[Bug 1431743] Re: fails to boot with broken or missing root fs fstab entry

2015-04-29 Thread ibob63
I agree with ironstorm. This bug clearly needs to be reopened.

I just upgraded my server and it became read only. I can confirm that
the problem for me was that after upgrade the fstab had the wrong UUID
in it. Bizarrely, it was changed from:

UUID=18254707-08e8-494e-b456-938592928a5e / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1

to:

UUID=815063a9-c956-44a6-ab11-05e1d0bb3a58 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1

The server was virtual and luckily I took a backup before upgrading. I
therefore restored the backup, upgraded again and then dropped into the
command prompt and corrected the fstab before rebooting the server.

As Ironstorm suggests, this should be a post install check or perhaps
the bug which is causing this issue can be resolved. I'm sure that this
issue will affect lots of other people and it should be reopened as an
issue.

[Bug 1232530] [NEW] Can't unlock encrypted filesystem on Macbook Pro because keyboard doesn't work on Kernel 3.11

2013-09-28 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

I've upgrade from Ubuntu 13.04 -> 13.10 Final Beta.

I am using a Macbook 5,1. The disk is completely encrypted. To unlock
and boot the system I need to enter a password immediately after Grub.
However, when booting from the 3.11.0 Kernel, the keyboard doesn't
appear to work or the system has hung. Therefore, I can't enter a
password and hence cannot boot the laptop. There is also something odd
on the screen. When you have to enter the password there are two colons
like this : : which should not be there.

Anyhow, the Linux Kernel from the old version is still installed. If I
select the Kernel 3.8 then the keyboard works and I can unlock and boot
the computer.

[Bug 187888] [NEW] thunderbird styling strange when launched at login

2008-01-31 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Hi,

I wanted to make thunderbird start at login. So I added the command
"thunderbird" to the system -> preferences -> sessions. However when it
launched the font is very widely spaced apart and not large enough. So I
have to close the program and relaunch it. I have also tried getting
Firefox to launch at login and it suffers the same problem. I don't
know the technical details but Is it to do with the gnome settings not
being set before start up?

Let me know if you need any more information,

Thanks,

James

[Bug 177114] Openoffice Writer toolbar don't stay in on screen

2007-12-18 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hi,

The toolbars on openoffice are behaving erratically and do not appear to
remember any settings. Example: if you change from drawing something.
such as a box, then decide to type something - the toolbar for the
formating disappear and reappear. This causes the whole screen to toggle
backwards and forwards, which makes it very hard to read or actually use
the tools. I am sure this could be classified as a feature - but really
it is a bug.

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 / openoffice 2.3 on AMD64.

Just to clarify - the toolbars do not remember their position.

Example: if you put the formatting bar on the right hand side of the
screen and then using the drawing tools - the formatting toolbar
magically moves back to the top of the screen.

[Bug 145738] connect to server - requires GDM restart to see new connection

2007-09-27 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Hi,

In gnome, when connecting to a Windows Share or SSH server you create
the connection using the Places -> Connect . You then fill out the form
and then two things should happen:

 1) A icon is created on the desktop of the share

 2) A link is created under the Places menu

However, intermittently the icons don't appear and you have to restart
the GDM using CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. Once the GDM is restarted the icons
appears. This is frustrating and might cause problems for new users. I
don't know how this could be technically resolved, but I suggest
refreshing the menu or desktop.

[Bug 114711] Printers Freeze

2007-05-14 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

HI,

I have Fiesty installed and am using two network printers ( Kyrocera
1920N + Kyrocera 1030N ). Sometimes, without reason the printing
processing freezes. The printer dyalogue box appears but sometimes the
printers aren't shown or the print button is greyed out. Or all of this
is fine and the printing just never comes through. It isn't a network
problem ( as everyone else can print). Anyhow, I restart the computer
and the prints come out.

