[Bug 508443] Re: Installed Ubuntu 9.10 today but it has crashed twice

2010-02-06 Thread hvw
I have some furhter information which may help.

It would appear that I have a SIS 760 video card which uses shared video
memory.

The system is unusable as after a short time of use I get drawing errors
on the screen and then the system irretrievably crashes.

The person who seems to support the driver for this video card
(http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsispart1.shtml#13) wrote

My advice: Don't buy a machine with a SiS760 unless this machine has
dedicated local video memory.

I have tired lowering the graphics resolution, which helps a tiny bit
but the system still crashes.

[Bug 510271] [NEW] page scrolling in firefox

2010-01-20 Thread hvw
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

When scrolling to view a page in Firefox, the top inch and the bottom
inch of the screen scroll, but the 6-8 inches in the middle do not
scroll at all. As a result new information appears in the bottom and
top inch of the screen but not the middle part. This makes teh page
unreadable. The page up and page down keys work.

[Bug 510271] Re: page scrolling in firefox

2010-01-20 Thread hvw
Sorry, on checking further this bug is also affecting other packages
such as open office. I am using a Microsoft mouse which pugs into a PS2
socket.

My guess is that this bug must be related to the driver that controls
the mouse, as it seems to happen across different software packages.

[Bug 296310] Re: Sound buzzing (crackling) for sound Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family)

2008-12-18 Thread hvw
When i change PCM level to zero (neither Master, Headphone) it affects
sound level, so it cannot affect sound crackling phenomena.

Front channel affects only internal speakers, so it cannot affect
crackling.

Surround, Center, LFE channel doesn’t seem to affect volume level
neither internal nor external speakers. May be there should be a
solution.

But it seems that the problem affect linux kernel or wake up processes
because after hibernate sound starts to crackle.

[Bug 296310] Re: Sound buzzing (crackling) for sound Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family)

2008-12-07 Thread hvw
After using gtk-recordMyDesktop playing with rhytmbox music began to crackle.
So with this tutorial:
http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/Feisty/HOWTO:_PulseAudio

I've changed my /etc/pulse/daemon.conf (see attachement) uncommenting some
lines like this :
daemonize = 1
high-priority = 1
log-target = stderr
resample-method = trivial
no-cpu-limit = 1
system-instance = 1
disable-shm = 1
; default-sample-rate = 48000

And now it stops crackling after record with gtk-recordMyDesktop. May be
it could help someone...

[Bug 296310] Re: Sound buzzing (crackling) with HDA-Intel Sound card.

2008-11-22 Thread hvw
The possible solution is to replace the following 3 lines in
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf:
; default-sample-format = s16le
; default-sample-rate = 44100
; default-sample-channels = 2

With:
default-sample-format = s16le
default-sample-rate = 48000
default-sample-channels = 2

Either, it works for me yet. And after several reboots too.

[Bug 255554] Re: mixer_applet2 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_datalist_id_set_data_full()

2008-08-19 Thread hvw
Also the same on Intrepid x86_64 (#1 SMP Fri Aug 15 13:54:22 UTC 2008 version).
When Gnome desktop was loading i switched to tty2 and back. So may be that's
why sound applet tell me that there is no sound devices. I try to remove applet
to re-add new one, but it crushes when closing with this error message. Also it
has after:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
procedure.

[Bug 225958] Re: Update quirks for -intel

2008-06-29 Thread hvw
When i use version 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4 sometimes, parts of screen freeze,
doesn't refresh. Only command like this helps xrandr --size 1024x768.
Display device is (as lspci tells):

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

I don't know whether i install package contains linux-backports-modules and
linux-ubuntu-modules header files or so (downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4 to 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12), but it doesn't freezes now. Same
result was when i changed kernel image from 2.6.24-19-generic to
2.6.24-19-generic (with all backports and restricted modules installed, it
doesn't necessary for intel, is it; can it be barrier?).
It's closest bug report, as i see, so i post there.
