Re: [Bug 769229] Re: There is no way to restart evolution after forced closing

2011-04-30 Thread hielos
I tried to do it, but when I do CTRL + C (following the instructions on that
webpage), gdb gets stuck as well. By the way, the IMAP account is separate from
the Exchange account, and I think that it is the Exchange engine the one which
is failing. I have learnt that I can kill Evolution if I kill
evolution-exchange-storage (I think that's the name). If I restart without
killing evolution-data-server, then the window does not show up. However, if I
kill the three of them (evolution, evolution-exchange-storage and
evolution-data-server), then I can restart Evolution, but it will continue to
hang at some point.
I really don't know how to reproduce the problem. I just try to open an e-mail
from the IMAP account, then go back to the Exchange account and return to the
IMAP, and at some point, it hangs. I don't know if it is related or not, but
sometimes, it takes forever to load the e-mails.

[Bug 769229] [NEW] There is no way to restart evolution after forced closing

2011-04-22 Thread hielos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Many times, it hangs up. I am using IMAP and Exchange accounts (not my
choice). When it hangs, I have to force-kill it. Then to open Evolution
again, I have to log-off from my account. I tried to kill it with
killall and even with

kill $(ps ax | grep evolution | grep -v grep | awk '{print $1}')

to try to restart it, but when running the command "evolution" again,
there is no GUI, just a stuck background process.

[Bug 657540] [NEW] initdb missing in /usr/bin

2010-10-09 Thread hielos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql-8.4

I wanted to initiate a new database using
initdb -D /newdir

The prompt would always tell me it could not find the command. After a while (a
day or two; I'm not an expert) I realised that most probably the reason would
be that the initdb was just missing from my /usr/bin folder. I just added a
ln -s /usr/bin/initdb /usr/lib/postgresql/8.4/bin/initdb

This may sound dumb, but I guess it could happen to anyone. I just
wonder why the command wasn't available from the beginning. May be there
is a "for the greater good" explanation. Hopes this helps.

[Bug 464559] Re: ifconfig returns SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 when running commad ifconfig wlan0 up

2010-10-04 Thread hielos
Sorry to bother you again, but this is not solved for me yet. I changed
my location and the wlan does not detect any networks. I wonder why.
Doing

modprobe -r ath5k
rfkill block wifi
rfkill unblock wifi
modprobe ath5k
ifconfig wlan0 up

results in: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

[Bug 464559] Re: ifconfig returns SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 when running commad ifconfig wlan0 up

2010-10-04 Thread hielos
I know this has been closed. I don't think it should, since many people
are affected by this. Today, I found the post with a probable solution.
It seems, indeed that it has to do with the SOFT and HARD locks. The
link to the solution is posted at the end of:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1311886 (the direct link is
http://www.opennet.ru/tips/info/2214.shtml). They provide code to cope
with the problem. It has worked for me (for now). I have been having
this problem since Karmic. I did not read the full posts, thus I don't
know if some other people have been struggling with the nm-applet
disabling the wireless connection. At first, I thought that my
enable/disable physical switch was the problem, but no. Then I thought
it was network-manager: nop. Now, I can run ifconfig wlan0 down &&
ifconfig wlan0 up without loosing my connection. See the links
for an explanation. I am posting this because I really consider that
there are a lot of people looking for a solution. By the way, I also
tried the ath5k path, but it did not fully work. Cheers

Fabio, thank you for answering. However, there have been some
modifications in both pulseaudio and Audacity which have let me record
very well. I lost my USB drive, and I am using a laptop now in which
recording has no issues. We should close this as fixed

[Bug 392304] Re: Friends lists wiped-out when accepting new friend

2010-04-12 Thread hielos
Well, I am sorry to tell you that I cannot (or would like to) reproduce
this problem. In the first place, I would need that someone tried to be
added to my list of friends. Then again, I would not like to have to re-
add everybody else in my list of friends. I was using MSN. I am usually
willing to help as much as I can, but I guess that you understand the
complications that could result from this, right? It was not the first
time it had happened to me. If I ever have to add anyone else to my list
and this happens again, I will get in touch with you again. Is that ok?
