[Bug 771474] [NEW] udev name/symlink rules give permission denied error
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev I was just trying to create a rule to create a /dev/lirc symlink from the appropriate /dev/input/event* but kept running into permissioning issues. The following udev rules (both give the same result) when placed in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules: KERNEL=="event*",ATTRS{vendor}=="0x14f1",SYMLINK+="lirc" #KERNEL=="event*",ATTRS{vendor}=="0x14f1",NAME="lirc" ...should produce a symbolic link at /dev/lirc to the pertinent /dev/input/event* (but don't) when I run: $ sudo restart udev ...but they do produce "permission denied" errors when I run: $ udevadm test $(udevadm info -q path -n /dev/input/event3) (assuming it's event3 today) ...however running as root creates the symlink just fine: $ sudo udevadm test $(udevadm info -q path -n /dev/input/event3) They are however picked up as the same udevadm output reads: "udev_rules_apply_to_event: LINK 'lirc' /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules:1" BTW, This rule should do effectively the same thing but fails silently, presumably for the same permissioning reason: KERNEL=="event*",ATTRS{vendor}=="0x14f1",RUN+="sudo ln -fs /dev/input/%k /dev/lirc" I've applied a workaround by hacking /etc/init.d/lirc as per http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/LIRC#Troubleshooting but it's frightfully inelegant. [Bug 637930] Re: Maverick: Wireless is disabled until network-manager restart
I've attached the syslog as requested, but bizarrely, the network-manager restart doesnt fix it now, like it did before. I cant remember but I might have run update-manager last night so that could have changed things. Nothing in synaptic's history though. (Does update-manager keep a different history file?) But the problem is different than I originally understood. It's actually just the "Enable Wireless" option on the right-click menu that's disabled. The wireless still works just fine. When I use dbus-send to turn it on and off by hand I can see wireless networks on the left-click menu of the network-manager icon when its on, and of course none when it's off, but the "Enable Wireless" option is still greyed out on the right-click menu: dbus-send --system --type=method_call --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set string:org.freedesktop.NetworkManager string:WirelessEnabled variant:boolean:false What more can I provide you with? [Bug 637930] [NEW] Maverick: Wireless is disabled until network-manager restart
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Since upgrading to Maverick, when I boot up and right click on my network-manager icon in the notification area, there is no "Enable Wireless" option, as if it cannot detect the presence of my wireless card. [Bug 306302] [NEW] lirc usage in mythtv causes excessive gnome-screensaver usage, slows to a crawl
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv When pressing remote buttons to navigate in mythtv, mythtv takes 2-3 seconds to respond, causing very high cpu usage in gnome-screensaver. Kill gnome-screensaver and it works fine again. Was temporarily solved when I changed mythtv to use Qt4 instead of OpenGL, but the problem reappeared after next reboot. Current fix is to kill gnome-screensaver after each boot. ** Affects: mythtv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- lirc usage in mythtv causes excessive gnome-screensaver usage, slows to a crawl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 206899] [NEW] gnome-screensaver slideshow freezes mid-fade, leaving ghost of previous image
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver When gnome-screensaver is set to the Pictures Folder theme (personal- slideshow.desktop), the slideshow appears to freeze mid-fade on every 3rd or 4th transition, leaving a ghost of the previous image until the next image is displayed. Otherwise, it's fully responsive. I'd be happy if I could just disable the fade transitions so it does a straight cut, but /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/slideshow doesnt appear to provide said option. I'm on hardy, kernel 2.6.24-12-386, with gnome-screensaver 2.21.6-0ubuntu3. It's a bog standard Dell Dimension 5100 except for a GeForce 7300GS and Hauppauge TV card. But the thing is this problem also existed on gutsy. I do run mythbackend on this box, but it's rarely doing much. My processor sits at around 11% utilisation normally, but these freezes happen nearly all the time. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-screensaver slideshow freezes mid-fade, leaving ghost of previous image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206899 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