Let me know if you need more information,
Thanks,

James

[Bug 47134] Re: log text copy fails while filter engages

2007-04-22 Thread ibob63
Hi,

I have just upgrade to Fiesty and this bug is still happening. It seems to me
that it would be helpful to fix this as it directly affects fixing bugs on
other programs.
Let me know if there is any more information that I can provide or help I can
give ( short of programming :) )

Thanks,

james

[Bug 108834] art manager closes unexpectedly

2007-04-22 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-art

Hi,

The Gnome Art Manager closes unexpectedly when you click the download
button. I have tried this for both backgrounds and themes. Also the
software doesn't seem to install the theme when I click install etc.

About my setup: I recently upgrade from edgy to fiesty without a fresh
install. Everything else on the system is working very well and I
discovered this while having an explore of the new features.

Let me know if you need any more information or help,
Thanks,

James

[Bug 87818] Re: Installation Stalling at Restricted Drivers stage

2007-02-26 Thread ibob63
Yep, it seems like an intermittent fault.I rebooted a few more time and
it only appears to happen a 1/4 of the time. Is there anything I can do
to help you work out what might be wrong?

[Bug 87818] Installation Stalling at Restricted Drivers stage

2007-02-25 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Just installing Feisty fawn Herd 4. While booting the live CD the
loading stalls at "Loading Restricted Drivers". It left it quite a while
and nothing happened, so I restarted the computer and then everything
seemed to be fine. So it appears to be an intermittent problem.

Let me know if you need any more information,
Yours,

James

[Bug 82550] gnome-ppp isn't on basic installation

2007-01-31 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-ppp

Hi,

When doing an installation from the live cd the gnome-ppp package isn't
installed as standard. This is rather annoying for new users who are
using dial up and don't have broadband. From personally experience this
is around 10-15% of all UK users. So, I don't think it can be assumed
that the user will have broadband or know how to configure the dialer
using the command line.

Could this be included in an new releases please?

Thanks,

James

[Bug 82385] live cd - fails to install when memory low

2007-01-30 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-live

Hi,

On old computers, the live cd installation can fail due to insufficient
memory (i.e. less than 500mb). This information isn't provided to user,
who are often confronted with an installation which stalls/freezes/takes
a very very long time for no apparent reason. Frequently people check
the cd for errors, change their cd roms etc... before they can't work
out what is happening.

Ubuntu live should check the amount of available memory before
attempting installation and provide a warning or use the swap file if
the memory is too low. Fedora Core and others do this before
installation

Thanks,

James

[Bug 77217] gnome menu refresh slow

2007-01-03 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-menus

Hi,

This might be not be in the right place...

The gnome-menus ( i.e. Application, Places and Systems) get updated with
a link to the new software, after I have installed some software using
the package manager. The link is created okay but the menus take time
to return adjust to the new item. Before adjusting correctly, they
always have a scroll button at the top and bottom. Once I have opened
each sub menu at least once then they go back to normal.

I am using edgy, on an AMD64 laptop. The only weird thing that I have
done is rearrange the menu bar so that it is at the bottom of the screen
like KDE / Windows and this could be the cause of the problem.

Let me know if you need anymore information,

Thanks,

James

[Bug 77373] Small warning on loading xara

2007-01-03 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xaralx

Hi,

Installed Xara Xtreme from synaptic. It appears to be working okay
however when it loads it gives the warning:

"Mailcap file /etc/mailcap, line 89: incomplete entry ignored."

This is probably not very important but all the same, just thought I would let
you know,
Cheerio,

[Bug 76453] firefox freezes with complex javascript (edgy)

2006-12-19 Thread ibob63
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Hi,

I am using Edgy on a AMD 64 bit. I have installed both Firefox32 bit
and also Firefox 64 using the synaptic.

Firefox 2 freezes when I am viewing websites with lots of javascipt
menus such as http://www.royalcanin.com/accueil/gb_sommaire.asp ( which
has a javascript menu on the right hand side). It freezes you can't open
a new window or tab, you can't reload the page, you can move to another
page - but you can resize the window and access the menu bar and
buttons.

If you would like more information let me know,

James

p.s. This might be related to the currently unfixed but with Java that
cause Eclipse to crash before loading.
