[Bug 783019] Re: Segmentation fault

2012-02-11 Thread ibidem
I installed libsword8 1.6.1, and Xiphos worked.

I suspect that Xiphos will run, if recompiled for SWORD 1.6.2.

[Bug 917402] Re: Atheros wireless doesn't work in Ubuntu 12.04 alpha 1

2012-01-20 Thread ibidem
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 917399 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917399

First, attaching the old /etc/network/interfaces might help clarify
things

Did you configure the network before installation?
I'd be curious about the initial network state (ifconfig >log.txt; iwconfig
>>log.txt 2>&1)--does d-i configure /etc/network/interfaces based on the the
devices that are up, or the current network connection?

Possible preinstall configurations that might make a difference:
1. Default (whatever that is) -already tested?
2. All devices up, but unconfigured (in a shell run ifconfig eth0 up; ifconfig
wlan0 up)
3. All devices down
4. Internet connection established (ideally, 1 test each with wlan0 & eth0)

Finally, two symptoms of a conflict ->one bug, possibly affecting
multiple packages.

The topic should probably be "Networking doesn't work after alternate
install in Ubuntu 12.04 amd64"

[Bug 935574] Re: ABI incompatability in libsword8 (xiphos segfaults)

2012-03-27 Thread ibidem
As a temporary workaround, I have libsword 1.6.1 in my foreports ppa
(ppa:ibid-ag/oldgtk1)
Note that that PPA is used for a number of packages that are older than
"current" or have been dropped from Ubuntu;
you may want to pin libsword, but probably not the PPA.

@roland: It isn't architecture specific, AFAIK. The problem is that the
API and ABI have changed, but it's still libsword.so.8

[Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default

2012-03-16 Thread ibidem
On my Aspire One, hibernate works as soon as I add ath_pci & co. to
PM_MODULES (IIRC). Suspend, however, is quite broken.

Of course, I'm using pm-hibernate instead of gnome/policykit; and I have
to use a local dkms package of the (unmaintained) madwifi-hal 0.10.5.6
branch because every other wireless driver does not work (1 option out
of four drivers...)

And I haven't bothered testing either hibernate or suspend, especially
with Ubuntu, on my new laptop, a Thinkpad X100e. Judging by this, I
won't--because I don't care for a distro like this.

whether the packager for "upstream" kernels made the same mistake.

[Bug 974063] Re: While surfing the net using Fire Fox 11 Ubuntu 11.10 randomly freezes

2012-04-11 Thread ibidem
Also affects Firefox 11 on Lucid (10.04.3 LTS).
Appears to be a regression (Firefox 3.6 and 10 did not have this bug); I
noticed it as soon as I updated to Firefox 11.

Symptoms:
Frequent random freezes
-may occur when there is no CPU or network load, not even outbound
-completely unresponsive - can't switch tabs, enter anything;
window will not be refreshed on resize/move
-may occur at any time, including when no activity occurs
-rest of system perfectly responsive (can switch workspaces, windows)
There appears to be no pattern whatsoever to when it happens.

Typing into a text area does not show results immediately, but as soon as the
freeze ends, everything gets inserted. For example, I open new tab (blank, per
my settings).
Click URL bar, start typing:
slashdot.org
(Everything after the s is typed during the freeze)
As soon as it thaws, slashdot starts loading.

[Bug 603599] Re: Please build the vmwgfx driver

2012-02-08 Thread ibidem
Looking at http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/i386/libgl1-mesa-dri/filelist ,
it seems that this has been fixed in Precise.
This would be "fix committed"

[Bug 783019] Re: Segmentation fault

2012-02-18 Thread ibidem
Paul: Did you recompile it yourself?
sudo apt-get build-dep xiphos
apt-get source --compile xiphos
If not, the Precise version was compiled against libsword8_1.6.1, and then
libsword8 was upgraded to 1.6.2; there appears to be a small binary
incompatability..
This may be a separate bug that we're having.

[Bug 935574] [NEW] ABI incompatability in libsword8 (xiphos segfaults)

2012-02-18 Thread ibidem

[Bug 935574] Re: ABI incompatability in libsword8 (xiphos segfaults)

2012-02-18 Thread ibidem
This is with Precise 12.04.
I thought that it was bug #783019, but it can't be since the incompatability
was introduced in Precise not Natty.
Xiphos works in Oneiric.

So: please do not mark as duplicate.

[Bug 935574] Re: ABI incompatability in libsword8 (xiphos segfaults)

2012-02-19 Thread ibidem
I haven't figured out the tools, but there are abi-compliance-checker,
abicheck, and icheck.

It looks like the abi is mostly the same (xsword compiled against 1.6.1 still
works), but there's one change that broke xiphos and apparently bibletime (from
what I hear)--so I suspect that recompiling reverse dependencies would be the
proper approach.
This should probably get upstream testing and be forwarded there, but I'm not
sure I'll have an opportunity soon.

[Bug 852371] [NEW] Please change depends: jsmath to recommends:jsmath

2011-09-16 Thread ibidem
Public bug reported:

jsmath-fonts currently depends on jsmath.
jsmath is a package intended strictly for servers which will provide jsmath
support.
However, jsmath-fonts is very handy for installing on computers which will
access jsmath-based sites, as jsmath generates bitmap fonts in the absence of
these fonts.

For these reasons, please change
Depends: jsmath to
Recommends: jsmath

It may also make sense to add
Enhances: firefox, rekonq, konqueror, seamonkey-browser
since it enhances the performance of Javascript-capable browsers when viewing
jsmath sites.

