebooting, running Cheese as root or starting a gui session as a different user. This means that video to Cheese and, much more importantly, to Skype is now permanently disabled. The one thing I noticed as being odd which might possibly have contributed to this situation is that when I logged out of my gui session and tried to log back in again, the gui failed to launch and I ended up having to reboot. To summarise: - Webcam video to certain applications, including Cheese and Skype, sometimes fails. - At least one application, namely guvcview, is not affected. - The failure is sometimes capable of persisting through several boot cycles. Needless to say, not being able to do video chat is a very serious bug and a very good reason for a user to look for another operating system. [Bug 1260196] [NEW] Background tasks even with idle priority hog disk access
Public bug reported: I frequently (several times a day) find that my computer becomes almost, and often entirely, unusable for day-to-day tasks because of bouts of disk thrashing. Usually this is not due to swapping but to some background task. This happens even when iotop says that the task in question has idle priority. Example: This morning I was editing a wiki in Firefox when suddenly the disk light came on and I couldn't type or even move the mouse pointer. Several minutes later I came back and finally managed, over a period of several minutes, to switch to a terminal window running iotop, where I saw there was a find / process doing huge disk reads. This process had idle priority. What should happen: Tasks with idle priority should yield to more urgent tasks, such as normal desktop applications, so that the user is not forced to abandon the computer until the background task is finished. [Bug 1232727] [NEW] Extracting zip archives in mc is horribly slow
Public bug reported: I have just extracted a zip archive using mc and it was horribly slow. The archive was 108MB with a lot of source code and documentation, i.e. a mainly small files, and it took many minutes. At one point the ETA was over 30 minutes, at which point I cancelled the operation and started again, but it remained very slow. Typically the same operation would take unzip a matter of seconds. There was no noticeable CPU load coming from the extraction operation. [Bug 1232606] [NEW] Nautilus freezes accessing Android via MTP when USB debugging enabled
Public bug reported: Nautilus started freezing on me when I tried to access certain folders on my Android phone (Sony Xperia P) via MTP, such as the DCIM folder. I would have to kill Nautilus and then unplug and reconnect the phone. Sometimes after this the phone would be in the list of devices, but when I clicked on it no volume would appear. Thunar didn't show the same freezing behaviour, but once the volume stopped appearing in Nautilus it would stop appearing in Thunar too. This behaviour continued even after I did a factory reset on the phone. I could not reproduce the behaviour in Windows 7. Disabling USB debugging on the phone fixed the problem. [Bug 1222730] [NEW] adjacent short rows of pixels get swapped round
Public bug reported: On my Thinkpad R61i with i915 graphics I often find that many adjacent short horizontal rows of pixels get swapped with each other suddenly and for no apparent reason (see screenshot). This can apparently happen in any window. In a possibly related incident, yesterday all my displayed text suddenly turned to barely recognisable Klingon and I was forced to log out and log back in again. [Bug 1222903] [NEW] hydrogen is missing jack transport buttons
Public bug reported: The Jack transport buttons have disappeared from Hydrogen and it is no longer possible to sync it with other Jack clients. [Bug 1219786] [NEW] Frantic disk activity by check-new-release makes system temporarily almost unusable
Public bug reported: A little while ago my system suddenly became extremely slow, to the point of being unusable for normal work. This went on for several minutes. The disk light was on constantly. On running iotop I discovered that the main culprit was a .../check-new-release -q process. [Bug 182578] Re: Message moving/copying should have a real progress bar
I think this design error is more serious than the report above suggests. I am currently trying to sync 1GB of Gmail data and you would really be forgiven for thinking Evolution has completely stalled because there is no information and all the little spinning wheel animations have all stopped spinning. The only reason I haven't assumed the worst and forced Evolution to quit has been because I have been using iotop to confirm that Evolution is still writing to disk. When a process can take hours or even days (which is what a sync with a full Gmail mailbox would take) you really do need to know whether or not something is still happening. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182578 Title: Message moving/copying should have a real progress bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/182578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1213371] [NEW] 3TB hard drive is mistaken for two smaller drives
