[Bug 775346] Re: close / min / max button location inconsistent with metacity / global app menu settings

2011-10-22 Thread heggink
it is particularly annoying if you are also using windoze (with,
unfortunately, no option to change). It's a hassle to constantly have to
remind yourself what system you are on in order to find the close
button. Better yet, I also moved the control buttons to the right and
removed the global menu (as needed more similarity with windoze) and
now, even within ubuntu, I get confused. The beauty of linux is freedom
and choice so hope this gets aligned quickly (thanks in advance).

[Bug 810732] Re: Netatalk shows kernel panic in syslog when trying to connect to server in OS X 10.6.8. Worked fine before upgrade to ocelot

2011-10-19 Thread heggink
All,

Followed the instructions and got my iMac backing-up again (finally,
phew). I deleted the old backup to start with a fresh new one. iMac
indicating that it had 171Gb to back up. Started nicely for the first
couple of hours until it bailed out stating the backup device was no
longer available (du -s of the Timemachine directory on my ubuntu box
gives 151G stored so suspect it bailed out before the end). Nothing in
the logs and afpd still running. Restarted all the services but still no
joy: iMac does not see the backup device anymore.

Any thoughts on where to look for why it failed and won't find mu ubuntu
box (i386 running the server kernel)?

One other thing, I installed netatalk from teh ubuntu repos. afpd -V
gets me a version of 2.0.5, NOT 2.2 beta??

Appreciate the help.

Herman

[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver

2009-04-28 Thread heggink
After upgrading to Jaunty, I found that my CPU load would constantly be stuck
around 60% (which using an E8400 on an idle system is rather strange). Could
not find any cause until I replaced vino with x11vnc. After uninstalling vino,
not only was my system load back to idle load (few %) but also HD video runs
much more smoothly than it ever did + x11vnc works perfectly with (using
noxdamage, haven't tried without) all desktop effects enabled.
I run Geforece8500GT, E8400 with 4GB on a shuttle barebone.

i know the CPU issue is a different bug. What I said was that vino
caused my CPU issue and vino also happens to be the vnc server. Too much
coincidence for me.

Re: [Bug 77442] Re: compiz / vnc screen updates with nVidia restricted

2009-04-28 Thread heggink
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 353126 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126

I have a 100Mb connection from my XP PC to my switch and then gigabit to
the ubuntu box. Running at full colors, I can't watch video but for
normal screen operations it works really well for me (no delays at all).
Have not tried without the -noxdamage.
