[Bug 1788073] Re: Wifi adapter not found after suspend (iwlwifi)

2018-10-11 Thread hardyn
The problem also affects the "airplane mode". The loss of wifi
connectivity can be restored by entering and exiting airplane mode
provides the option to reenable the wifi board. Additionally, using the
fn+ key combination airplane mode can be manually entered, but not
exited. (which seems to be a common 18.04 problem, with a simple web
search).

I have just updated to the latest Dell firmware version for this device
with no improvement.

I didn't put as much work in, but exactly the same problem. Unable to
add new device using GUI. Removed all the devices as I thought that
might help. It didn't.

Added devices though the CLI. Which worked, GUI still shows no devices.

[Bug 698160] Re: Natty: Kernel 2.6.37 - suspend broken

2011-07-11 Thread hardyn
Similar,

ubuntu 11.04 x86_64
2.5.38-8-generic

same suspend symptoms as above, however in addition "shutdown" restarts
the computer, restart also restarts the computer.

I will do some investigation, but i don't recall this happening prior to
installing a RT2800 based pcie-wifi board. not saying this started it,
but just don't remember having this problem before; as i did a bunch of
updates as well after installing the board.

kernel panic with hardy fully updated and netgear wg311v2 PCI card as
well.

in attempting to connect to a wireless router, the connection will not
be established (no green dots in network manager) password entry screen
will appear and a kernel panic will occur.

wifi will connect successfully if a wired connection to the same router
is made and maintained while being connected as a wireless client.

With your log file actually referencing a specific block, might you have

[Bug 155233] notebook lid switch not triggering suspend since feisty+1/2

2007-10-20 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

having the same trouble as, https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114595 with
Asus z71vp pentium M based notebook the problem seems to have become a
little worse in gusty. the lid switch does not work at all (sorta)...
the notebook does suspend just fine using the fn+ key combination. The
display does blank, so i would assume the switch is being polled or
interrupted correctly, but something is happening when it comes to the
suspending. As in previous posts they have requested some the dmesg
output as well as the dmidecode.

suggesting it has something to do with the response given by the

I respect that these kind of things happy from time to time, when when a
update like this looks like it might pose a problem for a great number
of users, It would be really nice if Ubuntu or an Ubuntu dev. could make
some sort of a statement acknowledging that they recognize that their is
a problem and a solution is on the way; or there will not be a fix for
some reasons... i think it would go a long way in defusing the anxiety
behind such trouble.

thanks.

[Bug 109357] Re: gnome crashes upon relogin

2007-04-23 Thread hardyn
This was present for me in edgy with fglrx video driver.
log in was fine, session was fine, changing users was fine, changing back would
result in a black screen and seemingly hung X-session.
This was not present with the radeon driver.

as the symptoms are identical (expained a little better on the ubuntuforums.org
website by the bug reporter
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2513800#post2513800)
it looks like it might be video driver related, and whatever caused this issue
with the fglrx driver, may now be present in the intel driver.

i was using an ATI 9800 pro with fglrx driver, edgy.

[Bug 109323] notebook will not reboot while on battery

2007-04-23 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

rebooting will not complete while notebook is running on battery.

Every works normally on AC power, after removing from AC power, allowing to
suspend, recovering from suspend, and then rebooting results in an incomplete
reboot... hangs and will not restart. must power down though power button to
reboot machine. (holding for 4 seconds)
This is fully repeatable.

Asus z71vp, Feisty, Nvidia binary drivers, laptop-mode enabled.

[Bug 106902] losing audo sync when watching videos

2007-04-15 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

I don't recall having the problem with edgy; with feisty, even after a few
minutes, a played-back video seems to lose audio sync and can be out my as much

the audio can be resynced by fast-forwarding or rewinding just a little;

[Bug 90896] Network-Manager misbehaving after recient update

2007-03-09 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After a full 6mo of having network-manager working perfectly, recently
it has stopped seeing all SSIDs in range. and seems now to only have
visibility of the highest signal strength unprotected network,
consistently. (there are 6-8 WIFI routers in my area that until recently
were all visible, some protected, some not)

disabling network-manager and restarting sometimes allows full visibility, or
if i already have full visibility will end full visibility.
rebooting the system sometimes allows for full visibility.

the symptom has only been present for about a week, a week where there
was a few updates.

i have no connectivity trouble with windows (dual boot machine) so i am
reluctant to dismiss as a hardware trouble.

i am running an Asus z71v notebook with ipw2200 network driver (i2915)
edgy currently updated, with gnome
i have reinstalled all the network manager component with no improvement
i have re-modprobed the ipw2200 with no improvement.