Reporting from system:

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release:10.04

  Candidate: 1.3-2
  Version table:
 *** 1.3-2 0

It looks like this affects current versions as well, according to

[Bug 719764] Re: Tables in RTF rendered badly-all colors set to black

2011-05-23 Thread ibidem
I think you misunderstood the issue. It's the appearance in Abiword
(2.8.2/Lucid) that is causing trouble; it's not what the saved file looks like
in other software.
I do not think the bug affects libreoffice in any way, and would suggest
marking it as invalid for libreoffice.

I can disable the /usr/share/fonts line and the passwd line, but if I disable m

[Bug 719764] [NEW] Tables in RTF rendered badly-all colors set to black

2011-02-15 Thread ibidem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: abiword

I frequently "enhance" tables by modifying row color, usually to a light gray.
For portability, I always use RTF, so I can't say if this affects other
formats. When I open the document, the colored rows always show up as solid
black, thus making them completely illegible.
Additionally, in any table, the rows are separated by a full line.
Running Lucid Lynx/Ubuntu 10.04, fully updated
Package: Abiword 2.8.2-2ubuntu1.1
I'll try to attach screenshots of proper rendering (Ted--Softmaker Office also
renders properly) and Abiword.

[Bug 374265] Re: [lucid regression] Acer Aspire ONE, Atheros AR5001 (168c:001c) frequently causes all AP clients to disassociate

2010-03-23 Thread ibidem
Well, now I'm seeing the dropping connection issue (not causing all clients to
drop, though)
IMHO, this is a separate issue.
I can't file a bug report just now, since I'm still at kernel 2.6.32-12.
Gavin, Armiductor:
Try running "iwconfig" when the connection drops, and look at the essid--for
me, it's always corrupted at that point.
Using iwconfig generally fixes it, with a bit of work.

[Bug 538843] [NEW] web page laid out from edge of window

2010-03-14 Thread ibidem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fennec

I installed fennec (1.0~a2-0ubuntu1) on a netbook with 1024x600 resolution
(running Lucid development). When I just load an arbitrary page without
resizing the window, it works fine. But if I expand the window horizontally,
eventually it shows the "Tabs" sidepanel.
At this point, the sidepanel covers the left hand side of the web page, rather
than the webpage moving to the right of the "Tabs" panel. Thereafter, all web
pages are messed up, even if the window is resized.
In particular, the left-hand side of the page is consistently obscured, as if
rendering started from the left-hand side of the "Tabs" panel.

Steps to duplicate:
1.   Install Fennec on a "high resolution" system (1024 pixels wide or more;
POSSIBLY 800 pixels)
2. Load any web page. It should display properly.
3. Expand the Fennec window horizontally until the tabs panel appears.
Expected result: Page moves to the right of the Tabs pane.
Actual result: Tabs pane displays on top of the left side of the web page.
--(makes navigation very difficult)
4. Reload page--makes no difference
5. Shrink the window horizontally.
Expected result: Display fixes itself
Actual result: Right-hand side of display (far-right page, "controls" panel)
hides; display of page stays same.
6. Reload page.
Expected behavior: (???)
Actual behavior: Visible portion of web page moves to the margin, hiding a
section the width of the Tabs panel
7. Repeat cycle
Expected behavior: (Assumed it should have normalized)
Actual behavior: Repeats the bug, "eating" more of the web page

(This may be an "upstream" bug, I seem to recall seeing it with Fennec on
Windows--Not sure, though)

[Bug 538843] Re: web page laid out from edge of window

2010-03-14 Thread ibidem
Looks like they may have fixed it; however, they're way ahead of Lucid.
So I can't test till it's in the repos (or at least a ppa).
Workaround for now:
Show Tabs sidepanel before maximizing.
That works.

[Bug 522917] [NEW] icewm 1.3.6-1 won't shutdown

2010-02-16 Thread ibidem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: icewm

(Lucid Lynx, 10.04)
IceWM 1.3.6-1 (current) won't let me shut down or reboot from the logout menu
I've set the shutdown and reboot commands, configured sudo to automatically
authenticate, and tried everything else I could find.
preferences contains the following:

#ShutdownCommand=”roxterm sudo halt”
ShutdownCommand="sudo /sbin/halt"

#RebootCommand=”roxterm sudo reboot”
RebootCommand="sudo /sbin/reboot"
ConfirmLogout=0

With ConfirmLogout=1 it is the same.
I saw no terminal with roxterm in there.
It appears that for whatever reason, the shutdown command is not being executed.

[Bug 458100] Re: menu and toolbar did not show up!

2010-01-28 Thread ibidem
Doesn't icewm-session start the task bar? The bar should show up anyway, but
icewm-session might be a work-around. Another work-around might be adding the
lines,
ShowTaskBar = 1
TaskBarAutoHide = 0
TaskBarShowStartMenu = 1
to ~/.icewm/preferences or ~/.icewm/prefoverrides
These are all default, but setting them might work.
I've had no trouble with the taskbar (same icewm on Lucid, current on Lucid, ?
on Jaunty), it might not be the package.

[Bug 499940] Re: [lucid regression] does not resume from hibernation, restarts fresh

2010-01-31 Thread ibidem
The resume=/dev/sda* method works for me; I added it to /etc/default/grub and
ran update-grub to make it permanent.
Essentially it would just be a small tweak in the setup scripts to fix,
specifying one more kernel option.

I do see fsck running ("recovering journal") when I resume, even though resume
is working properly.
It's in the boot messages on tty1.
