[Bug 964750] [NEW] nfs/rpc.statd becomes unresponsive
Public bug reported: We've tested this on: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 11.10, and Debian 6.0.4, all on x64, current updates, and a pretty vanilla installation. Condition summary: We have ~1600 users with live network homes, all Mac clients. There's typically around 150 simultaneous connections. Under these conditions, we can reliably get NFS to become unresponsive within a couple of hours, just by logging in ~150 users and opening Word (for example). There's no clear indication on what exactly causes the failures. Being Mac clients 10.6 and below, these are using NFS3. We've tested using one physical server, with a hardware RAID and an ext3 filesystem. We've also tested on two separate VMs with ext4. All systems in question used LVM. Here's what our server logs indicate when the failures happen: Mar 23 15:40:47 debfs mountd[2365]: authenticated mount request from 172.30.109.132:1020 for /srv/homes (/srv/homes) Mar 23 15:40:58 debfs mountd[2365]: authenticated mount request from 172.30.109.73:1020 for /srv/homes (/srv/homes) Mar 23 15:41:06 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.106.249 Mar 23 15:41:06 debfs mountd[2365]: authenticated mount request from 172.30.109.27:1020 for /srv/homes (/srv/homes) Mar 23 15:41:09 debfs mountd[2365]: authenticated mount request from 172.30.109.63:1020 for /srv/homes (/srv/homes) Mar 23 15:41:14 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.106.249 ** Mar 23 15:41:19 debfs kernel: [ 8395.736310] statd: server rpc.statd not responding, timed out ** Mar 23 15:41:19 debfs kernel: [ 8395.736331] lockd: cannot unmonitor hs13406s4354.dsdk12.schoollocal Mar 23 15:41:38 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.137.223 Mar 23 15:41:52 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.137.223 Mar 23 15:41:54 debfs kernel: [ 8430.737038] statd: server rpc.statd not responding, timed out Mar 23 15:41:54 debfs kernel: [ 8430.737054] lockd: cannot unmonitor hslib23s5174.dsdk12.schoollocal Mar 23 15:42:10 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.110.25 Mar 23 15:42:15 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.110.25 Mar 23 15:42:29 debfs kernel: [ 8465.737071] statd: server rpc.statd not responding, timed out Mar 23 15:42:29 debfs kernel: [ 8465.737090] lockd: cannot unmonitor MS20603S4451.dsdk12.schoollocal Mar 23 15:42:31 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.110.20 Mar 23 15:42:40 debfs rpc.statd[741]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from debfs for 172.30.110.20 Upon closer examination, the [lockd] process shows a 'D' state when this is going on. [Bug 458799] [NEW] Karmic: Intermittent: display does not turn on when lid opens
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils (system is current as of 23OCT2009, 00:13 MDT; Release 9.10) This may not be pm-utils. Since recent updates (over the past week?), I've noticed that occasionally, my display will not turn back on when I open the lid. This is not opening from a sleep state. For AC Power, the machine is not set to sleep - I close the lid and may open it again in an hour and the display may not turn on. The machine is responsive (does not hang). I generally get the display to turn back on by pressing the suspend button and then waking it from suspend. Closing and reopening the lid does not help. Pressing FN+crt/lcd does not get the screen to turn on. I'm also not able to switch TTYs. lspci | grep VGA: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) As said, this is intermittent, and I cannot identify a pattern with it. It seems like the longer I leave the lid closed, the more certain this is going to occur. Executing xset dpms force off doesn't cause this (I haven't been able to reproduce it, at least). In /var/log/messages, I just see a few lines like this (which are probably normal): Oct 22 23:38:02 josh-laptop kernel: [79789.169729] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:02 josh-laptop kernel: [79789.334873] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:03 josh-laptop kernel: [79789.755161] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:03 josh-laptop kernel: [79789.921755] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:03 josh-laptop kernel: [79790.314346] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:03 josh-laptop kernel: [79790.480495] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:04 josh-laptop kernel: [79790.870656] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 Oct 22 23:38:04 josh-laptop kernel: [79791.036369] [drm] TV-16: set mode NTSC 480i 0 I know I may be lacking information here. I don't want to speak too soon, but my issues seem to have drastically improved (resolved?). I can't say what did it - a recent update or just coincidence. [Bug 447577] [NEW] [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Since upgrading to Karmic Beta, there's a definite noticeable decrease in graphical performance. I don't know the exact culprit of this, unfortunately. It's noticeable on window (re)drawing mostly, opening an application menu, and other such things. I know glxgears is no benchmark, but when using it, there's certainly a noticeable choppiness there. Overall, it's somewhat subtle, but noticeable enough to be annoying. Since I'm not sure where to start with this, I'm willing to try whatever is needed to find the culprit. I have tested with xserver-xorg-video- intel 2.4 and didn't notice the issues, but I also couldn't enable compiz, for example. I've tested this under a 'test' user without compiz and there was a degradation there as well. I've tried the Mesa packages from X Retro: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-retro, but it didn't seem to impact anything. [Bug 447577] Re: [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance
Actually, bug 416073 may more closely relate, but I'm not sure we're experiencing the same issue or not. -- [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 421232] Re: Sluggish performance on Intel video card
Same here, with a 945GM. There's a few different bug reports here on this, but titled to specific cards. Seems like a wide range of the Intel cards are affected. I certainly hope the issues we're experiencing with performance is worked out through one of these reports. These are a couple other reports that sound related: 416073 440986 -- Sluggish performance on Intel video card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421232 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 416073] Re: [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again
After a little testing, it does seem that the culprit (in my case) is xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.8. I reverted to 2.4 and things were definitely improved, but there were obvious side-effects to reverting. Oddly enough, running glxgears reports a better frame rate under 2.8, but is definitely choppy, whereas 2.4 gave a lower frame rate, but was not choppy. I'm just going by the overall feel of things, so I apologize for the lack of concrete data on this. I'm more than willing to provide more information if it'd be beneficial. -- [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 416073] Re: [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again
Seems like performance here has degraded a bit in the past few days as well. There's been so many updates it's hard to say what the culprit may be ;) (perhaps the kernel bumps).. I don't have the i965, but it sounds related: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I haven't done any official benchmarking, but window redrawing does seem to lack the performance it did a few days ago, and I've noticed a bit more flickering with various other things (noticeably the 'busy' mouse cursor, drawing windows, etc). 2.6.31-12-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 libgl1-mesa-dri: 7.6.0 -- [i965] [karmic][GM965] low intel graphics performance - again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 438335] Re: Boot messages show before xsplash kicks in
I'm experiencing this as well. I'm using Grub 1 (not a fresh install).. After selecting the kernel to boot, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then on to the above messages (fsck [clean] and a few others.. then finally xsplash). It does indeed seem like a regression from the behavior in Jaunty - a completely quiet startup. Is this expected behavior? I'm willing to submit whatever logs are needed if it can help. -- Boot messages show before xsplash kicks in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot
Just wanted to add a me too. After choosing the kernel from the Grub menu, there's a good 10 second delay or so, then the textual boot process appears. I see usplash at what seems to be GDM loading. % lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 2.6.31-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Hopefully THIS is the issue I'm experiencing anyway ;) -- i915: black screen on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