[Bug 73275] Re: P-M high idle CPU usage, reported as fixed, persists in edgy

2007-01-14 Thread hardyn
i spoke to ben collins about this (kernel guy), and apparently the i386
kernel in feisty has been upgraded to have uni-processor generic cpu
support, thus virtully the same kernel as the default "generic" kernel
with an expected performace loss of about 1%. I suspect that this
problem will not be chased, and this new i386 has been provided as the
solution to such problems. With this problem, seeming being isolated to
Asus and Sony PM notebooks, i sure they will just let the problem
disappear into obsolecence. (the M6a and FS might even be the same
notebook, i know that Asus is an OEM to many notebook manufacturers)

[Bug 75510] Re: Feisty wish list: Non-SMP 686 Kernel

2006-12-12 Thread hardyn
There a few cases of penitum M bases machines, sony vaio, asus, and mabe
others, that the SMP kernel causes a CPU run-away problem. Idle CPU
usage of 40% at idle.

The problem was reported in dapper and fixed for a majority of systems,
but this problem exists still for a few, bug fixes have been filed to
attempt to open this problem, but haven't seemed to have gained any
traction. If this problem will not be fixed in future "generic"
kernels; seems like a simple fix to offer a 'not on the cd' replacement
kernel.

[Bug 73275] P-M high idle CPU usage, reported as fixed, persists in edgy

2006-11-25 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

exactly the same problem with high P-M cpu usage as reported in dapper
and marked as fixed in bug #30557; seems persist in edgy with "generic"
kernel.

problem can be worked around in same manner as previous by adding
maxcstate comment in start up script.

surveying the ubuntuforums.org, the problem seems to most commonly
reported on Asus P-M and Vaio P-M based notebooks.

Most reports are for Asus M6a, or Z70 notebooks (same notebook) and Vaio
FS.

simptoms are same as before, high idle cpu usage, 20-30% with radical
fluctuations, adding maxcstate seems correct symptoms, at what
performance penalty?

display as checked or as package being installed. Add remove programs
should have backward and forward resolution of synaptic packages.

again, not a bug, as i don't think this functionality was intended; but
adding this intelligence to add/remove programs would be a nicety.

[Bug 30557] Re: cpu idle time in /proc/stat wrong

2006-11-01 Thread hardyn
i am still having the problem of high CPU usage while idle, movie
playback choppy etc. The maxcstate patch does take care of the problem.
it appears that some effort has be taken to fix this, although i doesn't
work with my configuration.

asus z70va notebook pent. m. w/ fglrx driver.

is this an issue that is still being looked into, or could something
else in my configuration still be causing this problem?

thanks
Arlen

[Bug 69324] Re: Hang on Suspend... and shutdown...

appears to be related to fglrx driver and not the kernel.

sit tight for the ATI boys and girls :)

[Bug 69324] Re: Hang on Suspend... and shutdown...

2006-10-31 Thread hardyn
seems to be entirely related to fglrx driver... shuts down with "radeon"
driver, have not tested suspend, update when available.
may be part of xorg 7.1 fglrx incompatibility problem that has already been
reported.

[Bug 69324] Hang on Suspend... and shutdown...

2006-10-30 Thread hardyn
Public bug reported:

Edgy 6.10 Hangs always on suspend to ram, and sometimes with shutdown.

graphics screen becomes corrupt and CPU runs away, system is hung; must
be powered down and restarted. i have not tested suspend to disk.
shutdown has exactly the same symptoms but shutdown "music" also gets
stuck in a loop (one tone) after screen has been corrupted, again must
be powered down.

Asus z70va, pentium m, 1024mb ram, ati x700 using fglrx driver

Thanks

[Bug 30570] Re: CPU usage very high with no running tasks using it

2006-10-29 Thread hardyn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 30557 ***

Ditto...

I was kinda hoping that this might have been figured out in the new
"generic" kernel in edgy.

Is this rc.local fix going to be the recognized solution? or is there
going to be a more hands-off solution in the future?

thanks

again asus z70va w/ pent. m
