[Bug 1973660] Re: [vmwgfx] Login screen not refreshing properly on vSphere
Yes, I intended to use Xorg by setting WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf. After I switched to Wayland, this problem disappeared. Could you please give me some hints how to identify it's a bug in the VMware Xorg graphics driver? [Bug 1806825] [NEW] Akonadi information management service is not operational
Public bug reported: I installed KAddressbook through the included application manager but when it runs the following error displays: "The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational." I am running Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver which I installed and updated today December 4, 2018, so it should have all the current patches installed. Also, I seem to remember a similar problem when I installed kaddressbook in Ubuntu 16.04. As the message indicates the Akonadi database is not working or so it appears. Apparently, the installation process for Kaddressbook does not take into account all the dependencies. I have been using Synaptic package manager to install Akonadi packages but do not know which Akonadi packages are required. At the Kaddressbook support site (https://userbase.kde.org/KAddressBook_4.4) it also mentions that Nepomuk must be running. In short, the application manager should automatically install the necessary dependencies along with the kaddressbook application and it does not. I will try to update this bug report when I know a work around. [Bug 1617058] Re: tightvncserver crash on startup (s390x - int code 003b)
I have been supporting Linux on this platform since 1999 and am very familiar with the cautions of running graphical applications on headless systems. VNC is only used for this function and not to run a xwindows desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1617058 Title: tightvncserver crash on startup (s390x - int code 003b) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tightvnc/+bug/1617058/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, The problem still persists with thre kernel v.315-rc5-utopic. Also, I now ought an additional externel wireless usb adapter to try and circumvent the probkem. [Bug 1318012] Re: 148f:2570 Wireless LAN reported as Hard blocked ONLY in Linux (dual boot system) although device is not deactivated
The problem persists after installing and booting the new mainline kernel "v3.15-rc4-utopic". The new kernel does boot, however, there were problems when trying to install the respective "linux_headers*.deb". Not sure if that counts as "kernel-unable-to-test-upstream". Therefore, ill change the status as confirmed, as you suggested. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318012 Title: 148f:2570 Wireless LAN reported as Hard blocked ONLY in Linux (dual boot system) although device is not deactivated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1318012/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 511463] Re: grub-pc failed to install/upgrade: exit status 1 - frontend: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
I'll try to be a little more clear. Installed Ubuntu last year inside Vista machine. Got rid of it and bought new mach w/7. Installed 10.04 Monday on it inside Win7. Next day dowloaded ALL updates. Installed till grub and just stopped. Then window came up install without grub: yes or no. Tried with and still no action. So, restarted on Ubuntu and it finished install w/out grub. Works ok. So, I ran updated manager again and it said no updates at this time. " You are up to date." Not frustrated! Oh, I dont understand the terminal, manual load thingy. I tried command, sudo dpkg -- configure-a whatever. No such command. I have lots computor experience but I'm no programmer or developer. It' working for now so I can get familiar with all this when I get my Linux only machine built. I am experienced w/ repair and building. Yep! I really like it. Had the last 'version' and just installed 10.04. Building a new PC with only Linux. Haven't been back to update mgr. yet to look. Thanks for answer. Keep in touch. [Bug 545709] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 5.10.91 and BCM4312 wireless
3/31/2010 I tried compiling the driver from the Broadcom website. http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php But when I download the necesary libraries and run the makefile it creates the files and then deletes them immediately. Perhaps this link will be helpfull for someone else. 4/20/2010 I installed Ubuntu 9.10 i386 and the issue was resolved by installing the bcmwl-kernel-source package with the Synaptic Package Manager. This was on the same system that showed the above issue with Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 installed. The issue appears in the amd64 version but has not been an issue in i386 version even after using the system for several weeks. Note: I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 i386 and am happy with it. I finally got the Broadcom wireless BCM4312 driver to stick. (See the following link. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1308788&page=2) Also, the system boots up with the wireless off by default. Re: [Bug 306965] Re: on trying to install any application receive error: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the download dir
Chris, I wasn't aware at the time of any other instance of synaptic running, ie: no other applications open on screen. Although here are some more details to add which had not come to mind earlier : There are 2 users on the system, 1 administrator and 1 user. I had given administrator rights to the user temporarily in order to install some games on their desktop. At the time of the error I was logged in to the user account. I later found that when logged into the administrator account, perfoming the same task (installing applications) met with no problems at all. I also realised it was not necessary to enable administrator priviliges on the user account in order to install games. I hope this helps. I too get the same thing. Occassionally, I can get lyx started by reinstalling it, but it still doesn't load any document. When running empty, telling it to reconfigure yields a "Reconfiguration has failed" message, with the only error indicated on the stderr output being "mktexmf ecrm1000" failing. -- lyx 1.3.5.1 crashes as soon as it starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225686] [NEW] Optra E310 ids as E312 under 8.04
Public bug reported: After upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 on an AMD64 system, lsusb now says: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 043d:000c Lexmark International, Inc. Optra E312 Printer for my E310. However, it is correctly identified by the print system as an E310. The problem is that, although everything works, I keep getting a pop-up that says: Not connected! Printer 'Optra-E310' may not be connected. I assume this false message is rooted in the database used by lsusb BTW, "may" I presume should have been "might" -- I don't think permissions are involved. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Optra E310 ids as E312 under 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225686 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 205042] [NEW] Scroll function
Public bug reported: v 8.04 beta - Expected to be able to scroll through my docs and Gmail inbox as usual, using either the scroll bar or the mouse wheel. Unable to scroll up, down or sideways immediately with either the scroll bars or the mouse wheel. There is a delay of about 1/2 second before anything happens If drag scroll bar down (or use scroll wheel on mouse) rapidly the display will "gray out", then return with normal brightness on some page in a document. This happening in all applications, including OO and Gmail. Display has no smooth scroll. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Scroll function https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 62858] shmctl man differs from kernel operation
Public bug reported: shmget() allows creation of shared memory segments with key_t key values that can be used by other processes to identify them. Traditionally, under Linux the shmctl() call could be used to caused a shared memory segment to destroy itself upon the last detachment by IPC_RMID, and this would have no other impact on the operation of the shared memory segment. This behavior of IPC_RMID is documented (in the shmctl man page) and is quite useful. However, setting IPC_RMID in recent Linux kernels has the important side effect of CHANGING the key associated with the segment to 0 (aka, IPC_PRIVATE). Ideally, this side effect should be removed from the kernel, but the kernel folks seem unlikely to do this (the new behavior was mentioned in a discussion). Thus, I suggest fixing the shmctl man page to mention this strange behavior in the discussion of IPC_RMID: after "IPC_STAT will be set." add the phrase "The segment key may be changed to IPC_PRIVATE as a side effect of IPC_RMID." ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- shmctl man differs from kernel operation https://launchpad.net/bugs/62858 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
