[Bug 105545] Re: HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty/Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread htoug
As Motin notes you still have to add the airprime module to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

This is with a new install of Hardy after the release with all patches
added to date.

My problem with kernel 2.6.24-15 (reported in

fixed.

The E220 now works perfectly for me in Hardy latest with Daniel Hadlers

It is not a duplicate of bug #105545.

The latest updates to Hardy (or possibly the latest updates to hal-info
with Daniel Hahlers patch) has fixed this.

[Bug 215308] [NEW] HUAWEI E220 can not reconnect after upgrading Hardy to kernel 2.6.24-15

2008-04-10 Thread htoug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.24-15-generic-di

Using kernel 2.6.24-14 (and earlier) I was able to insert my HUAWEI E220
USB modem get a connection, disconnect, remove the modem, and at some
later time reinsert the modem and get a connection without booting.

After upgrading to 2.6.24-15-generic this fails.

The first connection attempt succeeds, but you only get one chance. To
reconnect you need to reboot.

Some differences I have noticed:

-14 has only /dev/ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1
-15 has /deb/ttyUSB2 as well

-14 detects the E220 as a GSM modem:
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503023] option 2-1:1.0: GSM modem

Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503216] usbcore: registered new

-15 detects the E220 as an AirPrime device:

Apr 9 18:19:48 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 74.812334] airprime ttyUSB0:

Choosing kernel -14 at boot time allows me to use the modem.

[Bug 105545] Re: HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty/Hardy

2008-04-10 Thread htoug
The patch from Niall is still required see the attached kern.logs.

I have tried the current hal-info and your patched vesion.
Current (20080317+git20080318-1ubuntu3) still mounts the CD-ROM part and
disconnects, while your package (20080317+git20080318-1ubuntu4~blueyedppa1)
just works.

Note that this is all using the 2.6.24-14-generic kernel (2.6.24-14-generic #1
SMP Thu Apr 3 04:49:29 UTC 2008).
Switching to the latest kernel in Hardy (2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Tue Apr 8
00:33:51 UTC 2008) causes it all to fail miserably - reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215308.

[Bug 197922] Re: firefox epiphany icons too big in 1900 pixel width in Hardy

I agree:
Icon sizes are fixed.
Font sizes are still wierd - some much too large some too small.
I can't see any pattern... (perhaps because I switch resolution between
1920*1200 and 1024*768 whenever I dock and undock).

[Bug 197922] [NEW] firefox epiphany icons too big in 1900 pixel width in Hardy

2008-03-03 Thread htoug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Using a screen width of 1900 pixels I get gigantic icons (approx twice
the height and width) and text size in firefox and epiphany.

Reducing the width to 1600 pixels gives the 'normal' icons and text
size.

This bug appeared with the upgrades to hardy this morning (03-03-2008).

[Bug 189260] Re: Backlight doesn't turn on after resume

2008-02-19 Thread htoug
Switch to a text console and back does switch the backlight on. In gutsy
it happened automatically, for the Thinkpad X61 at least, by using the
fix in
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_display_remaining_black_after_resume:

By setting the following in /etc/default/acpi-support the display
comes back on X61s using Intel chipset:

DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true

This does not work after upgrading to hardy.

[Bug 191756] Re: [hardy] firefox 2.x still needed for webdeveloper toolbar

2008-02-14 Thread htoug
Thank you for your prompt reply.

Firefox 2 is not even available as an option in Synaptics and therefore
not obvious to users.

I feel that using firefox 3 as the default is a good choice, but just
like ff3 was (is) an option in Gutsy, ff2 could (should) be an option in
Hardy - just for the people who need it.

Or am I just being dense?

I find that the only way of testing a new release is to use it in daily
use - otherwise how can you find the bugs/annoyances?

[Bug 105545] HUAWEI E220 only works sometimes in Hardy

2008-02-10 Thread htoug
On my Thinkpad X61s the E220 sometimes goes into a connect/disconnect
cycle on the USB-bus. At other times it just works flawlessly.

I cannot discover what triggers the disconnect behaviour. When the
modem/computer has decided to do it, nothing seems to work - logging out
and in again, rebooting, the start_e220 script above have all been tried
without success.

Any clues as to what I can try next?
