same audio problem here.  only seems to affect firefox, which then cannot be 
restarted until firefox process in futex_wait_queue_me channel is killed. 
everything else works normally, including audio from other apps, as opposed to 
#480497.
firefox 3.5.9, 2.6.31-22-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP, intel 865 w/mobo graphics  
sound.

a reverse audio problem here.  only seems to affect firefox, which then cannot 
be restarted until firefox process in futex_wait_queue_me channel is killed. 
everything else works normally, including audio from other apps.

oops, forgot to include that previewing an mp3 file in file browser will
(sometimes) trigger audio loss  futex_wait_queue_me in firefox.

found that after installing pidgin-extprefs and pidgin-plugin-pack, pidgin will 
not show avaiable icon in panel after launch.  hover displays Pidgin - 
Available, but icon is the one displayed while connecting.  once yah0o is 
unchecked in accounts, available icon is displayed.
removal, reboot  reinstall - no joy.  guess i'm in with everybody else now...