Public bug reported: I have just bought a 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 hard drive which I attach to my machines as an external USB drive. When I open gparted it sees the drive as two drives, one of 2TB (/dev/sdb) and one of ~0.7TB (/dev/sdc). I have tried tricks such as creating a new GPT table but nothing I do will make Linux see the drive as a single disk capable of supporting a 2.7TB partition. The drive is seen as a 2.7TB drive in Windows 7, but only after installing Seagate Disk Wizard. I have tried creating a new GPT in Windows, but that only causes gparted to crash when I go back into Linux and has to be fixed in gdisk. I can't remember gdisk's exact message, but it said something to the effect of the actual size (2TB) of the disk being smaller than the declared size. I am reporting this from a 32-bit installation, but I have reproduced the bug on an up-to-date 64-bit installation of UbuntuStudio 13.04. The machines involved are a Thinkpad R61i (the 32-bit installation) and a Dell Optiplex 330 (64-bit). The machines are both around 5 or 6 years old. [Bug 1211283] [NEW] Application freeze escalates until whole system locks up
Public bug reported: Twice today my machine has locked up in the same way and in the same circumstances. In both cases it started with Firefox freezing. At this point I could still switch between windows move windows around the desktop. However when I clicked the X in the corner to close the Firefox window, the desktop became completely unresponsive. I could still move the mouse pointer around, but I couldn't click on anything. I could also switch to another virtual console using ctrl-alt-F1 etc. In the virtual console I could type my name at the prompt and press enter, but apart from the cursor moving down a line, nothing would happen. After a while I got 9 or so messages on the console of the form INFO: task mount.ntfs:2725 blocked for more than 120 seconds, followed by echo 0 /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs disables this message. The other messages related to: firefox, Socket Thread, DNS Res~ver (3 times), cron, xfwm4 and getty. Apart from these messages nothing else changed for the several minutes until I forced a shutdown. I could return the console cursor to the next line, I could switch between terminals and I could move the mouse pointer about, but I couldn't do anything else. [Bug 754776] [NEW] pulseaudio dies during sleep-wake cycle
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Pulseaudio often dies and re-spawns either while going to sleep or waking from sleep. [Bug 725790] [NEW] HDA sound changes default between digital and analog for no reason
Public bug reported: Recently I have been finding that sometimes when I boot pulseaudio connects to my Intel sound's analog inputs and outputs, and sometimes it connects to the digital. [Bug 723065] [NEW] only digital audio available on HDA device when analogue wanted
Public bug reported: All of a sudden and for no apparent reason I have found pulseaudio connecting to the digital rather than analogue audio I/O when it starts. When I open alsamixer it appears that digital is all that is available. This doesn't happen every time, so logging out, killing pulseaudio, removing and reloading the snd-hda-intel module, and then logging back in again, usually puts it right. What should happen is that the inputs and outputs that you want to use for your sound card should be the ones that are made available and selected. Always. I should mention, just in case there is some connection, that my KDE startup has started failing at around the same time. What happens is that many of my autostart scripts and applications don't start. A third thing that has started recently has been that Flash and Skype both seem to be disconnecting themselves from Pulseaudio very frequently, requiring them to be killed and restarted. [Bug 445989] Re: Poor Rx on TL-WN422G wifi adapter (zd1211rw driver)
@Jose: Do you mean that the performance of the card is poor, or just that the reported signal strength is low? I ask this because I use this card and it performs well (i.e. better than my laptop's internal wifi adapter) even though the software tell me that the signal strength is low. As far as I can tell, the maximum it will go to is exactly 50% when it is right next to the access point. i would expect a less tidy number if the card were genuinely having trouble communicating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445989 Title: Poor Rx on TL-WN422G wifi adapter (zd1211rw driver) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 694610] [NEW] cannot set input volume on conexant venice
Public bug reported: I cannot set the input sound level on the external input of my Conexant Venice audio device on my Thinkpad R61i via the codec. (The internal mic doesn't work at all.) Steps to reproduce: 1. Plug in an external mic. 2. Fire up an application that allows you to observe input audio levels. 3. Start saying '1 2 1 2 1 2... 4. Adjust both the INTERNAL mic input level (because of another bug in which the internal mic controls control the external mic and the external mic controls control nothing) 5. You will not see any change in the recording level, and you will probably experience clipping if you are using a headset mic. The workaround for this is to fire up hda_analyzer. Adjusting val(o) and val(1) on node 0x1a does the stuff.
