[Bug 1912646] Re: Ubuntu 20.10 freeze after update

2021-01-22 Thread Haug Bürger
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected wayland-session

** Description changed:

After the update to 20.10 (from 20.04) the laptop freezes regularly.
Screen is frozen, mouse cursor frozen and the only chance to recover is
to switch off. Since it is hard to tell which part is broken I appended
the kernel logs of the last boot. I found two "[ cut here
]" in the logs which seems to be a bad sign.

- I tried different kernels 5.8.0-36, 5.8.0-38, 5.8.0-40 and a 5.10.8 from
- the kernel team. All freeze.
+ I tried different kernels 5.8.0-36, 5.8.0-38, 5.8.0-40 and a 5.10.8 from the

[Bug 1813843] Re: [nouveau] Xorg crash

2019-01-29 Thread Haug Bürger
I'm not sure If I have exactly the same issue, booting:
Linux version 4.15.0-44-generic (buildd@lcy01-amd64-010) (gcc version 7.3.0
(Ubuntu 7.3.0-16ubuntu3)) #47-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 14 11:26:59 UTC 2019 (Ubuntu
4.15.0-44.47-generic 4.15.18)

I can login and after that black screen, num lock doesn't work any more. My fix
was to boot the old kernel:
Linux ZALANDO-27144 4.15.0-43-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 6 14:45:28 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

For me 4.15.0-44-generic is broken!

[Bug 1777863] Re: [drm:intel_wait_ddi_buf_idle [i915]] *ERROR* Timeout waiting for DDI BUF C idle bit

2018-06-27 Thread Haug Bürger
I currently run on mainline 4.17.3-041703-generic #201806252030 SMP Tue
Jun 26 00:33:17 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and it didn't
occur again. With the 4.15.0-23 I had up to 4 spontaneous reboots an
office day.

Re: [Bug 1587749] Re: random 1-2s black screen

2016-07-03 Thread Haug Bürger
Hi Christopher,

I'll check if I'm able to update, it's a business notebook where I have
limited access. I have to check what's possible there.

What I tried is the latest stable mainline kernel 4.6.3 which improves
the situation significantly. At least the NB doesn't crash any more
putting it back to the docking station.

The mainline kernel doesn't support Docker (AUFS missing) which makes it
problematic for me.

I keep you posted
Haug

[Bug 1587749] [NEW] random 1-2s black screen

2016-06-01 Thread Haug Bürger
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo T450s with docking station and 2 display port monitors
on it.

I experience black screens for about a second. Usually one of the
external monitors only. One external display turns black and comes back
after 1 or 2 seconds. This happens >10 times a day and is really
annoying.

My colleague experiencing the same issue, also using Ubuntu 16.04. Same
hardware.

At home I have a similar issue, also with Intel motherboard graphics.
Different hardware.

Re: [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2010-04-11 Thread Eckart Haug
Your logfile ends when the server tries to initialize DRI.
I have Xorg ver 1.7.6 (part of Ubuntu 10.04). My logfile contains the lines

(WW) MGA(0): Direct rendering is not supported when Xinerama is enabled
(EE) MGA(0): [drm] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.

Maybe somebody realized that DRI doesn't work with dual heads and
disabled it.

To find out, try

   Option "DRI" "off"

in the device section (and make shure it's really in effect by looking
at the log file)

[Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2010-04-04 Thread Eckart Haug
Here's a Andy's patch against the new source version on
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-mga/xserver-xorg-video-mga_1.4.11.dfsg.orig.tar.gz
 (15-Aug-2009)

I did an additional change for the framebuffer unmapping: The
dev->regions[] array always contains the full size of the framebuffer
bar. In Xinerama mode, temporary mappings of smaller sizes are created.
The unmapping of these failed in my case if the size was taken from the
regions[] array. In the new patch, pMga->FbMapSize is used instead.

binaries might eventually appear in

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-syntacs/+archive/ppa

** Patch added: "mga-driver-4.patch"

[Bug 125537] Re: Realtek r8169 & ethtool

2009-03-25 Thread Eckart Haug
Works with 2.6.24-23-generic, e.g.

ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 autoneg off.
Autonegotiation standard is on and will immediately switch back to 1000.
-> switch autoneg off to keep non standard settings.

Best place for permanent setting is /etc/network/interfaces

e.g.

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
   post-up ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 autoneg off

[Bug 181996] Re: NFS server: lockd: server not responding

2009-02-17 Thread Eckart Haug
(Storm)
I was using the nolock option since then - that means work with locking
disabled,
wich - of course - worked.

On 10.02. I enabled locking again to give it a try. No problems since then.
Kernels are 2.6.24-23-generic on both client and server
nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common are 1:1.1.2-2ubuntu2.2

I still don't think it's a new problem - it just shows up in very special cases,
whch we don't know. Over here it disappeared as randomly as it appeared before
- and you still have it. When did it appear in your site ? Which changes did
you make
before ?

If you post, have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies
Over here, we're on our own now.

[Bug 181996] Re: NFS server: lockd: server not responding

2008-10-12 Thread Eckart Haug
I tried the generic kernel (as opposed to server). Worked for a couple of days,
then same again.
Until about 4 weeks ago, the problem appeared sporadically, then almost every
day - without
any change to the server (no automatic updates). It might depend on
configuratin or certain
packages on the client. My home resides on the server. Within the time under
question I installed
virtual box on the client. It adds a script which adds a tap device (but
doesn't activate a bridge).
Might also depend on my slow server hw (PIII-866/256MB).
I'm mounting nolock for the moment :-)), seems to work fine

[Bug 181996] Re: NFS server: lockd: server not responding

2008-10-07 Thread Eckart Haug
Upgrading to hardy won't help, still the same;

client:
2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 22:56:21 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

says:

responding, still trying
Oct 7 10:54:16 lagaffe kernel: [ 3101.624752] lockd: server tide not
responding, still trying

server:

responding, timed out

[Bug 125537] Re: Realtek r8169 & ethtool

2008-10-07 Thread Eckart Haug
thanx a lot, wj313 !

Same here - on two 8.04 machines, kernels

2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 22:56:21 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

and

2.6.24-19-server #1 SMP Sat Jul 12 00:40:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

not the best idea to take out the media option support from r8169 while
ethtool support doesn' work properly :-))
